Congratulations to Mark Daly and the BBC production team behind The Men who sold the Jerseys, who received the award from the Royal Television Society for Best regions current affairs and news event for their documentary into the goings-on in the years before Rangers descended into liquidation. They won against Grananda’s Hillsborough – The Truth At Last, which centred on a hugely important human and political story, which illustrates the standard of achievement.
Television journalist of the year
Congratulations also to Alex Thomson, of Chanel 4 News, “one of the UK’s leading correspondents. With a portfolio of coverage from Syria to door stepping Kelvin Mackenzie over Hillsborough, to Glasgow Rangers, he displays great range and versatility with a knack for finding strong angles and compelling stories. He brings real authority and storytelling skills to whatever he covers.”
Thomson is a game changer. Never has a UK journalist had so many people wanting him to stop asking questions, including many in his own industry. Fortunately he appears to be some kind of Geordie-hostility-feeder.
Good journalism is important. Well done to the winners and those in their support teams.

Always intrigued by the independence debate,
personally ive not decided one way or tother,
ill probably cast my vote when i work out whether its better to be treated as a second class citizen in a united kingdom or an independent scotland.

Latest polls suggest Labour will win the next General election with a majority of 112 seats.

Challs agreeing ‘deals’ with Rapid, hertz etc….LSN decision imminent….coincidence or what.
Re the election debate…..
If we dont vote for independence, we can’t get rid of Westminster rule
If we do vote for independence we can get rid of the SNP
Politics is easy innit…..

The nats do seem to attract a disproportionate number of simple minded supporters for whom politics is easy.
Ernie Lynch – if you don’t understand the difference between wave power and tidal power then best you don’t comment. Bully tactics don’t work either.
Otherwise lots of good points being made from all angles. Debate is healthy. Could not agree more with Bamboo – this is our chance to create change and influence it ourselves. Put all the fears to one side and grab the chance.
One final point – the technology for hydro power and wind power is here now. Wave and tidal will come (or not). Loved the comment from Estadio – I wish we could harness some of the bullshit from Ernie and his pal – boy would be rich !
When Der hun does anything that seems remotely above board ,BEWARE of their real reasons.

Why do you think you would?

‘Ernie Lynch – if you don’t understand the difference between wave power and tidal power then best you don’t comment.’
A nat referred to wave power.
I suggested he probably meant tidal power.
He agreed that’s what he had meant.
I understand the difference.
That’s why I was able to make the point I did.
Wind power.
During the bitterly cold weather earlier in the year wind power was providing 0.1% of the UK’s electricity.
0.1%.
And for that Scotland’s landscape is being ruined for a generation.
ernie lynch
Let us see how the Labour Party does in Eastleigh next week before making any predictions as to 2015, a result which could in fact be influenced by the 2014 Scottish referendum. The fact is Labour has a long road back, opinion polls or not. The Labour Party lost five million votes between 1997 and 2010, and their performance under Gordon Brown was one of the worst in the Party’s history. Still, you never know maybe the polis will flock to vote for the er Mansion Tax.

The SNP seats up there used to be Tory seats.

the recent history of the current scottish govt (and in particular senior members of that govt) in relation to sectarianism does not fill me with comfort,
are you assured the SNP (or whatever party was elected) would make any difference?

Apologies :)
Im away to find papers and websites that we all dont read and who we all dont like to see what they are saying, see if I can get upset and get a wee protest on the go.
Might google ‘disgraced former editor of daily record sport’ see what he is upto as he is so interesting, would be really interesting to follow his career and see what all the attention is about…
If that fails I might develop an interest in a daft wee division 3 club, try and fit in…

Ernie,
I think the SNP took a few Labour seats as well. Is that not why you dislike them so much?
Why do you insist so much in preserving the Union?
To continually feed the corruption and total incompetence in the South East is totally beyond me.
Ernie, well, the Shetlands were always and still are liberal, Caithness and Sutherland were labour, and are now libdem, Ross and Cromarty was Tory but has been lib dem since 1983, the western isles were labour – now SNP.
I think you’re generalising a bit too much.

Ernie is stuck in a 1955 timewarp.
The Lyon crowd as noisy as they were all those years ago when I was there to watch the bhoys.
It sounds as though they may now have a broader repertoire than the persistent ‘Lyonnais, Lyonnais, Lyonnnais’ encountered back then.
My lasting memory is looking up at the top tier above me and seeing a giant Che banner from the fhans; magic!

Ernie,
For the record the SNP energy policy is the one that puts me off them the most. I agree with you about the wind power having read reports on production levels…along with the heavy subsidies.
Tidal and nuclear way to go for me. (State of the art new facility beside Dounreay for me and tide incorporating replacement breakwaters for the disintegrating Victorian ones down the East coast from Wick to Berwick.)
Just checking Shortie are telling Mark’s story…………………..another story caught my eye.
…………..what is it with huns and ‘debt’?
Can’t help themselves.
Guid.
Breakwaters incorporating tidal turbines I mean……bit of research and developement required.
Good evening everybody.
Paul 67, have you heard any more news about the proposal for a new Russia/Ukraine league? I have not heard it being discussed in Russia but then again I don’t watch too much TV. It is a fascinating idea. What do people in Ukraine think about this idea?
Thanks to Bournesoup for your last post to me.
Goodnight.

By ‘up there’ I was referring to the areas that the nat poster said were in favour of ‘independence’.
The majority of SNP seats ‘up there’ were formerly Tory.
Just don’t ask me to try and put a cigarette paper between Miliband’s Labour and Cameron’s Tory.
Ranger claim they haver cleared all football debt. Actually they have left Hearts £100,000 light and rapid £200,000 odd. They still continue to compound the fact that they are cheats. Claim to be bale to pay and then never live up to the promise. Who will ever do business with these charlatans.

I agree but what do you do in the meantime while this is developed?
Scotland has around 100-120 years worth of gas underground. £5b in old money….
ernie you and those like you seem to be very good at telling us whats wrong with the idea of independence, however i never seem to hear what you actually guarentee by being part of the union.
can you furnish me with any saliant points (preferably positive ones) about what scotland will gain from remaining part of the union. even some nice wee baubles like the snp have done, such as free prescriptions free bus travel nationwide (for pensioners), no fees for university students.etc
finally why not ask yourself if as some unionists state scotland is such a drain, why are they so keen to keep us, lets face it the one thing the westminster govt is not know for benevolence.
