The task in Trondheim

111

I’ve been pretty chilled about tonight’s game in Trondheim since last week, but the reality is beginning to dawn.  You and I have watch so many of these occasions go wrong; the Basel game in 2002, in particular, comes to mind.  3-1 up from the home leg, we were 2-0 down within minutes and heading out of the ‘lucrative’ Champions League.  Not that that European season was a disappointment.

On the road, Celtic in Europe is a bit of a lottery.  While this has been true from Zagreb to Gibraltar, there are points in our favour.  Brendan was new in the job against Lincoln Red Imps.  He put men on the field that night who would not get near his team now.  We have scored nine for the loss of one in our three games so far and, by any measure, we are ready for the task in Trondheim.

Get the job done, Celtic.

Usually planning my position behind the couch at this stage before a European away game but would love an early nerve-settling goal.

Would settle for 21 minutes in with Odsonne pulling them all over the place and either James or Calum rattling one in.

I would like to see Gamboa start, and Kouasse as well.

I’d have been there were it not for bad planning – “jetting in” to Crete tomorrow for a week.

Still, the last time I watched us in Norway was Molde, so maybe it’s as well I’m missing it.

  5. mike in Toronto and mahe the madman, hope you both are, well your predictions for tonight.hh.

    Tictaewin,

    Roberts was overrated.

I’ve never been Forrest’s biggest fan but he scores a lot of important goals – especially in Europe.

Celtic win 2 zip. Forest and Oddonne

  8. !!Bada Bing!! on

Roberts was brilliant for us first time round, was unlucky with injuries last year, still a young Bhoy, would take him in a heartbeat.

  9. Shut thum up early, don’t encourage thum…………..

knock thum oot at every opportunity.

BP … my predictions during the world cup were brilliant and rubbish in equal measure … I kept getting the score right … but for the wrong team.

In light of that, and since I exepct Celtic to win comfortably tonight, I am not going to make a prediction.

    Sftb,,,

“James Forrest (who can be prone occasionally to be intemperate in judgement) and your own more measured but still over-interpretative reading of Brendan’s words.”

The bhoy over eggs the pudding that much he must own a few chickens. Is a good Tim though and does have talent I would admit no problem.

On BRs words,,,I do read between lines. It seems yourself and others take words literally. Not to say Im right and youre wrong though. This seems to be one of the big differences in our “ clashes “.

“ The £9m for Odsonne bit was written by the journo and not a part of Brendan’s quotes – so how WE should stop that is beyond me. I agree that it is only likely to reach that level when we pay off PSG when we sell Odsonne at a profit.”x

I would like to blog to stop saying we spent 9 . Its 9 with all the addons I believe as you do also.

    “ Brendan’s recent statement clarifies matters “

Its the usual jargon and while he admits people are working on signings he does not say “ IM HAPPY “ which would have clarified matters. All it clarifies are that there is work going on for players.

“ There were stronger clues as to what he meant that should have called people up short before they pounced on – “Oh Aye! That must be directed at PL and the Board”

Now youre hinting at reading the clues or finding meanings when I thought you were urging us not to do that or at least telling us the meaning you find could well be wrong. Do we look for meaning ,,, or read the words ?

“ Did he just slip up or was he miffed?” Neither

    You dont know that.

“ He will not always manage to say exactly the right words “

Very true and that has been shown this last week. And not to be pernickety but there are some things he said in his latest I myself am not to sure about.

“ No matter what my feeling is I have to respect where the club is at “ I could pick that apart.

“ I have no choice” If I was a first team player I could be thinking well thanks for the endorsement,,not.

Anyway,,we live and learn and if it doesnt kill you it makes you stronger. Lets grab another topic later in the week partner, pretty busy over here . Good sparring with you.

Enjoy the game and Hail Hail.

  14. A draw will be enough but I think Celts have to score at least one and the talent is there to do it. Celtic have scored nine so far so the omens are good just hold the nerve.

  15. Expecting a tighter game but Celts to run out clear winners in the smaller stadium and pitchin this away leg.

Shaky start made Rosenborg look better for twenty minutes at Celtic Park but BR fast attacking system impressed the Celtic supporters, and despite the woodwork hitting chances we were by far the better side, over the piece.

Anything can happen with Celtic in Europe but we tend to beat sides in the qualifiers as the new normal , as BR goes for the first treble of the year by making it to the CL proper for the third time in three seasons.

3-1 isn’t the best and because we scored three going on 6 at home, it doesn’t mean this game will follow the same pattern as Rosenborg will turn into a different proposition. They have to attack and can’t rely on breakaway goals, whereas we can.

    Score forecast

    Rosenborg 1 Celtic 2

  16. Paddy Roberts,as good a player he is,I think his style of play would have been found out,at the end ,I know he carried an injury, but he got found out a few time’s, anyway he stated he wanted to go back to the premier league, Celtic won’t sign him,if I was Brendan I would try and coach Gamboa, into a winger, one thing he has is pace.

  17. Job done, well done Celtic.

Hard task in the next round, still trusting in Brendan and the Bhoys.
