There will be goals

733

Dundee have played 12 games since losing 6-0 at Celtic Park in September, scoring in all but one of those occasions. Only Celtic and Aberdeen have kept them out in 21 games this season. They lost five last time out to Ross County (scoring twice), but scored four against Accies the week before. Season tickets at Dens are excellent value for money. There will be goals when Celtic visit tomorrow.

Kane Hemmings scored five of their six goals against County and Accies. He’s a direct player who makes runs from deep into space but a large portion of his goals come as a consequence of defensive errors. In short, he appears to run at defenders in anticipation of them making a mistake, not a wholly unproductive strategy for strikers playing against Celtic this season.

Ronny Deila will be keen Celtic build on the positives from Tynecastle, although the on-going absence of Leigh Griffiths will be a concern. I reckon we would have seen Carlton Cole at some point against Hearts if it were not for the plethora of injuries which restricted the manager’s options. Hearts had done their homework on Nadir Ciftci, who was well marshalled throughout. He can expect a similar night tomorrow.

Partick Thistle’s role in the title race will come into focus over the next week. They are on an excellent run ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Pittodrie at Saturday’s game at Celtic Park, having won their last four league games. You can win two Premium Seat tickets in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s game, courtesy of Magners, if you answer this question:

Who was the last Partick Thistle manager to win four consecutive top flight games?

Email your answer in the SUBJECT line to celticquicknews@gmail.com before 17:00 tomorrow (30th). My Partick Thistle knowledge is limited, so editors decision if final……

And if you are so minded, having read what you’ve done already for Mary’s Meals in 2015, you can donate a £1 or so towards them here. Many thanks…………

Come up with an infallible way of identifying future stars and you have cracked it.

The scouts won’t go out with a brief to sign duds but given the number of young guys who fail to make the grade as a professional and the number of them that then fail to meet the grade at CELTIC (but carve out careers elsewhere) then we are looking for diamonds in the dust.

So too are the majority of clubs globally who cannot sign seasoned professionals or young guys who are really good but don’t stay long enough to provide stability over three seasons.

It’s damned if you do and damned if you don’t. That is get stuck with the guys you named or lose a Wanyama or VVD or Foster after 3 years if not sooner.

That causes churn and instability which is why I think the policy has changed to signing Scots in Christie, Allan, GMS and Armstrong.

In spite of current form I think they will turn into good honest signings as they mature, a bit like Scott Brown did after a couple of bad seasons.

Now no guarantees but if that happens you would not swap the stability of four Scott Brown type signings ie good seasoned professional in a couple of years for a VVD only interested in a bigger wage in England.

I don’t know what performance measures CELTIC have in place on scouting and how they review signing performance over a period to see why they got some right and some wrong but I hope they do. If not the criticism is valid. If they do review then is a the review process one that leads to a reduction in the failures?

How good the review process is can only be measured over time but it would certainly be an area worth keeping under constant review itself.

  2. Some folk on here tonite getting uptight about the sectarian stuff being pumped out at the game in govan…..the likes of myself would never dream of watching them play anyone else other than Celtic…..what do xpect from them its grained into them not the 5% who participate more liker 90%……in a few months time the drums and flutes will start to appear on our streets….if we are allowed to do it on the streets then we can do it at the football “its our stadium” we are untouchable…..if that’s Hibernian just whats it going to be like when they get the Celtic…..or as they would say that other shower of fenian b”s……..

I have already stated I think our squad is too big ?

In the 18 months under Ronny I have read we have signed somewhere between 13 – 16 players depending on who you believe

Haven’t check our spend on these, and no idea to the salaries we are spending on them

How many are 1st team regulars ?

We should have spent this money on max 6 players who would be 1st team players ? Using the money we do spend on guaranteeing a better quality player, who would be a first team player

And even at this we would get a couple of mistakes probably

In my view managing our budget more effectively

I also think this would keep the fans more engaged in the team ?

Hail Hail and will catch up the morra, so Nytol

  4. Auldheid

Agree with a lot of what you say, and again the but, how the ef can a supposed scout reckon that the likes of Bangura, Balde, Lassad, Puki, Cifcti, Cole, etc etc are actually strikers ?

Take into account the way the game is played in sectarianland and it makes it even worse to think JP has actually recommended these guys, he is a joke, he is costing the club money that we can ill afford.

VvD and VW are the only two that I can recall that have made the difference, the others we have made a few bob on were not on his recommendation.

He needs to be the first one out the door and a proper DoF brought in.

    HH

  5. Auldheid my god you are grasping for excuses.

Every club faces the same challenges.

How come Celtic are so crap at it?

Walking out your door in the morning, running a newsagent, running a multinational is all about risk management.

    No risk equals no reward.

Celtic take no risk so get no reward.

Worse than that Celtic adopted a doomed an proven failure Moneyball strategy (Paul espousing it on these pages) .

It was a disaster then and remains one.

And why on earth do we employ a CEO for around 800k a year who basically has no strategic ideas and tells us it’s all too hard.

I accuse ypu of toadying ti the board. That you have been seduced by being close to the board.

They have no discerable strategy apart to wait for the return of racism. They have failed to tackle corruption, attack the Celtic support at every given opportunity, are simply clueless when asked for strategy and have presided over a disasterous downturn in our fortunes.

    What the hells to like?

But you keep coming up with excuses with absolutely no rationale for those excuses.

    Why?

  6. One more comment before I ghaving seen How unfit and slow Carlton Cole looks currently

I cannot get my head around the reasoning for that signing, when we did it ?

Maybe if he had been fit ?

  8. Carlton Cole has a fair bit of weight to offload long before he will ever be fit, and he will never be a RD kinda player, never in a month of sundays, he is another JP disaster that will cost the club a couple of million £ over the deal, a joke.

  9. I know this place is dead these days but thought I’d post a TV recommendation.

Documentary by Netflix (available to download as well if you know how).

“Making a Murderer” 10 x 1hr episodes, I’d suggest starting to watch early in the day as it’s a very addictive viewing (was still up at 6 this morning watching and had to be up for work :o)

Very scary and crazy world we live in (especially America), humans aren’t that great.

Time on site does not convey rights to abuse people with a differing opinion. Paul67 can correct me if I’m wrong. I have a rule of thumb: don’t say anything to anyone on here, that you wouldn’t say to a strager to their face in a pub. Your ‘hun’ comment would be likely to get your nose broken and your teeth rearranged should you try that in a pub where I come from. But never mind: you obviously are a big tough guy that goes around saying mince like that to folk you don’t know. Or do you?

Either you do that in the pub or you are a wee internet keyboard wannabee.

Whit a laugh! I suggest you sit down and hiv a hawf bottle of Ardbeg 10.

If ye can take it of course.

seen that too – full steam ahead in the celtic bashing (on here as well) and the bigging up of the old firm games as per talk radio tuesday

  18. Am I the only one who is sick of hearing the same pash in december as we have had for a few years??

Yes we do not look great in December. BUT – We, generally, start our campaign 2 weeks before the rest of the league and maybe play an extra 12-16 games in europe (which are hyper stressful for the players and We eventually get papped out of europe!!

Its not until jan/feb or feb/mar we start to put a run of games together and stretch away in the league. When co-incidentally we start to play a similar amount of games to our competitors!!

We have had a few bad results but i bet the players are fuckeroonied! (as evidenced by the amount of silly injuries we are carrying as a squad – a great many of the just happening in the last 2 weeks!!)

Too many games, with too much pressure. In too short a time.

Relax am sure we have been here before.

More to the point am sure the stattos at Parkhead know this and expect a slump in form about now. As we have done it for years?

Ronny is not being tested just now, he will be tested over the next 8 weeks.

Because of this he is gona be in charge until the end of the season but he will be judged on the next 8 weeks. Pull ahead in the league and keep yer job RD

  19. clunks – have you lost the plot ?

all celtic teams pre-ronnie have played great flowing winning football thru the months of nov-dec

from macari and brady all the way thru to nfl’s teams

and they’ve all had the treble wrapped up by dec too

  20. spike

    I stand corrected!

Sure a few teams have had a scoddish cup whipped oot from under the huns feet by this time too.

Glad we ain hearing 2 phrases relentlessly from our media

    RONNY………………AND HIS SYSTEM

    RONNY…………………..AND HIS EUROPEAN RECORD.

Hearing this shit in every MSM outlet, Its starting to bleed thru to us supporters and we are starting to believe it.

  21. spike,

I get what the CQN mag was about, years after i worked on it i get what it was about.

We need to be creating our own media, because until we have TV stations, radio stations, newspapers, magazines we will always be under represented in media terms. The mere stats of hun to good ghuy ratio will determine we will get hammered in the national press, radio, tv etc

I wish the CQN magazine had taken of because I now see why it needed to work and be read

  22. A CQN radio station, TV station or podcast is now a must to take forward the CQN brand in the future.

You ghuys have taken the blog, books and magazines just about as far as they can go.

Take it a wee step further forward and let the spoken and not the written word take you forward!

  23. Just watching reply of the Huns hubs game

All the articles in the world on here won’t tell me otherwise , the Huns are coming back. And they are gonna have bigger crowds than us.

This past 3/4 seasons have been a huge chance wasted , I don’t think we would have any trouble beating that huns team at the minute but with the rate we are downsizing it won’t be long.

Can’t believe we are replying on cole and cifcti.

Any chance of an article on our downsizing ? Our board with no balls.. ? Who signs the players ?

This blog has downsized worse than our squad.

But sure as long as the adds are working , the books are selling and Lawell isn’t being questioned. All is perfect.

  24. CultsBhoy can not relate to Celtic Board ambitions on or off the park on

I hope we win handsomely tomorrow ( tonight actually)

Usually my over riding feeling is pleasure mixed with pride. That will be replaced with Relief …. That’s what it’s come to.

I’m not even thinking about alternative outcomes.

  25. the huns will have big crowds only as long as they are winning – and only for the big games – its always been the same – check out their attandances for the wee games – do you think that there will be less than 50,000 at the next tic home game v aberdeen ?

  26. SPIKEYSAULDMAN on 30TH DECEMBER 2015 2:03 AM

I hope we don’t but wouldn’t be surprised.

I believe these past 3 seasons have been a waste , and it should have been so much more fun.

We signed 3 players from Dundee United last season , the Huns can do that once they are promoted. Few Aberdeen players maybe or whatever and they won’t be too far off our level after a couple of transfer windows.

We should be in a much better place than we are in.

  27. It is so easy to see things when you know the game is rigged.
