There will be goals

733

Dundee have played 12 games since losing 6-0 at Celtic Park in September, scoring in all but one of those occasions. Only Celtic and Aberdeen have kept them out in 21 games this season. They lost five last time out to Ross County (scoring twice), but scored four against Accies the week before. Season tickets at Dens are excellent value for money. There will be goals when Celtic visit tomorrow.

Kane Hemmings scored five of their six goals against County and Accies. He’s a direct player who makes runs from deep into space but a large portion of his goals come as a consequence of defensive errors. In short, he appears to run at defenders in anticipation of them making a mistake, not a wholly unproductive strategy for strikers playing against Celtic this season.

Ronny Deila will be keen Celtic build on the positives from Tynecastle, although the on-going absence of Leigh Griffiths will be a concern. I reckon we would have seen Carlton Cole at some point against Hearts if it were not for the plethora of injuries which restricted the manager’s options. Hearts had done their homework on Nadir Ciftci, who was well marshalled throughout. He can expect a similar night tomorrow.

Partick Thistle’s role in the title race will come into focus over the next week. They are on an excellent run ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Pittodrie at Saturday’s game at Celtic Park, having won their last four league games. You can win two Premium Seat tickets in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s game, courtesy of Magners, if you answer this question:

Who was the last Partick Thistle manager to win four consecutive top flight games?

Email your answer in the SUBJECT line to celticquicknews@gmail.com before 17:00 tomorrow (30th). My Partick Thistle knowledge is limited, so editors decision if final……

And if you are so minded, having read what you’ve done already for Mary’s Meals in 2015, you can donate a £1 or so towards them here. Many thanks…………

  1. Wait lads…dont be too hasty or rock the boat.

The PLC are keeping their powder dry.

They will say something….er, when eh, ….sometime.

Hatred my arse…like i say, the PLC are quick to condemn a few rockets online for bigotry.

While they totally ignore the reality of the bigotry coming out of the cesspit.

You cant have it both ways.

    Condemn it all….or bend over.

  3. They actually done themselves proud, it was less than five minutes, I said half an hour, it’s a time of hate that has no boundaries I suppose, then again, that’s what they think?

The bend over thing is Hunnish, IMO, bottom line is you hate how the club is being ran, and you have no advice as to how it should be, that’s you lot in a nutshell, all fur coat, and no knickers.

    Selective condemnation deserves contempt.

That the PLC are only prepared to comment when one of them are personally attacked, and say nothing about the violence and bigotry against Celtic supporters in general….imo, is nothing but bs.

Speak out against the bigotry and cheating, or will we just hide like PL and his lackeys.

Do you prefer we kept quiet Tony?

I think it’s economics. You give me a business case that shows return on investment that excludes risk then it’s not a business plan it’s a punt.

But even a realistic business plan that assumes all goes well might make me change my mind but my point was bandying about figures like £80m lost is unrealistic.

When we get a more accurate assessment I we might have a basis for debate.

As it is I think making the EL after Xmas should be achievable and so realistic. I’d rather it was the CL and the risks and costs associated were not so prohibitive, but I think they must be.

Why else not pursue your and my dream?

    Just to annoy us?

  7. Big Pierres 2 front teeth on

We’re not the ones being paid to run the club though are we!?! We can give an opinion though and generally the support are far from happy about how our club is being ran. I don’t care about the politics of the board members, all I know is they are not doing their job and rewarding themselves in the process of not doing it. Get them all tae feck

  8. Most people dont have a problem speaking out against bigotry.

Those who have nothing to say…Id ask, what have they got to hide, and what prevents them speaking out.

Or is that too fecking sensible.

  10. My friends in Celtic,

Although in principal I still believe than we can progress with our current managerial team, it would be very foolish of me ( us ) to say that I do not have reservations.

Can Ronny and his team on the park motivate, entertain and attract a domestic crowd ? Can we hope ( under Ronny ) to increase our ratio of seats occupied to what has been paid for ?

Ultimately the answers to these questions may yet decide Ronny’s fate.

Although I go to Parkhead, I have given up going away. But for entertainment there is no doubt our away games are better.

It would also be stupid for us not to acknowledge a possible Sevco challenge if and when we have to play them. They seem to have a sharp manager and have an illogical sense of injustice. This is currently giving them a momentum to drive them on and attract decent crowds. That position is temporary, the crowds will dwindle and only the hate will be left.

However it may be the case in domestic Scottish football, where the only time ourselves and the huns can fill our grounds is when we play each other.

    Sad but very possibly correct.

    Hail, hail.

Ps : We have never needed a new league ( Challenge ) more.

The difference is your making accusations, I didn’t, I stated a fact, and when the time comes I WILL act on it, trust me, when are you going to do something?

  14. I was a bit fragile yesterday after a great day out in Edinburgh before and after our game at Tynecastle, so decided to tune in for a bit and watch the World Club Championship game between two lower league teams.

I didn’t last too long as I couldn’t stomach the vile and hate filled sectarianism which came from my television.

After a period of reflection I found that sadness balanced my initial anger and disgust. I saw the camera pan in on a section of the RIFC support, the Union Bears. Mostly, young men and boys belting out their desire to be ‘up to our knees in Fenian blood’.

Strangely, much of the emotions I felt weren’t aimed at those dressed in red, white and blue who were responsible for such bigotry. No, the target primarily was a society, which has allowed such ignorance and intolerance to, not simply exist, but to grow.

A succession of governments, MPs, MSPs, council leaders, police officers, football governors, football clubs and decision makers have failed us.

That this is allowed to continue, largely unchecked, really is Scotland’s Shame.

  15. I see Tony Donnelly increasingly desperate and bizarre attempts to justify the unjustifiable continue. As cheating and racism runs rampant around Scottish football and our board say and do nothing you expect us all to park our brains like you?

    You gotta be kidding.

And Auldheid now says we are a EL team as the attempt to manage expectations every downward continue. We can’t beat the mighty molde etc cos we have errr, much more. Money than them!,,,,,

  16. TD67

I was referring to the board, not you personally.

You will be just as angry as me, if the cheating isnt addressed….im sure we can agree on that.

  17. Communicatiin is a big part of my problem with the board.

Celtic fans hospitalised before Ajax game they say nothing. A couple of guy’s with flares at Fernebache out comes a statement. Guy’s getting lifted at games every week for singing they say nothing but when seats broke at Motherwell statement again and over 100 banned. I don’t condone the use of flares and breaking seats btw.

If we see Europa League as or level due to finances come out and say it . This board need to start engaging with the support if not I can only see attendances dropping further.

Seen as you started the slagging boyo, I’m thinking you wouldent a very big spot for you to park yours.

  19. You know lads….all this amounts to the same thing…they cannot be allowed to cheat, end of story.

That is the common ground between everybody.

  20. I agree totally with the earlier poster, the SMSM media will not comment on the Sectarian chanting from Ibrox yesterday until the Celtic away support give them the chance to even things up. So predictable.

  22. We played the undead deid yins off the park last season.

What was the score? 4,5, 7,8…..nil?

Nope. It was 2-0. Remember how we suddenly got a free kick when we were clean through on goal…..

Fast forward to the Scottish Cup semi. Remember that…..

Since then…….our squad is a little worse, there’s is a little better, they now have a competent manager.

So if they do defy the financial authorities and Mike Ashley (and they’ve done so this far) then we can expect them in the top league next year with vengeance on their mind aided by mibbery at unprecedented levels.

How anyone fails to view this as a threat to our footballing success (leaving aside the wider societal issues) is a mystery to me.

    ==%%%%%==

I agree . In my post I mentioned not letting the smsm drive the “CL is a must for RD ” agenda.

CELTIC do have the figures that would tell us the costs and risks of being a regular CL club.

If those figures persuade them the risk is too great then why not let the support in on it and shut up the media in the process?

I did a spreadsheet that made certain assumptions about the cost of CL entry over 3 years on basis of a 3 year contract to CL standard players with xfer fees.

One player wasn’t enough because of injury risk. Two would be better but 3 making it a safer bet. So I costed for 3.

I’ll need to find the spreadsheet to see the xfer fees and wages I used to get 3 quality players in but I remember that to be quids in we had to qualify each season over the 3 years of those players contracts. Over two years we still made a few bob but if only one season from 3 we lost money.

So before taking that risk I’d like to see what could be down to minimise it (like continuity of players and manager over 3 seasons and season change) both not easy to achieve.

The thing about the EL is that, as we showed last season, we can be there after Christmas on our current wage bill and I think not having a settled back four and horrible unforced errors cost us this time. OK we aren’t going to amass a fortune to create an unbridgeable gap between ourselves and other domestic competitors but is that really a bad thing?

The big crowd at Ibrox yesterday reflected what fans thought was at stake so making a league uncompetitive is not good for the game.

Finally I detect a little bit of past life fear which is when we think what happened before will happen again with TRFC.

Remember they could only compete with us by cheating and as long as something is done to stop a repeat and CELTIC can make demands when the time is right on that front then we have nothing to worry about.

However if we do stay silent when the time comes (which will be after appeal process on ebts end and court cases allow matters that have been buried to surface ) then CELTIC will have to act just to protect themselves.

But on your initial point I think a bit of transparency on assumptions that guide decisions might help although there is always the risk that such revelations become new rods to sustain core perceptions of our custodians and the divide remains.

  25. Without going into the rag to read, isn’t this amusing

SPFL await match delegate report before deciding whether to take action on sectarian chanting at Ibrox

THE league body have confirmed that a delegate attended yesterday’s Rangers v Hiibs match, where banned songs were sung by the home support…

Now I never seen 1 second of this game, I did hear these songs come across on the radio as I was driving, and that included commentators bumming about the great atmosphere, tells us all we need to know about those individuals

As for this so called SPFL, they have no ears unless one of their brothers report it – hahaha

    ———————————————————————————————————————————————————–

To be honest, I think all of the above mentioned should have far more important things to occupy their time than the doing something about the vile songs sung at the bigot-dome. As far as I am concerned they can sing all their “traditional” songs they want as long as we go on winning trophy after trophy and they don’t.

Getting the police and politicians involved has only led to the ridiculous OBA which I predicted it would when they first started singing the Famine Song and we demanded something be done about it. It was inevitable that the authorities would want to be seen to be “even handed” about so-called offensive songs at football matches and now you can be charged with a criminal offence for singing about a band of Irish freedom-fighters even though Her Maj laid a wreath in their honour in 2011. Crazy, crazy, crazy.

Frankly, I ‘m much more concerned about the gross mis-management of our own club than anything that sung at the Bigot-dome. I have never cared and never will. It doesn’t offend me because I don’t allow it to. They are scum and will always behave like scum. It’s one of the things that makes us and other sets of fans different from them.

Did your spread sheet include the potential savings on the high number of under performers or people we pay for nothing into account ?

Take this waste out and will make a different picture financially

I.e this year the combined costs for Cole and Ciftci ?

Blacket & Scott Allen, who are not making any impact ?

    And just my personal opinion

Get an appropriate Management team in place for a club f our stature – I do blame this as a major contributory factor in our failure this year to make either Champions league with the £18m pot and now the Europa league post Christmas games
