This is just the next step for The Celtic Triangle

493

You win five-in-a-row and go 24 points clear but it’s not until you propose to build an architecturally pleasing hotel and museum that the penny begins to drop with some that you are, in fact, an exceptionally well run football club.

I loved reading how we are interpreted on the other side of the city in yesterday’s CQN Magazine article, Simply Depressed:

“Commercially trolling us now. Light years ahead in income plans.

“It’s a source of revenue (and a fantastic bit of PR)….. It can pull an entire local community together and actually create new followers.

“If we ever get our act together, it will take years if at all to get anywhere near them financially, we can slaughter Lhiewell (sic.) all we want, but the bottom line is he is delivering for them.

“It’s a good initiative, having a hotel allows you to have certain events that were not previously possible. Media and corporate sponsorship will increase, new hospitality packages will be created, money from concerts will increase, supporters will hire function rooms and stay the nights more often.

“Just feel we are getting left behind commercially and will be seen as the poor football relation in Glasgow…this one highlights the growing gap between us and them it’s depressing.”

Pulling this together has taken years. Internal voices have dampened expectations during this period, a few times over the years I’ve heard: “There’s a long way to go, remember “floating pitches and super-casinos”” – a valuable lesson, thanks, Sir David. Celtic didn’t want to break ranks on this until the necessary money and commercial partnerships were lined up.

Don’t think this will see The Celtic Triangle finished, either, this is just the next step. The club have learned lessons from every noteworthy stadium of every sport in the world. European club football facilities miles behind where top US sports are at present.

We’re not there yet, but we’re on the road, and this is one journey that’s very enjoyable.

Perfect day for the horrible chore of coating the wee bricks between the space where the roof terrace tiles meet the walls with a horrible but effective anti damp resin . . Up early , do the job and then wait 3hrs for it to be dry enough to apply a second coat .

Yesterday you suggested the PLC don’t care about success on the pitch, laughable nonsense. Then almost in another post you suggested we should pay tax on any profits rather than reinvest the money for ‘moral reasons’.

What you don’t seem to understand is that we have a competitive advantage in this country because we turnover more money than any other team. Its really that simple. The idea that we would pay tax when we don’t have to, thus giving away our competitive advantage, is nonsensical.

Yesterday you suggested the Club were using ‘our’ money to invest in the projects such as the Hotel. When you say ‘our’ I’m not sure what you mean. I thought you said you don’t give Celtic any money.

Today, well you don’t seem to understand the vagaries of Cup football. One off games etc etc. It’s the same the world over.

And as for limiting investment in the team, the fact is expenditure on football operations is up £9m in the half term Report, compared with last year.

Try and enjoy the Celtic, i am and so is everyone else.

  3. Just read the “simply depressed” article. As a child of Wayne Biggins I do find some of the trolling that we have more money leaving a bad taste in the mouth. I was always for worth in spirit not in materialism.

Anyway, this part had me chuckling into my soup:

“We have some amount of fans coming from NI, Fife etc that would stay in hotel. 200 rooms at £100 each is £200k per home game.”

Apart from the bad maths, this poster also didn’t do to well in Geography if he thinks Fife is as far away as Belfast…..

Also, they mention the temporary ticket office. We also have a temporary structure but its well known that even on their journey their ticket office was far better resourced than ours. Two sevcoites I work with don’t have bad word to say how they handle ticket sales and away ticket allocation policies.

  6. Done it plenty of times Ernie and they have done the same regarding their new/old club. You get caught out if you try and defend the indefensible at times and honesty has lead them to giving me some gems to chuckle at.

    —–

At the start of this season King wiped the away match history of all supporters. The reason for this was that he said he didn’t want to punish those who had boycotted Sevco matches during the previous regime. Essentially he rewarded this who supported his take-over. What this meant was that this who stood by them through thick and thin and travelled up to Peterhead and the likes had their history wiped. You’ll find plenty of Sevvies who aren’t happy with their allocation policy.

    I think it’s supposed to be 10.

In Japan the recommended number is 13.

  9. Timreaper,

Guys I speak to use a supporters club who seem to do well in the tickets stake. I suppose, like us, if the allocation policy works for you then you don’t see the failings that others see.

I will ask them about that.

Thanks for pointing that out, although I nearly spat a mouthful of coffee over my computer when I read your posts!!!

I posted the article this morning in a rush (thus the lack of a pic of the hand-standing stand in). Mrs Winning Captains needed help re getting the car out of the snow and I had to go and assist. I was 80% through editing so just stuck up that pic and posted.

The offending words are well and truly gone now, you will be pleased to hear.

Bad grammar on my part? Again, who cares!

Bad manners on being dug up/ridiculed about it? Almost certainly.

Martybhoy … tried to post last night, but I didn’t see if, so it may not have gone through…. just wanted to say glad you are feeling better. And thanks for taking the time to posti that … it could not have been an easy post to write. But, who knows, it may save a life or two in the future. we all ignore things, and hope they go away…. so your post was a good reminder.

Nice to hear stories from other posters who have had similar experiences, and come through it okay. I am sure you will too.

    Hail hail and good health

Thanks for responding and acting. I had to check my posts about it too, and re-reading the sentence, incase I’d missed the joke, and was about to make a clown of myself.

Like others, I walked a mile in the shoes you’re now breaking in and I wish you well for the recovery period. Follow the regimen, it’s not overly burdensome. The NHS rehab for me was at Scotstoun Sports Centre. You’ll be surprised how soon before you’re back off the leash and on the lash, for a couple.

I was breezily hurdling the risk factors until tripping up at genetic disposition in past years and I’m back at the Jubilee next week, so it’s grand to know they remain in top form there.

Three points against Hamilton is my focus this week.

OK,now I see why he is torn.Torn between crying his eyes out or slamming his torn face into the nearest wall.

  25. Once again I would like to thank everyone for their best wishes, prayers and the sharing similar experiences. It is very heartening (no pun intended) to hear of so many on this great site who have fully recovered from a heart attack and went onto have a full and active life. As MIT stated at the very least it allowed me to highlight the importance of acting on pain within your body and if that means one person has considered this and taken action then it has been very worthwhile story to share.

  26. !!Bada Bing!!

It would be well deserved, said he taking one for the team.

I was actually going to write about events in Dundee on Sunday today, songs on buses, fighting among themselves in the ground, mass theft from nearby shops and maybe some more bad bear behaviour in the Dens bogs.

James Forrest, we’re both fine thanks. Will mail you to arrange.

  27. Awe FFS! Just caught a reprieve on SSN there.

Ersatz FC have announced a new hotel, museum and ticketing complex to be built in close proximity to NI and FIFE. It will be built in a triangular piece if land just 6.47km as the monkeys swing from Ibrox providing easy access for fans on match day with ease of travel using Trains, planes and automobiles. Dave King says “this will show Celtic”.
