This is just the next step for The Celtic Triangle

493

You win five-in-a-row and go 24 points clear but it’s not until you propose to build an architecturally pleasing hotel and museum that the penny begins to drop with some that you are, in fact, an exceptionally well run football club.

I loved reading how we are interpreted on the other side of the city in yesterday’s CQN Magazine article, Simply Depressed:

“Commercially trolling us now. Light years ahead in income plans.

“It’s a source of revenue (and a fantastic bit of PR)….. It can pull an entire local community together and actually create new followers.

“If we ever get our act together, it will take years if at all to get anywhere near them financially, we can slaughter Lhiewell (sic.) all we want, but the bottom line is he is delivering for them.

“It’s a good initiative, having a hotel allows you to have certain events that were not previously possible. Media and corporate sponsorship will increase, new hospitality packages will be created, money from concerts will increase, supporters will hire function rooms and stay the nights more often.

“Just feel we are getting left behind commercially and will be seen as the poor football relation in Glasgow…this one highlights the growing gap between us and them it’s depressing.”

Pulling this together has taken years. Internal voices have dampened expectations during this period, a few times over the years I’ve heard: “There’s a long way to go, remember “floating pitches and super-casinos”” – a valuable lesson, thanks, Sir David. Celtic didn’t want to break ranks on this until the necessary money and commercial partnerships were lined up.

Don’t think this will see The Celtic Triangle finished, either, this is just the next step. The club have learned lessons from every noteworthy stadium of every sport in the world. European club football facilities miles behind where top US sports are at present.

We’re not there yet, but we’re on the road, and this is one journey that’s very enjoyable.

I was speaking about someone who had a heart attack two weeks ago. He had three stents fitted and was out of hospital in a few days. He is back working (though from home currently) and is saying that this is the best he has felt in a long while……feels really fit and healthy. Just another positive example to add to the many that you have been given

Best of luck to you but don’t climb too many mountains too soon.

  2. now now turkeybhoy try and relax the grip on your cloth cap and you will wear your forelock out if you tug it any harder.

Tim reaper all I am pointing out is that the board clearly made decisions not to invest in a successful football team (given the CL exits) to save up money – presumably for projects such as the hotel etc. I think it would be sensible of the board to explain its so called longer term strategy to allow supporter who pay season ticket money every year and whether they are willing to not see it invested on the pitch.

As for the tax morale issue. It strikes me that for many of you morals only apply to someone else – i.e. those attached to other clubs, using EBTs etc. but not to Celtic. “Giving away” tax – now that is genuinely hilarious.

As for not understanding the “vagaries of cup football” I think I do – but allowing ourselves to be so poor that Sevco can beat you whilst accumulating vast sums in bank accounts does not, it seems to me, constitute a fantastically run football club.

Unless of course you lust after nice numbers in a bank account. Which does seem to be the case in many instances…..

Triumphalism eh. Whod have thunk it

I see a couple of shots at neganon this morning …. I really cant understand why his post attract such opprobrium.

He basically says we need to be better informed by our Board, or in this case, have more information about the development going forward …. That doesn’t seem unreasonable to me.

It is too much to ask if it is a Q of the PLC for some of the flappy happers.

I’m just enjoying Erstaz FC pain too much to get ding dinged by the slappy nappers.

Not had an MI, but do have Paroxsysmal AF no treatment at present but always on the look out for changes, told to keep going to the gym and playing golf which I do regularly, very little known about this and unlike plumbing issues with your circulation, you cannot get a new wiring system for your heart.

okay … NA is back on, and clearly doesn’t need me to speak for him, or defend him.

Season ticket holders will make their own minds up. We all want and expect different things.

You brought morals into the discussion. Personally I’m quite happy with Celtic morally and ethically. It’s a delicate balance that needs to be found between that and driving up revenue to ensure we have a successful team on the pitch. I think we do a good job, not perfect but good.

As for lusting after big numbers, not necessarily. I want Celtic to be the most successful and dominant team in this county but I understand that big numbers are part of the equation needed to achieve that.

Whilst we bath in the warm glow of Celtic’s announcement of Hotels and museums and loadsa cash i think we should beware the cunning under the radar secret plans being hatched by deidco/sevco.

    They are reaching fruition.

Witness the way that they have obtained the services of Mr. Custard the bluenose clown/tumbler as their manager. He will have the fans laughing their heads off at his antics. This was done right under our noses. We didn’t keep our eye on the behind the scenes manouvres.

Wait ’till you see him in his big funny shoes and his joke lapel flower and his spinning bow tie. The laugh will be on us.

Now there’s rumours of an underwater hotel and casino AND CL football.

That guy will demand spend spend spend no matter what. He’ll dredge up any poor result from the last 5 or so years to get his point across.

The reality is, we were underachieving under Ronny. Brendan Rodgers has been able to get so much more out of the same squad. I admit that I wasn’t somebody who could see it. I believed in Ronny and wanted him to achieve. I was wrong.

I didn’t want Tommy Burns to go either but Wim gave us Henrik. I guess I’ve been wrong twice.

Problem is, the board cannot speak to the fans without it getting coverage from the SMSM.

The last time they attempted to do so they wrote confidentially to fans in a certain section about a certain fan with hygiene issues. Of course it didn’t take long for some idiot to send the letter over Twitter and the club were a laughing stock.

The club would have made sure that this was likely to happen before announcing it. Even then, I was aware of this about 6 months ago.

I could provide an alternative narrative on the factors that led Celtic to make the decisions they did from 2012.

Losing the title and so CL access was at the lowest risk point it has ever been in recent times.

With what was thought to be (but obviously wasn’t with departure of John Park) a solid recruiting of players to develop system in place, they needed a manager with a record of improving players rather than one who could spot already developed talent that came at a cost which was not merited in the circumstances of risk to title.

That explains why RD was recruited and saving money is clearly not the objective in that narrative although it might be the result.

(For why it went wrong I wrote an analysis of the manager recruitment factors since 2000 about a month ago on CQN.)

In short true and full motivations cannot be plotted back from the outcome without a full handle on the thinking at the time.

You could be right but so could I, but it’s not about either narrative, it’s about better understanding and your conclusion about a greater degree of transparency has the merit of producing a more informed narrative, so I’m all for it but I can also see why Celtic are wary of being too open.

However the last Res12 on improving communications has resulted in some progress in that area and I have every confidence the parties to that initiative will do their best to make it work.

To anticipate your next question on Res12 of 2013 AGM.

UEFA made it clear they would only deal with Celtic, where the matter now lies, but this is where the latest Res12 will provide the opportunity to keep supporters informed and in doing so become proof of its own pudding.

Ronnie was a poor appointment made stupidly from a base were he was interviews for an assistants position.

We all know this already. He was a cheap, in Peters back pocket appt.

No amount of supposed planning can camouflage that. Unless of course you believe Neil Lennon to be a liar with regards the initial Ronny role.

Anyway. Back to Ersatz FC gloating now.

CCE …I am not sure if your post at 4:10 is supposed to be humorous …If I have misunderstood, I apologize. But, if intended as a joke, it doesn’t come across well (maybe, having a father who died from that illness, I am too close to the issue) ….

can I ask you please to ask the mods to delete that post.

auldheid …. as usual, a fair and balanced reply. One day, I hope to have the pleasure of sitting down with yourself, neg and a few others, and dissecting what really happened .

They often ask what historical figures you would like to have dinner with …. and people always say Jesus, Ghandi …. and they are all good choices … but I think I would always find a space at that table for a few CQN’ers as well (and I am assuming JC reads, but does not post on, CQN, so He can throw His two cents worth about the SFA!)
