I’ve always cautioned against judging a player who has been out for an extended period but being hooked at halftime last night looks like an ominous sign for Derk Boerrigter, who sparkled for 30 minutes on his debut against Ross County earlier in the season but has come nowhere close to that form since.
Injuries stopped him in his tracks that day against County, and several times since, but whatever the reason, we’ve not seen anything like what the player is capable of, and at 27, he is likely to be looking for first team action elsewhere next season.
After last night’s game Neil Lennon spoke of the possibility of signing and losing players over the summer transfer window, which starts in three weeks. Buying well is crucial, and Celtic didn’t do that last summer, but getting those ‘no longer in the manager’s plans’ off the books as early as possible is also important.
Last August we offloaded Lassad, probably by parting with a bundle of cash in the process. This is not a precedent Celtic will have been keen to set, but it’s better to have the decks cleared than have an unproductive player linger around for a year.
Anyone starting less than a third of the games he is available for selection should be looking for pastures new, especially with new arrivals expected this summer.

Up over goal
Re Matthews he needs to broaden out, toughen up and give the impression that any unacceptable tackling on his person will be harshly responded to. Also there is a lack of urgency in his closing down wingers which allows too many cheap crosses into our box.
Mikal is far superior to Adam and with his extra height forces the opposition to punt long in Izzy’s direction who can be helped out by Chas and Virgil.

A guy goes to the market and buys a slave.
Shortly afterwords, the slave dies.
Guy goes back to the seller and says that slave you sold me died.
“He never died when I owned him”
Pukki will need to put some muscle on ,to play in this league IMO.
Test
One thing i have noticed about Mikel is he is by far, by a long way the angriest player we have on our books.
EKBhoy mentioned that Adam needs to toughen up he should look no further than Mikel.
LAst night someone put a hand in his face and he went bush. And was clearly irked for a good 10 mins after.
Watch him anytime someone puts in a heavy tackle on him. He is very vocal.
The rest of the team could do with going to Lustig Angry classes.
I like it coz no one else seems to care
instead of signing more players
i believe we should have more emphasis on youth players and try and bring them through to the first team
we should have been blooding youth teamers non stop since we won the league and see what they are made off, are they fit to be celtic first teamers in the future
if they are not, then go outside the club for players

Every twist of the knife is its own symphony.
Will Andrew Dickson@rfc_dickson·assign the decision to alter Sevco’s Under20’s desperate throw of the dice v Falkirk Under20s, such that it was played immediately ahead of that club’s crucial closing league match in the race for the Championship, to the mighty Unseen Fenian Hand?
Me, I doubt it.
Don’t post too often but got to say the John Hughes book and the contribution of CQN is just awesome, Tommy Gemmell book is also promising to be a good read.
Bit of topic, but think fair play to Russell Brand for his statement and GIUY to the sun and other red tops today, got substantial damages from them and right away donated it all to Hillsborough Justice Campaign.
Quote
“It could be a coincidence. Or it could be that the Sun loves me when I’m a prattling, giggling, Essex boy ‘Shagger of the Year’, when I’m in my proper place, beneath vacuous headlines, herding their flock towards dumb lingo and crap bingo, when I’m being cheeky on MTV or even unwisely invading answerphones, in a way that many would argue, is less offensive than the manner that they are alleged to have done.
“In my place I’m fine, but if I use my glistening podium, to talk to the people I grew up with, or signed on with or used drugs with, vulnerable overlooked, underserved, ordinary people, people that can’t sue them as I am, then out come the fangs.”
Nice one
delaneys dunky,

The Honest Mistake loves being first
Something tells me the SFA and UEFA would have dealt differently with Celtic if we had comitted Barcelona’s misdemeanours. Other than that, yeah!
EKBhoy
Matthews has been in poor form and has never played well up in Perth, so his performance yesterday should not have come as a surprise to NL.
He had improved last season over 11/12, but this season has sunk to below the level he was at when he first arrived.
I agree that Lustig is the better player – then again, I think Fisher should be ahead of Matthews.
DD Cheers mate, wee mans looking forward to it, both thought we’d missed it. I’ll look out for you nephew

Mmmm, that would be a pleasure! ;)

Pukki will need to put some muscle on ,to play in this league IMO.
———–
When first watching Pukki play, I thought he looked a bit plump.
As you point out he is looking a bit lightweight now but on a couple of occasions last night he fought well to retain possession.
Minding the discussions earlier this week…it’s a hard call whether to muscle him up or not. HH
P.s. I would give Pukki another season as I think he could come good with more games to enhance his confidence.

Just off the phone to him, he thinks a Utd win. Moving up there has changed him! :)
The positives from last night; easy for me… Spent a really enjoyable few hours in ‘The Columba’ in the splendid company of Macspapa and family, Paolo’s Boots and the legend that is BT… Cheers ghuys and hey Paolo, thanks for the lift home. Appreciated. Regards & Hail Hail… TBM
Hate to say it but I think Derk and Amido have kicked their last ball for us .if indeed they ever kicked a first.Teemu however is a different story altogether.High hopes for the second season.
DD,
Life is good as always, on my night of tonight on nightshift, so I’m sitting at 0315 on Friday morning drinking red wine and keeping an eye on the golf on TV, back to work on Friday night, will be keeping an eye on the U’20’s during the night.

My Godson/nephew is a Bankiebhoy, who wants Utd to win tomorrow, cause he is playing. Where did my sis go wrong?? Haha
I didn’t have any conversations with Rankers fans today, nor have I had any recently , nor do I intend to have any.
I did however have a wee gander at CQN, twitter and saw lots of comments about Rankers and their impending implosion, whether they are or are not a new club, and whether their season tickets are up down or sideways.
Occasionally, I saw the odd tweet about Celtic, and, my conclusion was that after the season that just ended, we should spend more time worrying about our club, and less about others.
The manager described this season as 7 out of 10, and , IMHO that is fair, but , I don’t think I am being unfair in saying it’s not good enough.
Things that worry me for next season are
-Will ST sales hold up?
– We scraped into last year’s CL , are we better prepared for next year?
– We are about to lose our Asst Mgr, whilst our manager’s commitment is less than convincing (IMHO)
– Last summer’s transfer activity was very poor , with only 1 player making a decent contribution, and other contributions varying from nil to marginal
I am wary of being critical of fellow fans, but can I suggest that we spend more time looking at our own house, and let the other mob get on with whatever journey they are on?
Any thoughts!
On the Efe debate.Efe is an amazing athlete, great footballer. The one thing I have been battering on about for ages about him,is,he cannot jump.Look at all the blunders he has made. All high balls. His timing of the jump is terrible. Not a great thing for a CH.
Think Efe would be a terrific holding midfielder. He can bring the ball out with ease,he passes well.At CH,I think he will always make mistakes.
Regards the LB position.I think many fans forgetting how good Mathews was.We will not be able to hold onto both if they both stay fit.A decision is going to have to be made at some time.Cash in on one or the other.
Up over goal
Fisher is a very strong tackler and blocks crosses well, distribution beyond the half way line is however very poor.
I noticed when Fisher plays , the opposition will invariably move their tallest player out to his flank , usually leaves more space for Izzy to break forward.
If Fisher can improve his distribution then we would have a real talent on our hands.

I’m assuming you are talking Sawgrass.
Had Lee Westwood in the Masters blew up in the first few holes of the last round.
Won his next tournament in Malaysia. Got off to a good start today.

I think you are pretty harsh on Mathews.
He was having a fine season till the lasley assault that put him out for weeks then he was introduced back into the team at the nou camp of all places.
His error last Saturday was the first real mistake of note I can remember this season.
celtic mac,
That’s the one, just saw that outrageous chip in by Fowler, amazing how often those guys can do that kind of shot. Didn’t see Westwood but he is high on the leaderboard at the moment. 17th there is a classic.

Aye impressed by JR & Craig Bryson.
Got Brighton 3-2 @ 28s.
sipsini- Pukki might be worth persevering with but i think along with Derk and Balde, they might possibly be loaned out ,or makeweights in transfers.HH
clashcitybhoy- can’t argue with your concerns mate.HH
We don’t have a winger ! Derek going and Jamesy unreliable
Anya could be our new Agathe! Sign him please
Clashcitybhoy
Agree with your concerns.
Bigger fish to fry at home!
Clashcity,
I’m not paid enough to worry about either team.
Clashcitybhoy
Worry about a few things myself , mainly season tickets sales think we will have a big drop this year. Also don’t like the idea of playing the qualifiers at Murrayfield and not qualifying would be a disaster. Think there will also be a big turnover of players coming and going again which is also not ideal with having the qualifiers being as early.
DD
My bet is up already, had over 2.5 goals @ 27/20, and just got Adrian Lewis @ 5/4 before the start, and 5/2 when he was 1 down, stuck a few bob on Phil Taylor @ 10/11 when he was 1 down, soon will be 2 each, happy enough >}
Best of………..

Ricky is a great wee player, could win a Major at some point. Sawgrass isn’t far off that level.

Nice one bud! :)
Two nil Brighton in 2nd half please. :)
Adam Matthews is a quality footballer and I can’t believe Celtic supporters claiming otherwise.
He’s been hampered by injury and clearly hasn’t discovered his fitness or his touch since returning. For goodness sake give the bhoy time.
Those saying he needs to ‘broaden up’ etc. have a wee look at his arms the next time he’s taking a throw in near you; he’s solid.
I do think he’s injury prone but it’s certainly not down to lack of strength.
