Those moving on in the summer

1021

I’ve always cautioned against judging a player who has been out for an extended period but being hooked at halftime last night looks like an ominous sign for Derk Boerrigter, who sparkled for 30 minutes on his debut against Ross County earlier in the season but has come nowhere close to that form since.

Injuries stopped him in his tracks that day against County, and several times since, but whatever the reason, we’ve not seen anything like what the player is capable of, and at 27, he is likely to be looking for first team action elsewhere next season.

After last night’s game Neil Lennon spoke of the possibility of signing and losing players over the summer transfer window, which starts in three weeks.  Buying well is crucial, and Celtic didn’t do that last summer, but getting those ‘no longer in the manager’s plans’ off the books as early as possible is also important.

Last August we offloaded Lassad, probably by parting with a bundle of cash in the process.  This is not a precedent Celtic will have been keen to set, but it’s better to have the decks cleared than have an unproductive player linger around for a year.

Anyone starting less than a third of the games he is available for selection should be looking for pastures new, especially with new arrivals expected this summer.

I think that’s a great idea and would be a lasting reminder for the family from CQN.

Ps I’m hopeful that I’ll get the opportunity to attend Wee Oscar’s funeral. If there’s anyone who would like Mass cards etc handed to the family then I’d be happy to take them with me. I’ll be at BMCUW’s gathering tomorrow and will make sure that I’m at the Pool’s Office before the game on Sunday.

    Kojo,

You have been giving us all these future stars now, in a never ending sequence, for over 8 years.

    Perspicacity is a great gift.

Would you give us a list of all those from your prognostications who are now big stars in the game.

I seem to remember that you were not very keen on Aiden.

    Thanks in advance.

  10. Just logged on and read back. So sorry to learn that very sad news about our wee fighter. God Bless Oscar and the Knox Family.

K/Kelt, with respect I don’t think today’s the day to start knockin’ lumps out of each other.

    DBBIA,

I will accept your admonition in the spirit that I am sure it was intended.

To be honest though, I saw no disrespect in my question.

You just can’t leave it alone – can you?

Like the barking dug everytime the ‘rag & bone’ man appeared!

  14. Like Tiny Tim, I recall that first post from Oscar’s Dad, outlining the difficult road ahead. I felt a chill, doubly so, as I recall getting the news of my own child’s terrible illness. She survived and thrived, but that terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach came back that day. And it has lingered.

All I can say is that the Knox family are in my thoughts and prayers. Oscar is my hero.

    God Bless.

K/Kelt- I never met wee Oscar, nor his parents, and I was only involved very peripherally in any fund raising that went on, but today I just feel very, very sad.

From what you have posted before I know that you are on the side of the angels on here.

I know the rules of the Naps Competition.

I know that you put an incredible amount of effort into it too.

I also know that today’s entries should be posted here as usual. I don’t want to sound sanctimonious but maybe just once we can post them on the article before this one.

Obviously I’ll go with the flow on it,just a thought, bud.

  18. Lads, for today only…

  19. Midfield Montego on

Like some others have no doubt said the competing difficulty is the lure of the Championship in England. I`m not sure that Champions League football is enough in itself to lure quality players to Parkhead and or indeed Scotland. The money on offer here will be trumped with ease and lets be honest the second tier of English football is a very good standard so the chance to land someone of the quality we desire is limited. I hope Lennon and the board are sincere when they acknowledge the mistake made a few years ago of not strengthening and thereby letting the championship go nor must we be side-lined by those who perpetuate the myth that the game is somehow poorer because Rangers are not there/here and that Celtic miss them and suffering because of the lack of a challenge. I can think of plenty of players who I would like us to sign and whom I would assume would like to play for us but I`m not sure that we can meet their expectations. So maybe it is time to give youth its chance as someone posted earlier energy, desire and youth whilst in itself it might not be enough but backed up with experience its a pretty powerful combination and might just work

  20. Sad to see Sammy go?? For a striker he has an awful goal record. You could count in one hand the games he has made a difference. The old firm game at Ibrox being his finest hour, apart from that he has had 3 good games in Champs League. Derek, Balde & Puki can all f off. As for Gary Hooper returning, he can pi$$ off too, he had his chance and left for a relegation battle when he was guarenteed Champions leage football, haha is all i can say. Bring In Snodgrass from Norwich!!!
