Those moving on in the summer

1021

I’ve always cautioned against judging a player who has been out for an extended period but being hooked at halftime last night looks like an ominous sign for Derk Boerrigter, who sparkled for 30 minutes on his debut against Ross County earlier in the season but has come nowhere close to that form since.

Injuries stopped him in his tracks that day against County, and several times since, but whatever the reason, we’ve not seen anything like what the player is capable of, and at 27, he is likely to be looking for first team action elsewhere next season.

After last night’s game Neil Lennon spoke of the possibility of signing and losing players over the summer transfer window, which starts in three weeks.  Buying well is crucial, and Celtic didn’t do that last summer, but getting those ‘no longer in the manager’s plans’ off the books as early as possible is also important.

Last August we offloaded Lassad, probably by parting with a bundle of cash in the process.  This is not a precedent Celtic will have been keen to set, but it’s better to have the decks cleared than have an unproductive player linger around for a year.

Anyone starting less than a third of the games he is available for selection should be looking for pastures new, especially with new arrivals expected this summer.

83: Celtic still leading 2-0 and holding on to a well-deserved lead that would give them three points and the title.

85: Another mazy run from McMullan down the right-hand side. He rolls it across the 18-yard line & Denny Johnstone’s powerful shot is saved.

  5. Sad, sad news this morning.

Never got to meet Oscar or his parents but my thoughts are with them all.

Of all the images of Oscar, the recent one where he was wearing his Superman outfit, having been very poorly for a while, is the one I recall now.

I’m sure I saw a defiant look in his eye and he was still fighting the curse that was draining him.

Never was a Superman outfit so aptly worn.

You were our wee Superman, Oscar.

    Hail Hail

I think that’s a great idea and would be a lasting reminder for the family from CQN.

Ps I’m hopeful that I’ll get the opportunity to attend Wee Oscar’s funeral. If there’s anyone who would like Mass cards etc handed to the family then I’d be happy to take them with me. I’ll be at BMCUW’s gathering tomorrow and will make sure that I’m at the Pool’s Office before the game on Sunday.

I remember very clearly standing in Paradise at the Cliftonville game and explaining to my 2 young daughters everything about Oscar as he led the team out.

And then showing them all the photos the next day of Oscar cuddling Hoopy. They loved they photos. Still do.

I’m going to pick them up from school soon and once they are home I will explain that he is now at peace and safe in Heaven.

Times like this that you need to reflect and ask yourself ”why am I moaning about stupid things”

Tonight, especially tonight,I’m going to try harder not to moan at my ghirls for silly things that don’t really matter.

I’m going to give them really tight hugs and remind them how much me and their Mum love them.

Then I’m going to thank The Lord for the gift of my children and ask Him to give the Knox family strength.

St.Pio, take good care of Oscar.

  21. Very well done to the young Hoops. Champions again!

    Wee Oscar will be cheering.

  22. Celtic only won today because they got an extra 19 hours rest

    Apparently

No doubt arranged by Peter Lowell who runs Scottish football.

That and GCC paying for The Celtic Way will have the knuckle draggers

    going bankers.
