Those moving on in the summer

1021

I’ve always cautioned against judging a player who has been out for an extended period but being hooked at halftime last night looks like an ominous sign for Derk Boerrigter, who sparkled for 30 minutes on his debut against Ross County earlier in the season but has come nowhere close to that form since.

Injuries stopped him in his tracks that day against County, and several times since, but whatever the reason, we’ve not seen anything like what the player is capable of, and at 27, he is likely to be looking for first team action elsewhere next season.

After last night’s game Neil Lennon spoke of the possibility of signing and losing players over the summer transfer window, which starts in three weeks.  Buying well is crucial, and Celtic didn’t do that last summer, but getting those ‘no longer in the manager’s plans’ off the books as early as possible is also important.

Last August we offloaded Lassad, probably by parting with a bundle of cash in the process.  This is not a precedent Celtic will have been keen to set, but it’s better to have the decks cleared than have an unproductive player linger around for a year.

Anyone starting less than a third of the games he is available for selection should be looking for pastures new, especially with new arrivals expected this summer.

I fully agree with every sentiment in your post. Surely the support for Oscar and his family bought precious time and memories – that alone is worth the effort.

Words are useless, but thoughts are with the Knox family who, I can only imagine, have been through a living hell, only brightened by the light that the wee man obviously was.

I could hardly get the words out to ask the young Lhass on reception as I was welling up, but I did. I’ll post a foto later.

  12. Why a minute’s applause for wee Oscar.

Is 60 seconds too long to stand in silence at that wee soul’s

    passing.

60 seconds in silence in which one may get closer to God or 1 minutes applause in which we can all may as much noise as we like, much like empty vessels.

    60 seconds. Silent. Think.

1 minute’s applause. Shout. Clap. make a din. like we used to do at infants school.

Is the world completely insane? Whence came this 1 minutes applause rubbish.

IMO If you met the wee man I think you’d understand why a minutes applause would be so much more appropriate. You didn’t get a silent minute in Oscars’s company.

That given if there is to be a marking of Oscar’s life then hopefully the decision as to how that is marked is taken between his parents and the club and thereafter everyone respects that.

  17. the long wait is over on

    Desperately sad news about Oscar.

Simply the worst thing that any parent can imagine happening.

Which of us wouldn’t lay down our lives for our children?

What the family have to endure now, on top of what they have already been through, simply doesn’t bear thinking about.

  18. RIP Brave little Oscar.

May your family take comfort in the fact that you made a difference.

    You will always be missed.
