Those moving on in the summer

1021

I’ve always cautioned against judging a player who has been out for an extended period but being hooked at halftime last night looks like an ominous sign for Derk Boerrigter, who sparkled for 30 minutes on his debut against Ross County earlier in the season but has come nowhere close to that form since.

Injuries stopped him in his tracks that day against County, and several times since, but whatever the reason, we’ve not seen anything like what the player is capable of, and at 27, he is likely to be looking for first team action elsewhere next season.

After last night’s game Neil Lennon spoke of the possibility of signing and losing players over the summer transfer window, which starts in three weeks.  Buying well is crucial, and Celtic didn’t do that last summer, but getting those ‘no longer in the manager’s plans’ off the books as early as possible is also important.

Last August we offloaded Lassad, probably by parting with a bundle of cash in the process.  This is not a precedent Celtic will have been keen to set, but it’s better to have the decks cleared than have an unproductive player linger around for a year.

Anyone starting less than a third of the games he is available for selection should be looking for pastures new, especially with new arrivals expected this summer.

    Really heartbreaking news.

  4. Just read of the passing of wee Oscar and didn’t know too much about him but from what little I did glean from browsing it was obvious that he was a magic wee man who could captivate those who came in contact with him by his sheer courage and spirit.

The mischievious wee guy who was enjoying life despite the tubes, the drugs and the pain.

What kind of society do we live in that can’t find money to treat the illness that blighted Oscar with the very best available, but when it comes to war and destruction of lives has an open cheque-book?

My sympathy goes out to his parents who must be devastated.

I remember when Koxy told us of his little son,s plight I posted this

” Finn’s grandson Oscar, the son of Finn’s own son Oisín, was the strongest and fiercest fighter of the Fianna. ”

Little did we know then how well his parents named him.

One wee boy’s life brought so much decency and humanity from strangers.

He touched so many and has made us all just a wee bit better.

Rest in Peace, Oscar and may your family gain some solace from the reflected love you received.

  11. Rest in Peace Wee Oscar .

A fighter all the way. Thoughts and Prayers are with his family at this devastating time.

Am convinced that something very good will come out of all the suffering that wee Oscar had to endure.

If his suffering means that some other family’s wee boy or girl will not have to endure what wee Oscar has gone thru then it would indeed be a comfort to the family.

  12. Just heard the news about Wee Oscar what an inspiration he was to us all, for he was just a child, brave is not enough to describe this little warrior’s fight for life, like others i cant find the words to express my sadness God Speed little one

In his parents Stephen & Leona he had 2 wonderful human beings whom I hope can find solace in the fact there little boy was loved by so many and to whom I offer my deepest sympathy & condolences

  13. Extremely heartbreaking news this morning.

Heart rending news about our wee hero. Facing the day with a heavy heart.

The image of Oscar running up to Hoopy on the pitch at CP will always remain with me and soften this cynical old heart.

Thoughts and prayers with all his family and ‘wee pals’. RIP

  15. Celticrollercoaster 10:13

Agree 100% something to commemorate the Wee Man would be a lovely gesture for the Knox family

  16. This is devastating news, however prepared you are for it, by the family’s efforts to inform in these recent dark days.

Oscar Knox and his valiant family could not help but capture hearts, wherever they went or were seen, as they demonstrated all that was best in the human condition. How did he cope with the pain he suffered? How did they cope as they saw their cherished son attacked by a relentless implacable unreasoning disease?

Well, they coped far better than anyone had a right to expect. Wee Oscar had a smile that could dim the effort that King Kenny showed on scoring a goal. His parents presented braver faces than any so-called hard men. They were all upbeat and positive in the face of overwhelming odds which must have gnawed constantly on their hopes.

I never spoke to the wee man and I missed the chance to speak to his parents at CQTen because I reckoned they needed the break more than my chat. But, Oscar was an inspiration to me and many like me on here with far lesser troubles to bother them. If he could cope, then who were we to complain?

celticrollercoaster was kind enough to put some inadequate words of mine on a presentation made at CQTen and I meant every one of them.

At this sad time, I am reminded of the lines from an e.e. cummings poem which I have altered slightly as an epitaph:-

    “Christ(of His mercy infinite)

    i pray to see;and Oscar,too

    preponderatingly because

    unless statistics lie he was

more brave than me:more blond than you.”

RIP Oscar Knox, who represented the best of us.

  17. Danny, Marc, Tommy and many many of the CQN family were fantastic champions for Wee Oscar and I feel for you all this morning. I heard the news and had to leave the work – greetin like a wean in George Square.

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam.

And for a brief moment its glory and beauty belongs to the world.

But then it fly’s once again, and though we wish it could have stayed, we feel so lucky to have seen it.

    For Stephen and Leona –

Daddy please don’t look so sad, mummy please don’t cry.

Cause I’m in the arms of Jesus, and he sings me lullabies.

Please try not to question God, don’t think he is unkind.

Don’t think he sent me to you and then changed his mind.

You see I’m a special child, I am needed up above.

I’m the special gift you gave Him, a product of your love.

I’ll always be there with you, so watch the sky at night.

Look for the brightest star and know that’s my halo’s brilliant light.

You’ll see me in the morning frost that mists your window pane.

That’s me in the summer showers, I’ll be dancing in the rain.

When you feel a gentle breeze from a gentle wind that blows.

Know that it’s me planting a kiss upon your nose.

When you see a child playing and your heart feels a tug,

Don’t be sad mummy, that’s just me giving your heart a hug.

So daddy don’t looks so sad and mummy please don’t cry.

I’m in the arms of Jesus and he sings me lullabies!

For our Wee Hero, who will never be forgotten –

Eternal rest grant unto him Oh Lord,

And let perpetual light shine upon him.

    May he rest in peace.
