Those moving on in the summer

1021

I’ve always cautioned against judging a player who has been out for an extended period but being hooked at halftime last night looks like an ominous sign for Derk Boerrigter, who sparkled for 30 minutes on his debut against Ross County earlier in the season but has come nowhere close to that form since.

Injuries stopped him in his tracks that day against County, and several times since, but whatever the reason, we’ve not seen anything like what the player is capable of, and at 27, he is likely to be looking for first team action elsewhere next season.

After last night’s game Neil Lennon spoke of the possibility of signing and losing players over the summer transfer window, which starts in three weeks.  Buying well is crucial, and Celtic didn’t do that last summer, but getting those ‘no longer in the manager’s plans’ off the books as early as possible is also important.

Last August we offloaded Lassad, probably by parting with a bundle of cash in the process.  This is not a precedent Celtic will have been keen to set, but it’s better to have the decks cleared than have an unproductive player linger around for a year.

Anyone starting less than a third of the games he is available for selection should be looking for pastures new, especially with new arrivals expected this summer.

In 2012 Rangers was liquidated. A new club was formed and Rangers had to apply to the Scottish league system where the club started again in the lower tiers of Scottish football.

    Correct!

Closely followed by an open goal miss at Dens Park and an OG at Pittodrie. The boy was poor. Made Bobby Petta look like Johan Cryuff!

*Feyenoord at one time had 3 up and coming youngsters, Regi, Henke and Bobby, of the 3 Bobby was reckoned to be the most promising and the one most likely to succeed.

  11. As it happens I have twice in the last couple of days been asked by English guys with an interest in football what happened to Rangers.

Well apart from recommending Downfall by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain there were two very obvious misconceptions to put right.

    1. No, Rangers were not demoted or relegated but went out of business because

(and this is something that registered more with them than anything else I might have added about being helped to do so by The SFA and possibly also by the SPL)

2.They owed the British taxpayer ie my small audience, at least £18M in tax already established as a liability to the UK taxpayer, but possibly rising by another £24m if HMRC won their tax appeal on ebts PLUS another sum equal to or exceeding that of penalties, for a grand total of around £70m.

Whilst the £18m tax robbed has by and large gone under the taxpayers radar, defrauding UK citizens of £70m will be much harder to hide IF HMRC win and IF the full extent of the fraud is reported UK wide.

On the latter Alex Thomson is the best bet.

When you look at it from the taxpayers’ angle more than football supporters have something to demand answers about.

Have HMRC questioned Scottish football authorities about their part in The Great Tax Robbery or are they waiting for the UTT to add weight to any enquiry?

After all if the rules had been more diligently applied by SPL/SFA, the whole mess could have been avoided.

Boerrigter is a typical MOTD signing, no thought, just that he was in the Ajax therefore he must have something about him.

I’ve said it a hundred times, even the very best teams have dross in their ranks, whether it’s a lack of calmness, professionalism, discipline, skill, effort, heart, desire, some players in the best teams just don’t have what it takes, and Celtic have had more than a fair share.

I always chuckle when someone defends a player saying, he must be good as he was in such-and-such a team.

I’ve seen the many enquiries for Du Wei and Scheidt as a defensive pairing due to their having once played for Celtic. Neither are good enough for Buckie Thistle never mind Celtic, although there are rumours that Sevco are preparing to spend £7,000 per week on them but only if they endorse the current board and take arbitrary pot shots at Richard Gough & Dave King.

English re-construction and the introduction of B sides into the pyramid structure.

Have to say this is an absolutely brilliant idea from the FA, and one that’s decades overdue. The very idea of having reserve leagues was always a nonsense, the fact that Scotland adopted it too was maddening. It allows players carte-blanche to try as hard as they feel necessary rather than for the team, having them involved in the pyramid structure including the cups will help foster a competitive edge (in the sense of making continuous incremental improvements), something long since missing from British players.

It does make Celtic’s chances of getting into English football as dead as Rangers are now.

I think borrigter should be given another year to prove himself, he’s had a terrible time with injuries and if he stays fit could be a good player for us. Players should always get 2 seasons at a club IMO HH

I felt a bit sorry for Balde last night…..Amido that is, not Jobo.

As much as it was good to see him getting a start and not just the last 5 minutes, i felt the rest of Neil’s team selection meant the guy never really got as good a chance to impress as he could have done.

Why not play the guy in a game with what would be as close to our 1st 11 as possible?

No Forster or Izzy, Brown and Commons.

    Derk getting a run out?

    Mathews in midfield?

Charlie Mulgrew at Left back again?

Toooooo many changes all at the 1 time and with quite a few not even playing well, the guy could have been put in a better team than that.

Since the League was wrapped up players that perhaps could have had a run of games were still not being involved because the points target was supposedly exactly that, then all of a sudden with just 2 games to go……it changed?

I thought that team selection was a bit bizarre really.

It is not unreasonable to think that the players who come in will want to impress but why so many changes????
