Time for expensive signings, the 1254125 10k

1606

Motherwell travel to Celtic Park tomorrow on a mission.  A win would see them draw level with Celtic, and after a physically and mentally draining Champions League midweek game, they will fancy their chances.  Inverness remain top of the league on goal difference, but this is the third consecutive season Motherwell have tucked in below Celtic.  They will not finish above Celtic, of course, but this is likely to be our toughest test of the season.

As well as the result, there should be other objectives from tomorrow’s game.  We are eight games into our European campaign but our two most expensive summer signings, Teemu Pukki and Derk Boerrigter, and still to settle into the team.  Both should start against Motherwell.

For reasons you know too well, I thought it would be a good idea to do the Great Scottish Run on Sunday in aid of 1254125.  I have (just) setup a Mydonate page, if you have been unable to participate in any event so far, you can do so online now.

Many thanks for your support.

totally agreed on that one m8 he’s a player all right he an efe will get better together, one thing i’d love is for them to be more of a threat at set pieces in the opponents box hh

Spot on about VVD ……IMPERIOUS.!!!!!!!!……..and brings out the best in Efe also…. Media are always quick to criticise our centre back partnerships….quiet at the moment, but not for long…one slip, and the bigot-pens will be right out…..hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  3. Every game that Brines referees sees lenient reffing of tackles in the first half followed by a panicky crackdown in the second.

Usually, that means Celtic get kicked off the park and, by the time they decide to give it back, the cards are flying. It was not as bad as that today but our players, especially Scott Brown, showed a lot of restraint in not rising to the provocation.

For the 2nd game running, Izzy walked a thin line whilst fouling on a yellow. We need to see what cover we have for this position as we can afford to give every player a rest this season but who deputises for Izzy? Adam does not fancy it and Charlie is exposed against tricky wingers. A chance this year for Joe Chalmers or Filip Twardzik in that position.

Good to see Billy McNeill in fine form chatting with Steven Moyokoulo who was struggling to move about the main stand using crutches.

  4. Just in from the game. I hope Adam Mathew isn’t too seriously injured. I may be well wrong but I thought at the time that the tackle on him was hard but fair. I didn’t think it was a penalty. I was sad about Wilson going but van Dijk is a far better player. He will be a great player, imo. Ambrose is in fine form too. it’s great to have 2 CBs backs who are comfortable on the ball even if Ambrose frightens the life out of me on occasion.

Good win; 2 tremendous goals and a clean sheet, courtesy of a goalie who is getting back to his best. What’s not to be happy about, especially as Caley Thistle lost.

  6. Just back from the game and Celtic were great and Brines was awfull though in fairness he might have given them a penalty when Izzy went in hard late in the game and he was on a yellow.

I hope all CQN Govanites give him their vote on Thursday.

You know it makes sense, and no he hasn’t signed my petition……Yet, maybe after voting on Thursday so that he doesn’t upset the lodges vote!

Embrace Efe’s charges. It is Celtic theatre. I love our Nigerian Prince. :)

  8. Great performance and excellent result.

Back four were all great but VVD is a total star to enjoy while we have him because he will go for mega bucks sometime. As good as Kompany!

Broonie and Chas Muldini were also super and Adam was looking good before the assault by Lasley. Kris and Anto were excellent; Anto having upped his work rate and desire.

Only Pukki failed to shine really and Biton looked very good at plugging gaps later on.

Top of the league and there to stay.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist claims he agreed to a wage cut because it was “the right thing to do” and not for the benefit of the annual report.

Financial figures published this week showed an operating loss of £14.4m at Ibrox over a 13-month period until the end of June.

“I would like to point out that my decision to take a wage cut has nothing to do with the accounts,” said McCoist.

“The negotiations started well before the accounts came out.”

    ————————————————————————————————

Very good with semantics is old pieman. Note the very specific use of the word “accounts”. Has he actually denied that it had nothing to do with the finances? No.

A bit like when he was asked if he had an EBT and replied that he didn’t know anything about “illegal payments”. Which of course they weren’t.

  13. Good game, good win but some bad points…

Should have been a penalty for Lasley’s assault on AM and the fact AM may be out for a long spell is a nightmare

We played some good stuff though and could easily have scored a few more.

VVD and Efe look to be building a good partnership at the back, long may that continue.

Just catching up with Sunderland game, Lads should have been at least 2 up at half time, great save from De Gea from a Giaccherini header. Hoping for the 1st win of the season..

I am sure I was on this thread a couple of days back! Celtic go top that is the good news. Adam’s injury, that is the not so good news. Will need to play one of our younger players if out for any length of time. Good all round performance, and top of the league going into an International break. Looking a bit more consistent in the league this season, which should help us in our European games.
