Time for expensive signings, the 1254125 10k

1606

Motherwell travel to Celtic Park tomorrow on a mission.  A win would see them draw level with Celtic, and after a physically and mentally draining Champions League midweek game, they will fancy their chances.  Inverness remain top of the league on goal difference, but this is the third consecutive season Motherwell have tucked in below Celtic.  They will not finish above Celtic, of course, but this is likely to be our toughest test of the season.

As well as the result, there should be other objectives from tomorrow’s game.  We are eight games into our European campaign but our two most expensive summer signings, Teemu Pukki and Derk Boerrigter, and still to settle into the team.  Both should start against Motherwell.

For reasons you know too well, I thought it would be a good idea to do the Great Scottish Run on Sunday in aid of 1254125.  I have (just) setup a Mydonate page, if you have been unable to participate in any event so far, you can do so online now.

Many thanks for your support.

Tribute to a true Celtic legend By: Newsroom Staff on 05 Oct, 2013 15:01

IN a glittering Celtic career, Billy McNeill won nine League Championships, seven Scottish Cups, six League Cups and was capped 23 times by Scotland.

To mark this contribution, a Tribute Dinner is being held in the great man’s name at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow on Friday, November 15.

With over 25 years’ service as both player and manager, ´Cesar´ is an icon of our club, and a true example to our players and supporters of what it means to represent Celtic Football Club.

The Billy McNeill Tribute Dinner has been organised by the Billy McNeill Tribute Committee with the assistance of Celtic Football Club with all proceeds going to Billy.

Lord Willie Haughey OBE of the organising committee said: “Myself and the Tribute Committee are extremely proud to be involved with this event, which will pay tribute to a true great of Scottish Football.

“Billy is widely revered for being the greatest Celtic captain ever, and, of course, for being the first British player to lift the European Cup, but first and foremost he’s simply a great person, and one I’m proud to know, and that’s the reason this event is taking place.

“Our aim here is to stage a night which is fitting for such a figure, and one which we’re confident will do the great man justice.”

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell added: “Billy is one of the most important figures in Celtic’s illustrious history, a true Celtic great, someone who has served the Club with real distinction and dignity over so many years and a man who is still a major part of Celtic.

“It is fantastic that Billy will be honoured in this way and the Club is delighted to support the efforts of the Tribute Committee to ensure that his evening will be one to remember.”

It is sure to be a great night of entertainment and celebration when Celtic supporters turn out to honour a true legend who continues to proudly represent the club around the world.

  4. Can anyone help?

I’m trying to trace footage of us v Deid club, when we were not awarded anything, when Di Canio turned Gough, was brought down, got up was then felled by the flying pig, got up then was brought down for a third time, this time by Gough again, all in the space of about 5 seconds. Obviously an honest mistake as we were awarded nothing.

    Anyone?

Correct on two counts – Novo (spit!) is a former Rangers player; Rangers are a former football club.

Lasley would have been my favourite to do one of our players today and Brines would have been favourite as the MIB most likely to let him away with it.

Still, after the hooha over Broonie’s wee peck at Naymar, no doubt Lasleys assault with intent will be headline news.

    Won’t it?

  18. One of these days Big Virgil is going to score the goal of the season with one of his runs from deep, he has deceptive pace combined with awesome strength and plenty skill it seems opponents cant keep up with him or just bounce of him,we definetley have got a winner here along with his partner Efe who is also superb,a great pairing at the back as I have seen

  19. Have to say that I’m a little surprised that the blog

Lasley needs sorted out the next time we visit Fir Park.

Our players should take it in turns to give him a sore one.

Agree with you 100%. One of our players should take a yellow for the team and sort him oot……

  21. Joe Filippis Haircut on

I cant believe you Bhoys we were say Broonie was stupid through the week for his wee fly kick at Neymar as it may well have cost us a point. Now your saying our players should sort out another player and earn a card for it.Well I hope we are wiser than that it is not the Celtic way lets just go out and trounce them that will hurt everyone including there horrible fans. H.H.

  22. Really enjoyed that today.

When did we last have a centre back pairing as good as Efe and Virgil?

Virgil is different class compared to Kelvin Wilson. What a great piece of business.

The hard bit might be holding on to the two of them.

    We are a selling club.

  24. Marrakesh Express on

Virgil possesses something all great players have, great balance.

    Larsson was blessed with it.

The big Dutch guy looks like our best CH since Paul Elliott.

  25. I too cannot get my head round Lasley, I understand and get Brines though.Hope Matthews recovers quickly, as for retribution I suggest we re-sign Bobo in January on a specific missionm that would allow our players to go unpunished by the MIB`s.

Always delighted to beat the Mini Huns from down the road.

  26. I was comparing Virgil with George Connelly today. He reads the game so well and has composure and can play a pass and go forward with confidence.

I have George Connelly in my all time best eleven so I am delighted that we have a young player with such promise.

Just let him develop over the next year and then give him a ten year contract.

  27. Philbhoy

In Virgil’s case it does seem a bit inevitable, but let’s not worry about that just now. Let’s just enjoy the pleasure of watching quality players in a Celtic shirt.

  28. Marrakesh Express, he compares well with Paul Elliot, reminded me of Alan Stubbs, a bit pacier mind.

They look like a great pairing. They also give another option in attack, both made runs forward, which Charlie covered very well, so the defence was never exposed at all.
