Time for our other two international strikers

548

10 September 2016.  Five years ago today you were almost certainly worried about the absence of Leigh Griffiths ahead of Newco visiting Celtic Park that day.  In the previous season, Leigh scored 31 league goals in 32 starts and two substitute appearances, he was on fire and the indisputable top striker in the country.  No one in Scottish football has scored at this rate since.

When he was next available for selection four games later, there was a new sheriff in town.  Moussa Dembele used those games to make sure he became indispensable to Brendan Rodger’s Celtic.  From then on, Leigh, still only 26, would be used as filler.

The prospect of a month without Kyogo Furuhashi is not the news Ange Postecoglou wanted.  Pittodrie, where we visit at the start of next month, will be testing, as will the game in Seville against Real Betis and the home tie against Bayer Leverkusen this month.  We have two other international strikers at the club, it is time for one of them to step up.

“A general feeling of discomfort, or unease whose exact cause is difficult to identify.”

Surely sums up supporters feeling tonight.

Dom McKay spoke in his opening presser about his plans to learn from other European club structures to ensure Celtic is world class in every facet on the club. Ange told us in August that he had to park conversations with Dom McKay to focus on the immediate games after Euro qualifiers/ transfer window closed.

DD/PL/IB knew Dom McKay had a lack of experience in football but appointed him anyway. Therefore they would have been expected to support him in his learning curve.

On the face of it, Dom McKay was ambitious and wanted to put his stamp on the club structures going forward. I doubt he didn’t have the skills/abilities to do this. Rather, all points to a differing of opinions on how the club should move going forward. In that case, there was always going to be one winner if McKay was unwilling to toe the line with DD/board own visions for the club.

Does anyone expect this board to deliver on modernising the club? Something they should have done in 2012. Now briefing against Dom McKay tonight through their usual lapdogs in the press. Pathetic!

  4. Unless there are genuine personal reason for don’s departure (which I doubt), then his appointment is a bad reflection on the boards capabilities regardless of reason for his departure. It was incompetent to employ dom if he could no deliver the changes needed and following that worse still if they did not trust him enough to allow him to follow his vision.

It is about time the absentee landlord turned his attention to the complete shiteshow that is celtic at this time and used some of that business acumen to sort this out and to put us on the correct path. If he is not interested he should be looking to get someone in who gives a fuck

If we go on to win the league this will quickly become a footnote in our history. A who cares moment.

If we bomb Dom will become a living martyr, the saviour pushed out by self-serving parasites. A focal point around whom to rally the anti-Board sentiment. Which will be off the scale in that circumstance.

Like almost everyone I don’t know if Dom was a star or a bluffer. But I am interested to see some of the spinning against him on here and elsewhere. And I don’t trust a word of it or its sources.

  6. ahh! Either he was the wrong man and the Board made a massive error of judgement in appointing him.

Or he was the right man and the Board made a massive error of judgement in sacking him.

Something made me hold off, happy that I’ve renewed my support for the club with money up front . I was however mindful the club kept the ‘Pass for Paradise’ open.

I’ll login tomorrow, gobsmacked at the latest developments where I believe push was before jump.

Stay safe, glad you’re all well

    ……………….

    Thank you BSR.

I renewed my season ticket too and HCTS. I’m very disappointed in the way things have turned out but COVID has been a disaster for everyone. I’ve decided to minimise risk for my family and acquaintances until we are able to assert some sort of meaningful headway over the virus. I’m heartened by the progress that has been made to date and hope that I can return at some point.

I’ll watch the game on my iPad tomorrow. I too believe Dom was pushed for whatever reason. Very disappointing development.

    Take care.

  12. Maybe the, in waiting, new majority shareholder is not to the liking of Dom, or, perhaps the “in waiting” new majority shareholder doesn’t like Dom and has someone else in mind for the job, or, perhaps it’s nothing like this at all, por cierto

    We are agreed for once.

Knowing the guy and having seen him operate I have no doubt he was the right guy.

Sadly it seems the job the owners ( main shareholders ) wanted done wasn’t the one for the right guy.

Although I crossed swords as much with him as I actually exchanged pleasantries I do think with the right football knowledge around him he would have delivered what many on here crave.

I am not sure that was the owners agenda though.

Short/med and long planning(succession) of our owners shareholding plans for our club would be helpful.

Dermot is our owner.you and I both know that.

Nothing material in our club occurs without his say.

‘Personal reasons’ is proven as the phrase with the most wriggle room. Hence, obv, the one with the most speculative and personal bias confirmation potential.

Sure appears like a deflating derailment of the vaunted modernisation plan. Has Ange now lost his key ally?

He’s the guy who re-shaped the egg-balls antiquated ruling body, but was around us for about 3+months (given his early start) and hardly managed to start it, let alone finish it.

Has Dom created a Harkins-shaped hole to fill ?

  17. A Celtic board that left Lennon in charge for months too long, a board that waited for months on Howe, a board that has lost a CEO after a few months.

We may win this league but it’s clear our board are incompetent.

I’d pretty much given up on Ajeti and am inclined to think he’s been an awful signing. But the way he harried the St Mirren defender with just minutes to go while we were 5-0 up then burst through to create the 6th goal showed a willingness, a determination and a relentlessness that had the stamp of Ange all over it.

If indeed he has trimmed himself down, can buy into what Ange is trying to do and provide a clinical touch in front of goal he will be like, to borrow an overused phrase, a new signing.

  19. Devil’s advocate here before anyone jumps down my throat but it wasn’t long ago people were angry with our slow moves in the transfer market, a continued lack of communication that hadn’t improved since McKay came in and Ange being sold short for the CL qualifiers.

There were then reports that DD was going to step in to start overseeing transfers.

Is it possible that actually, DM really wasn’t up to it?
