Timely boost as Mackay-Steven signs pre-contract

1749

Delighted we have made the pre-contract signing of Gary Mackay-Steven.  Gary signed for Dundee United from Airdrie in 2011 as a 20-year-old and soon became a popular figure for United fans.  He has been one of several members of Jackie McNamara’s squad who has attracted attention this season and will be a loss to the former Celtic defender.

It’s all about the system

Gary is left-footed but can play on either side of the 3-behind-the-striker Ronny Deila likes to deploy.  He is industrious and has a bag of tricks that makes for a good highlights video on YouTube.

I watched him turn it on against Dundee on New Years’ Day, and fondly recall a virtuoso Scottish Cup performance at Ibrox, but I’m always reluctant to offer a recommendation on a player we’ve only seen against Celtic, or in the odd TV game.  The most encouraging part of this deal is that Celtic will have watched the player literally dozens of times – we want to get our first choice players, and we don’t want to be dependent on the recommendation of a foreign-based acquaintance.

United may consider cashing-in on the player this month, but I’m sure it won’t be for the £80k Sheffield United offered earlier this week.

This will be a timely boost ahead of tomorrow’s important game against Hamilton Accies, who I’ve watched a fair bit of this season.  They are a far better team than we thought they were went they left Celtic Park with a win in October, while their pitch provides a different challenge.

It’s as game I expect us to win but I’ll be happy when the result is in the bag.

Many thanks to everyone who booked tickets for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Night on Friday 13 March at the Kerrydale suite.  You can book at the bottom of this page, or email me if you’d like to hold a ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com .

The event has been live for less than 24 hours and we are already well on the way to funding the school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals.

Good on you, I always look out for your posts.

My principles, interfere and direct me against this game ( or any future encounter ) and that is where some true Celtic supporters are conflicted.

I cherish the notion that a Celtic supporter will support Celtic regardless of circumstance, and accept it as the essence and epitomy of Celtic.

However, I believe my brother, mother, father and grandfather missed the end of the game in respect of ‘The Rangers Story’ but endured a lifetime of supporting Celtic, in circumstances they shouldn’t have. They should have seen Celtic on equal terms, with every other club.

So as an individual tribute, if you like to my family, I don’t plan to see the offspring of the club that still violates Scottish football and society.

It’s a difficult call, but I stop short at blaming Celtic, fot having to contest with the new club or for having contributed in some way to their existence.

I will of course remain a Celtic supporter regardless and outwith the new club, because of what their predecessors did.

re your earlier Bellers pic on his knees in front of the hun hordes after scoring against them at ipox.

He sank to his knees still well inside the box and yet was still booked for doing so!!!

Still annoys me that the MIB (cant mind who he was) was able to do that and nothing could be done about it.

The wee man was brilliant that day and ran them ragged. Had he not been focred off with an injury I reckon we would have destroyed them and he could well have scored a hat-Trick that day!

Was a very nervy last few mins after that big dumplin Thompson scored for them though!

But we still beat them that day!

Sorry to hear about your pal,Willie. We all have friends whose opinions aren’t our own,and that can be maddening at times.

  6. The STV version of the News made no mention of a riotous demonstration outside you know where. Perhaps they had no reporters at the game. Madden might have told them before hand that he was calling the game off. Newco needed some cash so the game was started to help their financial situation. Do not think it will help, do you?

The Bear, aroused from Hibernation early, is a dangerous animal.

Attendance at the semi is not only dangerous. It is also foolhardy and legitimises the corruption that is destroying the game and will take Celtic down with it.

Make a stand Celtic supporters and take one for the Game.

    That would really take courage.

  8. Micktt,

Just to match your cynicism, was Madden given the nod to cancel the game before the 54th minute to avoid even more embarrassment and an unaffordable fine?

there were alot of us in the top tier of the broomloan watching through gaps in our fingers and looking at back of the stand hoping they wouldnt manage to sneak one at the death!

I remember hanging oot the window of the car as we drove slowly along the M8 just above the start of paisley road west (i think….just before the M8 goes over the Kingston Bridge) giving it laldy to the huns walking below.

To this day I do not understand why Craig Bellamy was booked, if it was for blessing himself the referee should be in front of a judge, if it was for scoring a goal the ref was guilty again, I am at a loss at what that yellow card was shown for……last day of the season at Fir Park I would have sent the wee bam off because he missed about 4 one on ones but that’s just me wanting my team to win

  11. BCW @ 2318,

ahhh that explains it all. Why was i even slightly surprised??

    Thanks for the clarification.

  13. Only good day I ever had at hampden was 95 cup final. Big Pierre scored and Peter the Pointer had his finest hour as a Celtic player. The rest of the night in an east Kilbride hotel with an underground nightclub was less enchanting.
