Timely boost as Mackay-Steven signs pre-contract

1749

Delighted we have made the pre-contract signing of Gary Mackay-Steven.  Gary signed for Dundee United from Airdrie in 2011 as a 20-year-old and soon became a popular figure for United fans.  He has been one of several members of Jackie McNamara’s squad who has attracted attention this season and will be a loss to the former Celtic defender.

It’s all about the system

Gary is left-footed but can play on either side of the 3-behind-the-striker Ronny Deila likes to deploy.  He is industrious and has a bag of tricks that makes for a good highlights video on YouTube.

I watched him turn it on against Dundee on New Years’ Day, and fondly recall a virtuoso Scottish Cup performance at Ibrox, but I’m always reluctant to offer a recommendation on a player we’ve only seen against Celtic, or in the odd TV game.  The most encouraging part of this deal is that Celtic will have watched the player literally dozens of times – we want to get our first choice players, and we don’t want to be dependent on the recommendation of a foreign-based acquaintance.

United may consider cashing-in on the player this month, but I’m sure it won’t be for the £80k Sheffield United offered earlier this week.

This will be a timely boost ahead of tomorrow’s important game against Hamilton Accies, who I’ve watched a fair bit of this season.  They are a far better team than we thought they were went they left Celtic Park with a win in October, while their pitch provides a different challenge.

It’s as game I expect us to win but I’ll be happy when the result is in the bag.

Many thanks to everyone who booked tickets for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Night on Friday 13 March at the Kerrydale suite.  You can book at the bottom of this page, or email me if you’d like to hold a ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com .

The event has been live for less than 24 hours and we are already well on the way to funding the school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals.

I have only been to Ibrox twice in my life, the same season, 5-1 & 4-1, McAvennie scored first and the other game Chris Morris (Roy Croppie fate) scored first as well, I vowed I would never set foot in that place again, I will pass away happy not having to avoid the hordes trying to get back to civilisation, the thing is hatred sells, it’s not PL’s fault, what do Celtic do refuse to play them ? the press love building it up, my parents used to worry sick when I followed Celtic everywhere, it wasn’t Celtic fans they worried about, by the way my 2 young nephews are going to the game, who am I to tell them not too ?

I respect you both in going to the sticky game to support our Bhoys. I am doing just that tomorrow at Hamilton. I am very uncomfortable about many aspects of this semi final. Like TGM I don’t think I would keep the cool against them if confronted. We know who gets lifted in that scenario!

I agree completley but we’ve already had a swearing incident tonight.

  9. “in light of tonight’s RIOTS” Could someone point me in the direction of reporting or proof of these riots. or is there some lazy journalism happening on this blog? is it a riot or a small number of reprobates being typical Huns. I would guess that Celtic will be asking similar questions. #dontplaythewhatabouterygameCFC.

  14. Kdc. If we have supporters at Hampden and the Huns sing their team to a victory and proceed to the final what then?

I’ll be there to support my team.

Been to Windsor Park .The Oval and Seaview following Cliftonville in the 70’s so will have no fear going to Hampden.

    Walk in the Hampden Park.

We also need plenty of wise heads .

  15. Not read back so just highlighting a wee thing I noticed, Bobby Madden stopped the game on the 18th minute to chat with the managers, then gave it another five.

Was there not to be some form of protest at 18mins.

Was Bobby making his allegiances to the crowd known….

  16. Many years ago myself and dena29 attended the n’er day game against the late, and unlamented, huns. We were coming back from visiting relatives and had to walk up the London Road amongst them. We saw a cop escorting two young lads in Celtic tops and attached ourselves to his group, the guy freaked and told us to eff off as we would attract attention. They wouldn’t touch the lads being escorted but we would be easy to nab. We had no visible colours BTW. Fear the huns no way, understand their inability to fight in odds of less than10 to 1 of course I do.

  17. When Tom English…comes out and comments on the Huns singing the bxxxx bxxx…you know the Huns are gonna get it for tonight…they will…
