Timely boost as Mackay-Steven signs pre-contract

1749

Delighted we have made the pre-contract signing of Gary Mackay-Steven.  Gary signed for Dundee United from Airdrie in 2011 as a 20-year-old and soon became a popular figure for United fans.  He has been one of several members of Jackie McNamara’s squad who has attracted attention this season and will be a loss to the former Celtic defender.

It’s all about the system

Gary is left-footed but can play on either side of the 3-behind-the-striker Ronny Deila likes to deploy.  He is industrious and has a bag of tricks that makes for a good highlights video on YouTube.

I watched him turn it on against Dundee on New Years’ Day, and fondly recall a virtuoso Scottish Cup performance at Ibrox, but I’m always reluctant to offer a recommendation on a player we’ve only seen against Celtic, or in the odd TV game.  The most encouraging part of this deal is that Celtic will have watched the player literally dozens of times – we want to get our first choice players, and we don’t want to be dependent on the recommendation of a foreign-based acquaintance.

United may consider cashing-in on the player this month, but I’m sure it won’t be for the £80k Sheffield United offered earlier this week.

This will be a timely boost ahead of tomorrow’s important game against Hamilton Accies, who I’ve watched a fair bit of this season.  They are a far better team than we thought they were went they left Celtic Park with a win in October, while their pitch provides a different challenge.

It’s as game I expect us to win but I’ll be happy when the result is in the bag.

Many thanks to everyone who booked tickets for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Night on Friday 13 March at the Kerrydale suite.  You can book at the bottom of this page, or email me if you’d like to hold a ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com .

The event has been live for less than 24 hours and we are already well on the way to funding the school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals.

  1. Wouldn’t it be great….if Celtic fans refused to go to the Semi-Final.

Why on earth would anyone even bother.

That is not Rangers, so it cant be any old firm game.

Just a new club of violent bigots called sevco.

Whats the point….why help them out?

    Let them die like Rangers.

  4. Like plenty others myself and one of my brothers had tickets for that game if we wanted them, however we chose to refuse them.

Wont even go to the boozer to watch it. Will do so in the comfort and safety of my living room.

I am fairly sure they will go on the rampage at some point. Just remember who we are dealing with.

    HAIL! HAIL!

    Agree totally with your sentiments.

As we all know, there’s nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal and who knows what will transpire in the next two weeks to aggravate an already incendiary occasion .

All it will take is for someone to be in the right place but at the wrong time and anything could happen – and we will say it was all so preventable – after the event. And who will be held responsible ?? Certainly not the ‘teflon dons’ who will stand by, tut and blame everyone else.

I can understand why players would want to compete against them, even despite their fractured history, and why the marketing and business guys would rub their hands at the financial possibilities – but I cannot understand why genuine fans would want any part of it.

Will these ‘returning’ fans reappear at CP all of a sudden – and if so, is that ‘fans’ we really need? Where were they against Morton, Hamilton, Legia, Maribor etc, ? And remember the ST prices will be hiked up again on that premise.

Personally think there is enough competition in Scotland without a resurgent Sevco and I think it will get even more competitive as the seasons progress.

I will not attend a match in which they are involved ST or no ST.

What in the name of all that is holy has Peter Lawell got to do with a match between Hearts and Sevco(Scotland) works team.

Ann Budge was quick to call out Celtic supporters for alleged misbehaviour, let’s see how she reacts to her own being assaulted by their Glasgow cousins.

Fair play, I know for a fact I don’t want my young nephews anywhere near that game but what about the Celric fans who just want to watch/support Celric ?

  13. mike in toronto on

my initial thought about the Feb 1 game was that I would have been happy never to have seen one of their kind again, and that I would avoid the game. Then, was thinking that maybe I’d watch it. tonight’s display makes me think that my initial reaction was the right one … their type will never change, and there will be trouble at the game.

Still have a lab and 4 cats but she was my first girl, after the wife of course (she might lurk), and as I said on fb my first buddy in Cork. She was a rescue dog, a gun shy gundog :-) and as daft as a sons of struth committee meeting but she was my best girl. Vet was a star too.
