Timely boost as Mackay-Steven signs pre-contract

1749

Delighted we have made the pre-contract signing of Gary Mackay-Steven.  Gary signed for Dundee United from Airdrie in 2011 as a 20-year-old and soon became a popular figure for United fans.  He has been one of several members of Jackie McNamara’s squad who has attracted attention this season and will be a loss to the former Celtic defender.

It’s all about the system

Gary is left-footed but can play on either side of the 3-behind-the-striker Ronny Deila likes to deploy.  He is industrious and has a bag of tricks that makes for a good highlights video on YouTube.

I watched him turn it on against Dundee on New Years’ Day, and fondly recall a virtuoso Scottish Cup performance at Ibrox, but I’m always reluctant to offer a recommendation on a player we’ve only seen against Celtic, or in the odd TV game.  The most encouraging part of this deal is that Celtic will have watched the player literally dozens of times – we want to get our first choice players, and we don’t want to be dependent on the recommendation of a foreign-based acquaintance.

United may consider cashing-in on the player this month, but I’m sure it won’t be for the £80k Sheffield United offered earlier this week.

This will be a timely boost ahead of tomorrow’s important game against Hamilton Accies, who I’ve watched a fair bit of this season.  They are a far better team than we thought they were went they left Celtic Park with a win in October, while their pitch provides a different challenge.

It’s as game I expect us to win but I’ll be happy when the result is in the bag.

Many thanks to everyone who booked tickets for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Night on Friday 13 March at the Kerrydale suite.  You can book at the bottom of this page, or email me if you’d like to hold a ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com .

The event has been live for less than 24 hours and we are already well on the way to funding the school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals.

Brilliant, I had a framed photograph of Chris Morris back in the late 80s, I kidded my 2 nephews (they were at primary school) that it was me playing for Celtic, I had the same dodgy highlights ! Cheers for the memories, the Maestros pass to Chris Morris in front of the old stand is still the best pass I have ever witnessed (even better we scored as well)

Delaney’s, brian wasn’t with us onthe amsterdam trip.

I gotto know brian on the lions bus. Brilliant guy is brian, great celtic fan and disliker of the sticky buns.

Brian used to work the occasional saturday and if the deidsters didn’t win, he would phone

Ssb saying he was an outraged gers fan and gave ‘ his gers’ pelters, much to the amusement of fellow lions bus members when we were on the way back from a game at paisley, motherwell or greenock

You have called it correctly,Celtic should be stating their concern for their fans in light of tonights riots, lets not forget these 2 teams have close associations yet chaos prevailed.

I will be at Hampden,as Celtic are playing,so irrespective of the unsavoury aspects of the game I expect to be able to attend, win,or lose, and return home in safety.

If spectators and innocents cannot be protected then the danger should be avoided by cancelling with Celtic declaring the risk is too large and leave the SFA/SPFL to stew in it.

We done it in the 70’s withdrawing from a game because of political aspects.

This rotten regime must enforce their own rules, and not for teams like Livingstone only.

  11. “In memory of Wallace, I see a whole army of my countrymen,

here in defiance of tyranny! You have come to fight as free men. And free man you are! What will you do without Rangers? Will you fight?” Two thousand against ten?” – “No! We will run – and live!” – “Yes!” Fight and you may die. Run and you will live at least awhile. And dying in your bed many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance, to come back here as young men and tell our enemies that they may take our Rangers but they will never take our…. Ibrox!”

  12. eddiegreenhillsbhoy,

We are going to be tarred with the same brush, when they run amok. Whataboutery will raise its ugly head. Nonsense, of course, but this is Scotland and the Establishment team we are up against. BBC Scotland has just reported about tonight’s game and gave no idea of the seriousness of what has been going on.

  13. Dallas

Yeh me and mate on first away trip to see the hoops. We thought it was a bus full students, so wrong. I remember no toilet on the bus and the thin guy with the long curly hair and full celtic strip on. I don’t remember to much of the trip apart from it was mad.

Amazing at the full time whistle, celebrating while the dodging the the missiles being launched at us.

    Great stuff.

  14. Hearts players and staff were kept inside for their own protection tonight….and people on here dont think BUDGE..will speak out…she will…she got more balls than…well she got balls…

V true. A sizable chunk of them are going with nothing but chaos and blood in mind, they’ll drive the rest in a mob mentality.

I’d personally love the celtic end to be empty that day. Let them self implode without a target
