Delighted we have made the pre-contract signing of Gary Mackay-Steven. Gary signed for Dundee United from Airdrie in 2011 as a 20-year-old and soon became a popular figure for United fans. He has been one of several members of Jackie McNamara’s squad who has attracted attention this season and will be a loss to the former Celtic defender.
It’s all about the system
Gary is left-footed but can play on either side of the 3-behind-the-striker Ronny Deila likes to deploy. He is industrious and has a bag of tricks that makes for a good highlights video on YouTube.
I watched him turn it on against Dundee on New Years’ Day, and fondly recall a virtuoso Scottish Cup performance at Ibrox, but I’m always reluctant to offer a recommendation on a player we’ve only seen against Celtic, or in the odd TV game. The most encouraging part of this deal is that Celtic will have watched the player literally dozens of times – we want to get our first choice players, and we don’t want to be dependent on the recommendation of a foreign-based acquaintance.
United may consider cashing-in on the player this month, but I’m sure it won’t be for the £80k Sheffield United offered earlier this week.
This will be a timely boost ahead of tomorrow’s important game against Hamilton Accies, who I’ve watched a fair bit of this season. They are a far better team than we thought they were went they left Celtic Park with a win in October, while their pitch provides a different challenge.
It’s as game I expect us to win but I’ll be happy when the result is in the bag.
Many thanks to everyone who booked tickets for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Night on Friday 13 March at the Kerrydale suite. You can book at the bottom of this page, or email me if you’d like to hold a ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com .
The event has been live for less than 24 hours and we are already well on the way to funding the school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals.

Very good!
Whale oil beef hooked there’s something fishy going on today.
Glad to see we’ve signed GMS on a pre-contract but I would prefer to have him signed up now. We are happy to waste millions of pounds on foreign players and foreign clubs benefit so what is wrong with spending a fraction of that money and helping a Scottish team?
TBB,
When the News channels in GB covered the Charlie story, did they show the front page of the new edition on screen?
They didn’t in Ireland.
For Cod’s sake, this plaice has gone to the frogs…
Weet weet weet, Ya beat me to it ;-)

Come on! :-)
According to an article posted on newsnow, Celtic now ranked as 4th best british team ….
“In the latest statistics released by IFFHS Celtic have retained their position in the top 40 club sides in the World. The SPL club are now ranked 31st in the standings which means that have overtaken Premier League champions Manchester City as the 4th best team from Britain.
The statistics released by IFFHS are made up via a points system in which clubs pick up points for wins or draws in their domestic and continental competitions. The number of points available is judged on how competitive the competitions are that each club has to play in. Celtic won the SPL last season which has contributed to their total points tally. The SPL isn’t ranked as high as the Premier League and that will always hold Celtic back somewhat in these rankings.
Celtic’s 31st ranking means they are now the 4th best ranked team in Britain after spending much of the past twelve months in 5th spot. Their new place now means they are only behind Arsenal (7th), Chelsea (11th), and Tottenham Hotspur (28th). Celtic are also ahead of notable teams like Manchester City, Manchester United, Everton and Liverpool.
It is no surprise that the top ten of the standings is dominated by the three big La Liga clubs. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid all make the top five but it is the Champions league holders who lead the way. Real Madrid have won the Copa del Rey, Champions league and the UEFA Super Cup in the past twelve which has helped them stay ahead of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.”
Not sure I agree with us being ahead of Man City or such (to be honest, it is absurd)… but there you go.
What chance a few honest mistakes and maybe the odd pen to them tonight?
I think Sevco will be left “Floundering” tonight….

I’d say almost a certainty … almost as certain as there being a few honest mistakes on February 1!
TTT
The BBC showed the front over via a box full of magazines coming off the press.
Neither of the ITN outlets – ITV or Channel 4 – did though as far as I’m aware.

You could get a job as a roadie!
The Battered Bunnet,
A banner with the Charlie cover on it at a match would be interesting. Would “a reasonable person” find it offensive?
What a great court case that would be.

You won,coz I never had a story

I don’t think a banner with ‘Je suis Charlie’ would be too popular a the Bigot Dome ;-)

Ibrokes is a plaice
———————————
Some huns are saying its a special plaice – battered in breadcrumbs?
SoT – Is comiso = Trapani?
Natknow – There used to be one of the main travel firms that did a charter, May – Sept to Catania from Manchester. Possibly Thomson. Visit Cefalu if you get the chance, great plaice.
Gordon
Even holding up the cover in plain sight would be sufficient in my view.
Remember, an offence is committed whether or not a person likely to be offended witnesses the behaviour in question.
It’s generally held that images of Mohammed profane Islam and are offensive Muslims (and perhaps ‘reasonable’ others). Thus the act of permitting an image to be viewed is an act likely to give rise to offence.
I wouldn’t like to have to argue the case on either side mind you.
Je suis Charlie, je ai de grandes mains et rangersitis.
Noo that mike Ashley owns the Zombie Diedco full shibang – well nearly and with today’s focus on fish can I sugges the new Sevco song to be this little ditty
Dance ti’ thy daddy-uncle-brother-son, sing ti’ thy mammy-aunty-sister-daughter,
Dance ti’ thy daddy-uncle-brother-son, ti’ thy mammy-aunty-sister-daughter sing;
Thou shall hev a fishy on a little dishy,
Thou shall hev a fishy when the boat comes in. Here’s thy mother-aunty-sister-daughter humming, Like a canny woman; Yonder comes thy fathe-uncle-brother-son, Drunk—he cannot stand.
Dance ti’ thy daddy-uncle-brother-son, sing ti’ thy mammy-aunty-sister-daughter,
Dance ti’ thy daddy-uncle-brother-son, ti’ thy mammy-aunty-sister-daughter sing;
Thou shall hev a fishy on a little dishy,
Thou shall hev a haddock when the boat comes in. Our Tommy’s always fuddling, He’s so fond of ale, But he’s kind to me, I hope he’ll never fail.
Dance ti’ thy daddy-uncle-brother-son, sing ti’ thy mammy-aunty-sister-daughter,
Dance ti’ thy daddy-uncle-brother-son, ti’ thy mammy-aunty-sister-daughter sing;
Thou shall hev a fishy on a little dishy,
I’hou shall hev a bloater when the boat comes in. I like a drop mysel’, When I can get it sly, And thou, my bonny bairn, Will lik’t as well as I.
Dance ti’ thy daddy-uncle-brother-son, sing ti’ thy mammy-aunty-sister-daughter,
Dance ti’ thy daddy-uncle-brother-son, ti’ thy mammy-aunty-sister-daughter sing;
Thou shall hev a fishy on a little dishy,
Thou shall hev a mackerel when the boat comes in. May we get a drop, Oft as we stand in need; And weel may the keel row That brings the bairns their bread.
Dance ti’ thy daddy-uncle-brother-son, sing ti’ thy mammy-aunty-sister-daughter,
Dance ti’ thy daddy-uncle-brother-son, ti’ thy mammy-aunty-sister-daughter sing;
Thou shall hev a fishy on a little dishy,
Thou shall hev a salmon when the boat comes in.

Context,mate.
There is no reason for such a banner at Celtic Park. And you know me,I’d have the 80s songbook out like a shot!

Trapani is south of Palermo.Palermo Airport is on the road to road to Trapani.Comiso Airport is in Ragusa province – near Comiso / Vittoria / Ragusa .
Yes – I like Cefalu .I have been living in Sicily since 2000.
Thanks, TBB,
Irish news channels studiously avoided showing the page and it was very obviously policy.
We have Blasphemy Laws here, which the Government has postponed addressing.
I think Pope Francis has the right idea; i.e. a persons deeply held religious views should be respected and with Freedom of Speech comes Responsibility not to provoke or offend those views.
