There is always a worry when your players go to the World Cup. Every scout on the planet watches every kick of the ball. Some will have databases, some work from spreadsheet, but most have notepads full of scribbles.
Eyes will be drawn to previously undervalued talent – you bet Iran’s players will be well researched today. Eyes are also drawn to players with little time on their contracts, which is why getting Tom Rogic signed up before the tournament was so important.
It is a truism of the game that fortunes can change quickly for players. Three months ago Dedryck Boyata struggled to find support, apart from Brendan Rodgers, who assured us he “would improve” following a difficult afternoon at Ibrox.
Today he is the defensive pivot of one of the tournament’s fancied teams. He also has one year left on his Celtic contract. There will be interest in him. Such is the market in England (on ending his Aberdeen loan spell last year James Maddison played 44 lower league games for Norwich before Leicester bought him for £24m), anything could happen.
I hope Dedryck has a great tournament and I hope he signs a new long-term contract at Celtic when he returns. But there is a lot of money sloshing around English football right now, let’s hope it all heads to Iran.
CQN Golf Annual Charity Open
This year’s CQN Open is set for Friday 29 June at the first class Aberdour Golf Club once again. It is a day of sport, entertainment, Celtic chat and is always good fun.
After the golf, we head up the road to the CQN friendly Woodside Hotel for our evening meal. FT 1-1.Aussies unlucky not to win, they were better team in 2nd half. Denmark now been outplayed twice and have 4 points. One of the more entertaining games so far.
The sfa and refs will be kacking it if VAR comes in.
If neutral (I know) people are viewing the VAR hopefully there will be no hiding place

Don’t really like the idea of aging players from the English leagues coming up in the twilight of their careers stating :- I’ve always wanted to play for Celtic.
However if John Terry was fit enough, I would make an exception. His experience at the top level, his organisational skills and his knowledge could be exactly what we need for a season.
It certainly would help us in the crucial CL games. To qualify for the group stages this season would give us a financial windfall never experienced before.

I only saw the second half and, while I thought Australia were deserving of a draw, Denmark looked the better footballers.
I presume Tom Rogic, whom I thought played quite well, ran out of steam, as he often has for us. I can’t imagine it was because of his playing, as I felt he was the only Australian with a real football brain.

At CB, I think we need experience, leadership and positioning skills before pace.
Last season we were far too open against the big sides, trying to play them at their own game and committing defensive suicide in the process.
Now I’m not a fan of him off the pitch but if we had JT we might learn to play to our strengths and not push the defensive line high up the pitch against PSG. Rodgers needs to take a leaf out of Lennons book in that regard(yes I know Utretcht etc in the earlier days).
And the benefits for KT and Ajer playing beside a guy that shows genuine leadership would be huge and maybe the clincher for me.
That and the fact the next howler from Boyata is never far away.

John Terry might be a very good signing for the SPFL and the qualification rounds of the CL but I can’t see him being able to cope with CL proper. If he can organise our defense, he will be well worth bringing in for a season, I feel, whether he has always been a fan or not. As long as he gives his best in the Hoops is my only criterion.

In CL we lack organisation and leadership at the back. When we play these games the defensive line is 20 yards deeper than in domestic football as we are the team under pressure and not in possession so teams don’t get in behind us, they play their way through us.
Whilst I agree pace is important, the above attributes are even more so in Europe. IMO.
I thought Tom Rogic showed some deft touches and passes after lurking and loping around midfield in his languid style waiting for the pass that too often never came his way.

Scott Bain arrived at Celtic Park still wearing his Hibernian tracksuit, maintaining a tradition that goes back to the 1890s, but John Terry would turn up fully kitted out in the Hoops kit, boots dubbined (ask Thomthetim) and all.
For that reason alone I would sign the big guy!

I think we played against a guy,playing for Malmo,who was 38,and absolutely outstanding.JT,as Bruce says,has kept himself fit.It’s his leadership qualities that have made him one of the greats.That and his fantastic positional sense.
No idea if any truth in it,but if helped get us to our biggest ever payday,and 8 in a row,whilst bring on the likes of Ajer,money very well spent.
