Topping’s who knew what when?

2675

In his Q&A session with the Daily Record yesterday, outgoing SPFL chairman, Ralph Topping touched on the subject of who knew what when, regarding Rangers slide into liquidation saying:

“There wasn’t one single person ever who envisaged this case happening. You tell me who pointed out that this was going to happen – did you?

“The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”

Well, in October 2011 I knew.  This CQN article from 27 October 2011 notes in very specific detail Rangers were going to liquidate, a phoenix would be created which wanted direct access to the SPL (the top flight at that time).  I got the timing wrong, predicting the phoenix would take place during the season, but to be fair, it later became clear this was Craig Whyte’s plan at the time.

Ralph Topping’s SPL knew too.  Rangers alerted them to the situation that very month.  The SPL spend November, December and January preparing the ground for Rangers administration and liquidation, a period during which a new TV deal was signed.

I think we’ll sign a centre back (sell Sviatchenko) and sign a wide right attacking player/playmaker (a Paddy replacement) who can also play through the middle. Ralston and Ajer will be first team squad players this season and will get games.

If you are on Twitter can I draw your attention to the tweets yesterday from RangersTaxCase and Barcabhoy?

It might give you an indication that you are barking up the wrong tree.

  3. In my opinion, when your going through a dodgy period in football management, one thing you don’t do is sign Kyle Lafferty, if that’s your knowledge on football players, then I’m afraid you Donald ducked.

I posted about that at the time, having seen an online article.

Sure it was about the same time as Peter Piggybank’s green boots haverings, making it even funnier!

Thought it was the kind of occupation they’d want to avoid.

    No harm in reminding people!

  9. Abusive songs about a disgusting murder are wrong and no amount of whataboutery can change that. Not only was the song vile but there is so much anger and aggression evident in the faces of that group of ‘supporters’ – anyone remember to party in Seville? Worrying times for Celtic Football Club.

Granted it sounds bad when you shout its been 5 years. Its been 5 years since Rangers went into liquidation and newco began in the bottom tier.

When Rangers liquidated we were not in possession of half as much detail then as we are now about what went on.

Even now things are still being pieced together, evidence gathered and strategy discussed. Celtic know what they’re up against here. This isn’t going away, everyone knows that including the governing bodies.

Yes — the better team won.. Neutral me liked that . England a wee bit fortunate with the weather and Philander’s illness . A wee bit of history for Mooen . Looks slower and therefore better than the last time I saw him. Surprised that South Africa struggled with the conditions -strange to see experienced professional players padding up to straight balls… South Africa didn’t look up for a scrap. .Their second innings looked like they didn’t believe they could get a draw .Assume the conditions at Manchester will be even more to England’s liking

Celtic FC can`t prevent that .

    Nobody can.

All Celtic can do is to discourage our supporters from creating an environment in Celtic Park which promotes the kind of stupidity we saw in Sunderland.

    Basically .

Cooperate or go away because you are damaging Celtic FC.

” We’ll said! Rangers (sic) have been prepared to put all their tax fiddles, rule breaking and shoddy treatment of other teams behind them and forgive themselves. Time for the rest of Scottish football to do the same and accept that Rangers (sic) are a law unto themselves.”

  19. Wooft just saw the video my mate sent me it, Celtic fans? If so banned for life, don’t need these sort of people at any of our games, easy enough to name and shame these guys, it’s there for all to see who ever they are?

Dreadful about the OAP in Sheffield collecting for Charity and being the subject of dreadful abuse.

    Ive been thinking this through.

The whole thing seems like an operation to me. Again i get back to the DUP-Tory deal. What is the DUP’s prime concern, and how many have connections with the powers that be.

I would also point to the ideological aspects of targeting Celtic. Who hates Celtic so much, that they would go to extreme lengths to smear the supporters.

    The whole thing stinks.
