Topping’s who knew what when?

2675

In his Q&A session with the Daily Record yesterday, outgoing SPFL chairman, Ralph Topping touched on the subject of who knew what when, regarding Rangers slide into liquidation saying:

“There wasn’t one single person ever who envisaged this case happening. You tell me who pointed out that this was going to happen – did you?

“The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”

Well, in October 2011 I knew.  This CQN article from 27 October 2011 notes in very specific detail Rangers were going to liquidate, a phoenix would be created which wanted direct access to the SPL (the top flight at that time).  I got the timing wrong, predicting the phoenix would take place during the season, but to be fair, it later became clear this was Craig Whyte’s plan at the time.

Ralph Topping’s SPL knew too.  Rangers alerted them to the situation that very month.  The SPL spend November, December and January preparing the ground for Rangers administration and liquidation, a period during which a new TV deal was signed.

Less than two days away from a “Shooge” (Bernie Sanders) game, and CQN seems to be mired in a merry go round of misery.

So much is riding on a result in Trondheim.

Losing out at this stage will douse the feel good factor of last season’s invincible achievement.

Certain fully paid up members of the peanut gallery will bring doubt down on Brendan’s tactics, management and compliance with the board.

Their previous focus on the board members, in particular Peter, will be honed and the old cliches and accusations will resurface.

On the footballing side, our European ambitions and reputation will be seriously harmed, perhaps irreparably.

So much is riding on Brendan getting the team choice and tactics spot on.

I believe we have the players and a manager capable of bringing home a result and guaranteeing European football till Christmas.

Even without strikers we have too much craft and guile for the Norwegian champions.

An energetic aggressive start leading to an early goal is called for, forcing Rosenborg to open up and give us space up front.

The midfield in particular has to be far less pedestrian and be more precise in passing and going forward.

That’s why I feel McGregor will get a start ahead of Oliver Ntcham and Hayes will replace Forrest .

In saying that I’ll have my rosary beads handy Wednesday night.

    Auldheid,

Firstly I am sorry if you felt I was calling your integrity into question. That’s a step much to far and I apologise unreservedly for that.

I think however your outlook on life is allowing your perception of complexity in everything to blur just how simple all of this really is. I believe that the powers that be (including Celtic) have created an illusion of complexity and that you are simply falling into that.

Let’s take some very simple things:

Res 12 – Celtic have offered absolutely no compelling reason why they aren’t pursuing this either with UEFA or legally. They just don’t want to do it.

LNS and the concept of no competitive advantage. The argument that there is no competitive advantage is patently absurd. The concept that, given a material change in circumstances (per the ebt ruling)., that the SPFL are powerless to act is also patently absurd. Their own rules were broken as were sfa rules. They just don’t want to apply them to their favoured club.

The continuity myth – nuff said!

Now the corrupt bodies can try and add as much complexity as they like but let’s turn to lennybhoys question earlier today.

    Lennybhoys you asked

“What would make you happy, satisfy you that the PLC are working to stand up for us, the Celtic Support and for the good of Scottish Football?”

You know what. All it would take, in my opinion, is for Celtic to openly express their disgust at the absurd position the authorities have got themselves into and openly state they have lost confidence in the sfa and the SPFL. That they call for a full judicial review. If the Scottish racist institutions circle the wagons and defeat Celtic then so be it. But be vocal, be angry, question everything and make their bloody lives an uncomfortable misery. Stand up for what is right and if defeated go after them all at every turn.

It would unite the support, create a cause for us to rally behind and it would lead to real change because positions wouldn’t be tenable, real scrutiny would result. There would be no hiding place for many.

The authorities are simply playing a game with us. And when it gets difficult to justify they hide behind false complexity ( we legally can’t do anything blah blah blah).

Worse than that auldheid you don’t care about title stripping? Really?

So cheating is okay for you is it? Is it just not the polite thing to talk about at parties? A bit distasteful is it?

The authorities will just fudge this so called governance review. How on earth can you trust any oft here people ( and I include the Plc in that).

You see it’s too late for the PLC now. They placed their bets with the Hun for money and now lawwell and co are up to their necks in it. They are completely compromised and can’t go back down because the ugly truth ( involvement if the 5 way agreement etc etc) would come tumbling out and then all of the Celtic support would see the naked truth.

So the die is cast. There is no going back. You will be stonewalled behind the so called web of complexity forever.

I remember I was sitting in a hotel room in Geneva when I heard the Huns had gone into administration. We knew they were in serious trouble. I was beside myself with glee. Jumping around the hotel room. That evening I was having dinner and I began to think about what happens next. And it struck me. Celtic were in serious danger here. They had to do something that they had only occasionally done (the tircolour debacle and farrygate Spring to mind). They had to,stand up to the racists and cheats, for the more I thought the more I thought that the corrupt Scotland would simply find a way to make it all go away. And so it has proven.

Every time Celtic have seriously challenged the sfa etc when their cheating was exposed they have one.

It just takes courage and a moral compass.

    Seems our Plc have neither.

I came to the conclusion around 2 years ago that Celtic were already dead. This will, slowly, kill Celtic. As radio head sang “you do it to yourself, you do, and that’s what really hurts.

Sometimes it just takes a while to realise your dead sometimes.

It’s desperately sad. The board are counting on short memories and football success to distract us all. But hey their parsimony on the field will soon take one of those away.

Tragically it was always much bigger than football this. It was about Scotland’s racism. But it seems, with the boards help, the racists will win.

    NegAnon2 on 31st July 2017 10:20 pm

Incidentally it was auldheid who said he didn’t care about title stripping.

    ==================

Perhaps a little more context would help.

My view is that as long as the aim is title stripping there is no chance whatsoever of that happening as an objective.

However if there is some serious enquiry into skulduggery, the result of which is the removal of the skull duggers then there is a good chance the titles will be stripped or the same club nonsense be put to rest. Does that make sense to you?

If it came to pass the skull duggers and culture that protects them was booted out but the titles, that everyone knows were won through cheating for some reason remained (but I cannot think of one) I’d accept that because what else could be done but to accept it?

Another JR? Another Res to Celtic to get them titles stripped? You can have that one.

I suspect most football supporters would welcome the level playing field and culture I happen to think is more important for the future of a game than removing titles of the past.

Its for a good reason the Strip The Titles guys dropped that title, not that that they have abandoned that objective they just realise it is counterproductive to their aim.

Nice of you to give me the opportunity to explain my position. I thought you would have worked it out for yourself.

    ———————————————————–

    ‘Booted out’ ??

Auldheid. You know very well that not one guilty person will get ‘booted out’. Kicked across to respectable UEFA positions like Dallas and Ogilvie maybe, but booted out’, NO.

When you call out Celtic PLC for its inaction, and call on your fellow travellers in the SFSA to demand sackings at the SPFL and SFA I will believe then that you have integrity.

  13. Those damned cheats at the SPL/SFL/SFA/RANGERSIL….

    Agreed.

Let’s skip the painful act of trying to justify the actions of some lowlifes who support this team. Doesn’t matter what the huns were up to and doesn’t matter how it’s reported.

It’s shameful, it’s embarrassing and they brought shame to the club.

  20. My prediction is that James Forrest will be, rightly, in the starting 11 tomorrow.

The appetite for his removal is stronger amongst fans than it is within his managers and team-mates.

Sad thing is that, even if he scores or has an assist or good game, he only ever buys himself a short reprieve with many fans until he is up for scapegoat selection again.

  21. Sadly, IF the Celtic support take the clear view that Celtic wont act strongly against the obvious corruption, then Celtic fc will stañd accused by the majority of the support of de stabilising g Celtic all by itself, and rightly IMO.

As I have posted last week, the price of the Celtic board NOT action g strongly, does not bear thinking about.

Cmon to feck Celtic….dont dare let yourself and the support down, what have you got to lose by speaking out ?

I also booked the Linfield game on a one month contract with virginmedia.

    Very strange billing procedure?

  23. SFTB

    Agreed.

I rate James Forrest very highly. Like all wingers ( I am sure even Jimmy J had off days) , consistency is not his strong point but he is a potent performer.
