In his Q&A session with the Daily Record yesterday, outgoing SPFL chairman, Ralph Topping touched on the subject of who knew what when, regarding Rangers slide into liquidation saying:
“There wasn’t one single person ever who envisaged this case happening. You tell me who pointed out that this was going to happen – did you?
“The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”
Well, in October 2011 I knew. This CQN article from 27 October 2011 notes in very specific detail Rangers were going to liquidate, a phoenix would be created which wanted direct access to the SPL (the top flight at that time). I got the timing wrong, predicting the phoenix would take place during the season, but to be fair, it later became clear this was Craig Whyte’s plan at the time.
Ralph Topping’s SPL knew too. Rangers alerted them to the situation that very month. The SPL spend November, December and January preparing the ground for Rangers administration and liquidation, a period during which a new TV deal was signed.

I posted the same last week.My Father brought me up supporting Celtic,but hating “The Families”.I have never trusted any Board.Proved right most of the time.I have no idea why the present Board are shooting themselves in the foot here.They should be riding the crest of a wave,team,manager,fans backing,but no,like past Boards they seem to have a death wish.The 1988 Board being the prime example.This mob outdoing their stupidity.

Interesting to see the blog so bereft of any of the great posters it once had as it decends to its position as a bastion of malcontent individuals perma posting the same old tripe about a nasty board …… Talking to each other about how bad the board is knowing they would never really have to deal with such a situation.
Not one has even suggested what they think the celtic board should do without the support of anyone else in scottish football. What course of action can they take to actually achieve a result ?
We have several who don’t even attend advocating a Boycott. How weird. The interesting thing is it appears no one else is even engaging on the blog now. The same old unproven accusations and anti celtic rubbish spouted by disenfranchised folk who can’t even get a ticket for any games themselves and who seem to hate to see celtic as successful as the currently are ? To those thinking the shareholders are somehow ‘ on the make ‘ I suggest read a few basic accounts books and look at the last 5 annual reports……
I would love just one of those suggesting Plc action on this issue to suggest exactly what that action is. What exactly should the board do to resolve the situation other than make a pathetic statement such as we hear from Sevco on a weekly basis.

These are easily the best times in terms of the football structure we have in place, since St. Martin. We attract a manager from the EPL, who in turn brings the likes of Scotty, Moussa, and Kolo. We win the Treble – unbeaten domestically. Start the season full of optimism, 53,000 tickets sold. Then bang – we implode. Then, I see that some idiots have managed to drag the Club through the dirt – why sing about such an awful thing? Can these sad people be totally disowned and told in no uncertain terms – not in my name.
I would have thot that if you know you are being cheated and you still contribute to the game that is cheating you, that would make you out to be a bit of a twat, it seems not, now where is that mind control manual ?
Great poster = unquestioning happy clapper or is it condescending walloped?

On balance , particularly at a time when a ” dissident Republican” is jailed for 18 years , perhaps the Club wishes to underline our dissociation from Republican causes and in some way attempt to repair the damage done to the reputation of Celtic by the recalcitrant G.B. and their mentors behind the scenes .
They probably take the reputation of Celtic seriously , which is more than can be said for some of our ” supporters.”
And thank God for that .
