Topping’s who knew what when?

In his Q&A session with the Daily Record yesterday, outgoing SPFL chairman, Ralph Topping touched on the subject of who knew what when, regarding Rangers slide into liquidation saying:

“There wasn’t one single person ever who envisaged this case happening. You tell me who pointed out that this was going to happen – did you?

“The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”

Well, in October 2011 I knew.  This CQN article from 27 October 2011 notes in very specific detail Rangers were going to liquidate, a phoenix would be created which wanted direct access to the SPL (the top flight at that time).  I got the timing wrong, predicting the phoenix would take place during the season, but to be fair, it later became clear this was Craig Whyte’s plan at the time.

Ralph Topping’s SPL knew too.  Rangers alerted them to the situation that very month.  The SPL spend November, December and January preparing the ground for Rangers administration and liquidation, a period during which a new TV deal was signed.

    Firstly I am sorry if you felt I was calling your integrity into question. That’s a step much to far and I apologise unreservedly for that.

     

     

    I think however your outlook on life is allowing your perception of complexity in everything to blur just how simple all of this really is. I believe that the powers that be (including Celtic) have created an illusion of complexity and that you are simply falling into that.

     

     

    Let’s take some very simple things:

     

     

    Res 12 – Celtic have offered absolutely no compelling reason why they aren’t pursuing this either with UEFA or legally. They just don’t want to do it.

     

     

    LNS and the concept of no competitive advantage. The argument that there is no competitive advantage is patently absurd. The concept that, given a material change in circumstances (per the ebt ruling)., that the SPFL are powerless to act is also patently absurd. Their own rules were broken as were sfa rules. They just don’t want to apply them to their favoured club.

     

     

    The continuity myth – nuff said!

     

     

    Now the corrupt bodies can try and add as much complexity as they like but let’s turn to lennybhoys question earlier today.

    “What would make you happy, satisfy you that the PLC are working to stand up for us, the Celtic Support and for the good of Scottish Football?”

     

     

    You know what. All it would take, in my opinion, is for Celtic to openly express their disgust at the absurd position the authorities have got themselves into and openly state they have lost confidence in the sfa and the SPFL. That they call for a full judicial review. If the Scottish racist institutions circle the wagons and defeat Celtic then so be it. But be vocal, be angry, question everything and make their bloody lives an uncomfortable misery. Stand up for what is right and if defeated go after them all at every turn.

     

     

    It would unite the support, create a cause for us to rally behind and it would lead to real change because positions wouldn’t be tenable, real scrutiny would result. There would be no hiding place for many.

     

     

    The authorities are simply playing a game with us. And when it gets difficult to justify they hide behind false complexity ( we legally can’t do anything blah blah blah).

     

     

    Worse than that auldheid you don’t care about title stripping? Really?

     

     

    So cheating is okay for you is it? Is it just not the polite thing to talk about at parties? A bit distasteful is it?

     

     

    The authorities will just fudge this so called governance review. How on earth can you trust any oft here people ( and I include the Plc in that).

     

     

    You see it’s too late for the PLC now. They placed their bets with the Hun for money and now lawwell and co are up to their necks in it. They are completely compromised and can’t go back down because the ugly truth ( involvement if the 5 way agreement etc etc) would come tumbling out and then all of the Celtic support would see the naked truth.

     

     

    So the die is cast. There is no going back. You will be stonewalled behind the so called web of complexity forever.

     

     

    I remember I was sitting in a hotel room in Geneva when I heard the Huns had gone into administration. We knew they were in serious trouble. I was beside myself with glee. Jumping around the hotel room. That evening I was having dinner and I began to think about what happens next. And it struck me. Celtic were in serious danger here. They had to do something that they had only occasionally done (the tircolour debacle and farrygate Spring to mind). They had to,stand up to the racists and cheats, for the more I thought the more I thought that the corrupt Scotland would simply find a way to make it all go away. And so it has proven.

     

     

    Every time Celtic have seriously challenged the sfa etc when their cheating was exposed they have one.

     

     

    It just takes courage and a moral compass.

     

     

    Seems our Plc have neither.

     

     

    I came to the conclusion around 2 years ago that Celtic were already dead. This will, slowly, kill Celtic. As radio head sang “you do it to yourself, you do, and that’s what really hurts.

     

     

    Sometimes it just takes a while to realise your dead sometimes.

     

     

    It’s desperately sad. The board are counting on short memories and football success to distract us all. But hey their parsimony on the field will soon take one of those away.

     

     

    Tragically it was always much bigger than football this. It was about Scotland’s racism. But it seems, with the boards help, the racists will win.

    Think that was yet another wee dig at our host, or if you are taking about CQN in general I think you are way off the mark, I always type in here about my family & friends, I can assure you through the Res12 bhoys and other posters CQN is asking plenty of questions, again if it wasn’t for P67 where would you be remonstrating your displeasure ? Or are you doing stuff we don’t know about the cheating ???

    Now I don’t trust the blazers in the Hampden bunker as far as I could throw them. However I don’t know how they could practically arrange for all these home draws given the event is televised and a number of ex-Celts, not to mention a merry Rod Stewart have taken part.

     

     

    So a cautionary note.

     

     

    In the Scottish Cup from March 1966 to January 1975, we were drawn at home in 20 of 24 ties. Indeed, from March 1966 to February 1973 we never played a Scottish Cup tie outside Glasgow having been drawn away only twice and the opposition being Partick Thistle and Clyde (we drew both these matches!).

     

     

    Also, from March 1969 to February 1973 we were drawn at home in 11 consecutive ties.

     

     

    So, it can happen.

     

     

    Live TV coverage is of course a different matter.

     

     

    Anyway, I trust the powers that be at Celtic Park are working on our battle plan and fulsome response to the nonsense we have been subjected to in the last week – and over the course of these past few years.

    I want what you want, I live in hope, time may have dragged on, too much time but I think Celtic will make a stance, time will tell if I or you are correct.

    Not sure if this part of your reply is directed at me and something you think I either posted or inferred. I don’t recollect posting that I didn’t care about title stripping, if I did I stand corrected. If you took the inference that I think title stripping or cheating is okay let me clarify.

     

    Cheating is not okay and the liquidated club did cheat for more years than I can count. A full juidicial review is the only way forward. The judicial review should decide on what sanctions should be handed down. All of that said, in my personal opinion the titles should be stripped, an asterisks placed in the record books for every trophy they cheated us and other Clubs out of.

     

    As I say I believe Celtic will come out fighting and I hope I am right and that you are wrong.

     

    Again on a personal level I would love it to see detractors like yourself know that Celtic are prepared to stand up to the cheating deidco and to the establishment.

     

    Not having a pop at you, I was just curious what would make you happy, thanks for replying.

    Does anyone care to hazard a guess on the consequences of Celtic making a statement criticizing the cheating, the continuity myth and the corruption at the higher echelons of football governance in Scotland?

     

    Would we risk punishment and sanctions from the SFA or SPFL?

     

    UEFA?

     

    Is calling for a judicial review with specific guidelines the first step in a schism in Scottish football?

     

    What are the risks and rewards in calling for wholesale clean up of the Augean stables?

    I think it’s incredible that there should be any calls for a review, The SFA And The SPFL are refusing to accept a judgement from the highest court in the land and are also refusing to apply their own rules regarding illegal registration and payment of players.

     

     

    I can’t think of a country in the world apart from Scotland where this would take place in a sporting context.

     

     

    Just shows how far and wide and how deep and how long the corruption is..

    When a judicial review was first mooted I said the self same thing, they will ignore it, they are a law unto themselfs, they have ignored the SC judgement cos it didn’t suit them.

     

    A fan funded judicial review IMO is throwing your hard earned down the drain.

     

    What will a review tell us that we don’t already know, they cheated, the sfa and the spl colluded with them, RC Ogilvie is as bent as a nine bob note, I could go on and on and on, of course they will ignore it.

     

    The highest court in the land have confirmed they cheated HMRC and all of scottish football, END OF.

  18. That’s what I was wondering Gerry. I’m assuming video evidence has been used? How can you choose who is banned without evidence? Is anyone still banned assumed guilty? Bit of a strange outcome . Have the ‘guilty’ fans been informed they’re still banned and told why? Very odd

    In a nutshell, I don’t. However, an independent judicial review must carry some weight, although I am unsure if their findings can be actioned as I am no legal expert.

     

    I would add and agree with you that the establishment thus far has put the metaphoric two fingers up to us and the other Clubs in response to the highest Court in the land but it is now a part of history, the highest Court in the land has found them to be cheats. I cannot predict the outcome of judicial review but if they found them guilty and the establishment was complicit, it would be very hard for them to hide.

     

    The biggest problem could be in funding the judicial review, we may be asked to stump up, I for one will.

  22. I’ve already gave my opinion re the GB, that being they need to toe the line on pyros and ‘ non PC banners’

     

     

    Can’t see how this latest statement makes sense though? The board need to clarify how many still banned and more importantly… why? Evidence based? Geographically chosen based on seat position? Intelligence? Guilty by association?

     

     

    How was this decision reached? Curious….

    Big brother is always watching, Celtic know who the GB are, they’ve even told Police Scoddland (alledgedly) the fact our board didn’t not allow around 820 fans into the Rosenborg game is a disgrace and this statement is the proof they knew who they were “nor allowing” into the stadium…. I think the PLC are starting to realise they might be on the same wavelength as UEFA but miles apart from the fans

    I agree that Regan and Doncaster have played fast and loose with their treatment of the establishment club and its loutish fan base.

     

    What concerns me is knowing if there are consequences to the board acting to call out the associations?

     

    Is there anything in the rule book that forbids member clubs from taking any actions which would bring the association into disrepute?

     

    Could they sanction us?

     

    Deduct points?

     

    Impose fines?

     

    If there is then I would like to know the full extent of the risk involved.

     

    is there the prospect of a pyrrhic victory?

    didn’t someone post the other day that’s exactly what Rangers did about the transfer ban, they took the SFA to court and the court ruled that the SFA had overstepped the mark..
