Topping’s who knew what when?

2675

In his Q&A session with the Daily Record yesterday, outgoing SPFL chairman, Ralph Topping touched on the subject of who knew what when, regarding Rangers slide into liquidation saying:

“There wasn’t one single person ever who envisaged this case happening. You tell me who pointed out that this was going to happen – did you?

“The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”

Well, in October 2011 I knew.  This CQN article from 27 October 2011 notes in very specific detail Rangers were going to liquidate, a phoenix would be created which wanted direct access to the SPL (the top flight at that time).  I got the timing wrong, predicting the phoenix would take place during the season, but to be fair, it later became clear this was Craig Whyte’s plan at the time.

Ralph Topping’s SPL knew too.  Rangers alerted them to the situation that very month.  The SPL spend November, December and January preparing the ground for Rangers administration and liquidation, a period during which a new TV deal was signed.

Suggest you read the headlines in The Sheffield Star, don’t know how to post the article.

If Celtic fans had been accused of this it would be all over the Scottish Press.

  2. Talking about ‘Airdrie’

February 2000, (the darkness before the dawn).

“Airdrie’s problems deepened yesterday when Rangers froze the struggling club’s share of the gate receipts for Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie at Dundee United. The Ibrox chairman David Murray applied for an interdict on behalf of his company Carnegie for a £30,000 debt owed by Airdrie”

Quite right! Can’t have people not paying their creditors, can we?

  3. Aw, stop it!

Mr Murray said: “I feel very sorry for Airdrie and their supporters but we’re running a business. We have given them repeated warnings and felt they were playing on our good nature.”

Meanwhile, the Karma guy was taking notes.

  4. TGM

I’ll add something else to the complexity and detail point.

Not all information materialises out of thin air at the same time.

What is thought to be true at one point can change at a later point.

Res12 experienced this because at the outset the evidence suggested UEFA had been told porkies at June 2011. There was the hope that the granting at 31st March could be challenged but right up to last June there was nothing to press that case.

The UEFA response however explained away the consequences of any porkies in June but what happened in the Giannina case that was pointed to by a poster for analysis changed the tactic to checking the granting.

What came out in CW trial only confirmed in public what was by then already known. The info had been noticed at the beginning but the significance only realised, that is made real, after June 16.

What I’m saying is not that everything takes time but that time is when everything takes happens in. I remember a line from an SF movie.

“Time has a purpose you know, it stops everything happening all at once”

We are prisoners of time and it’s impatience that makes us so.

Patience unlocks the prison. It’s not about waiting. It’s about doing the right thing moment from moment in the belief that if it is the right thing then the result is already assured.

What is the right thing? Well we are told love is right. Not romantic love but love of the right thing.

It’s no mistake that Corinthians 13 starts defining love as being first of all patient.

And as I often say infinite patience produces immediate results.

Impatience caused by uninformed judgements that dont wait to be informed is probably the bane of mankind.

Learning the value of patience is probably the best lesson all this is teaching me.

I share that view because someone reading might say perhaps I’m too impatient or perhaps what I’m thinking is true isn’t true because the truth is still on its way.

The problem I suspect is with the “settlement terms” and implied or stated “immunities” that are in the 5 way agreement details.

Of course none of us know what it actually says – but the John James “draft” copy of a few days ago gives us an insight into what it was going to say at one point until Green threw his toys out of the pram (possibly under the advice of Jabba).

So title stripping – or any other retrospective punishment – could just be the key to future endless litigation and the possibility that everything would come crashing down. Now we might welcome that crash – but I imagine that there are an awful lot of people who will fight tooth and nail to avoid that possibility.

The right thing is establishing if there is a case to answer then how best to prosecute it if there is…’

So Celtic are conducting some kind of a ‘review’ to identify grounds to ‘prosecute’ the individuals or organisations that have allegedly cheated the Scottish footballing public?

In the meantime we have no statement. Our Chief Executive is working hand in glove with many of those that have cheated our club the sport and the public?

Does anyone know who is conducting this review? It’s timeline? Terms of Reference?

Maybe Rangers Media did us a favour last Monday?

Are we being treated as complete mugs here?

Sorry to address these questions to you but you are the only one willing to take this on. I can understand why but don’t let them use you as an Aunt Sally.

    TET,

Thanks. I posted about the Imperial Bears site earlier. Nasty stuff and must be getting help from somewhere.

I read that the brave lad from Sunderland got home. Fair play for not running but he was very lucky.

I watched that whole set up on You Tube. A red Mercedes car arrives just before the lads with 2 people inside. There were EDL types waiting and the guy with the blue baseball cap who committed the assault pulled the weapon from someone else an hit the lad. He throws the bat away, into the yard behind him and cooly walks away.

    There was an agenda there.

    All very sinister.

  11. From the BBc site:

“Captain Scott Brown remains hopeful that Leigh Griffiths will be fit to face Rosenborg but thinks Celtic have plenty others who can score goals.

Brendan Rodgers’ side were without Griffiths and fellow striker Moussa Dembele as they drew 0-0 in the first leg of their Champions League tie.

But the Scot is free of suspension for the return leg of the qualifier.”

    Cheerio for now.

FOLLOWING recent safety issues in relation to the Club’s matches against Heart of Midlothian and Linfield and the subsequent two-match closure being announced, Celtic has today confirmed that the majority of Season Ticket holders who occupy the front section of the Rail Seating area at Celtic Park will be able to re-enter the section after August 5, 2017.

The Club is now in the process of writing to those supporters to inform them of this decision and to confirm the control measures which are in place to allow the area to be reopened and operated safely by the Club.

We fully understand that this has been a difficult period for those affected. However, the decision was taken amidst serious safety concerns. The Club is continuing to investigate events from the matches against Hearts and Linfield and a number of fans within this area remain suspended.

Celtic will continue to liaise with these supporters as well as the relevant stadium safety authorities. Our objective is to work towards re-opening the section in full, something which can only be achieved by ensuring a safe environment which meets the requirements of the Safety Advisory Group.

Celtic is responsible for the safety of every supporter entering Celtic Park. We can never and will never compromise on safety.

When lawyers are used to defend a stance then surely it’s lawyers you need to see if that defence is solid?

As to saying nothing what if the result is there is nothing to question?

Unlike the SPFL no one knows what issues they examined. What issues Celtic need examine have already been set out in the update to shareholders so it’s not going to be a nothing to see here job without an explanation is it?

But if you don’t know what will emerge it makes sense not to raise hopes or leave yourself open to its a fit up accusation is it not? Damned if you do damned if you don’t.

We are all very patient but perhaps we are dealing here with individuals that are beyond patience and we are getting a message to the effect that our energies and resources are required elsewhere.

I believe if we apply ourselves honestly, natural law will take care of things.

    TET,

I saw talk about what was being planned on Twitter on here the night before.

It was virtually criminal not to have a police vehicle outside the shop. When this character Robinson was on the premises.

Maybe they wanted to send a message to the young members of the support after the Palestinian flag demo?

I saw a clip where the EDL knew exactly how many cameras the lads had passed en-route to the shop. Even the way the lad was assaulted where the guy threw away the baseball bat and walked away. It just seemed too cool.

I read on here this morning that the supporter was released yesterday from hospital.

He’s a brave lad but I was taught never to leave the main support in these away matches. I hope they learn there are some very nasty folk with sinister agendas out there.

What is the evidence that LNS considered (or was aware of the wtc) in his deliberations. If I am picking you up right, you seem to be saying that, since he addressed the ebt’s, he has covered the DOS as a similar scheme.

xcept that guilt had already been admitted for DOS/wtc but was being fought re ebt’s/btc.

Leaving wtc/DOS out allowed Sandy Bryson the wiglle room he needed. The wtc case guilt, having been established during the life of the original Rangers would have allowed for sanctions at the time, no?
