Topping’s who knew what when?

2675

In his Q&A session with the Daily Record yesterday, outgoing SPFL chairman, Ralph Topping touched on the subject of who knew what when, regarding Rangers slide into liquidation saying:

“There wasn’t one single person ever who envisaged this case happening. You tell me who pointed out that this was going to happen – did you?

“The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”

Well, in October 2011 I knew.  This CQN article from 27 October 2011 notes in very specific detail Rangers were going to liquidate, a phoenix would be created which wanted direct access to the SPL (the top flight at that time).  I got the timing wrong, predicting the phoenix would take place during the season, but to be fair, it later became clear this was Craig Whyte’s plan at the time.

Ralph Topping’s SPL knew too.  Rangers alerted them to the situation that very month.  The SPL spend November, December and January preparing the ground for Rangers administration and liquidation, a period during which a new TV deal was signed.

You asked shareholders and fans to write to Celtic when the verdict of the SC was known, I said at the time I would not be doing so, however I changed my mind so I have written to PL post SFA and SPFL statements, I felt it was the least I could do for you and the other people involved in Res 12,I am aware it is not about a single issue like Res12 but thought it the correct thing to do at this time. I have not had a reply incidentally.

Hopefully, I’ll only miss a few games. Confirmation of cancellation just received from WorldPay.com.

    “Good Evening,

Would you please confirm receipt of the message which I sent earlier this evening, via the “Contact Us” page on the Celtic TV website, informing you that I do not wish to renew my Celtic TV subscription?

According to the information given on the “My Account” page, payment is due on the 4th of August.

I’ve been a subscriber to Celtic TV since 2006, but I have reluctantly decided to take this step, as I am bitterly disappointed by the Board’s response to the evident corruption in Scottish Football, and its seeming unwillingness to recognise the genuine deep-felt feelings of anger and frustration within the Celtic support.

Please respond to confirm that you will not take payment from my **** Visa Account.

Should the Board’s position change, the I will be happy to renew my financial support from abroad.

    Regards,

There has been loads of posts calling out the board for double standards statements about the GB and rule breaking but heehaw about the cheats

Apply the rules – Celtic don’t make the rules but if the GB /Eufa rules have to be abided so does “improper registrations” paying players “off the books” by the way not paying income tax is actually criminal, VAT not criminal, but income tax breaks their Majesteys laws :-)

    North Cyprus Bhoy,

Last year, I wrote a similar letter to Cetlic, cancelling my subscription. Below is the response I received from JPT.

two things stood out for me. One, JPT says that Celtic will speak out when it is proved that Celtic have been disadvantaged. Well, there has been evidence of that for some time, but nothing has been done. Secondly, given that I had not raised the isssue of collusion, but only stated that I would not be back until Celtic, at least, spoke out on the issues, the issue of collusion is one that JPT raised. Wonder why that would be?

“Thank you for your email, it is of course very disappointing to note, in terms of Res 12 Celtic has been on this since 2011, prior to any other groups. Celtic has fully assisted the requisitioners in every way it could and continues to. In terms of the details all I can say is this, Celtic holds the principles of fair play dearly and will take action on any occasion where it is proved our Club has been disadvantaged. There has been no collusion or any efforts to assist any of our competitors in any way at any time.

Celtic work independently and only in the interests of Celtic and our supporters. This has always been the case and will continue to be.

    Best regards

    John Paul”

In the first of the Q&As organised on here with John Paul Taylor, I sent in this question:

    Same Club

“Will Celtic, as a member club, object to the SPFL official website listing a current member club, calling itself Rangers, as being founded in 1872, and having won over 100 honours, including 54 top tier titles, thus backing claims from said club that it is Scotland’s most successful, despite it being just over four years old?  If not, why not?”

    The question wasn’t answered, but. . . .

“It was reiterated that the lack of detailed answers were nothing more than the Club wanting to ensure that the content and timing of the responses to these issues were made to the appropriate people at the appropriate time.  This is to ensure that issues are effectively dealt with to provide the best outcome possible for the Club.”

The ‘appropriate’ time was generally agreed on here to be when all the court cases had come to an end. So, whenever you’re ready, John Paul!

Much as I would like to share Auldheid’s optimistic view, barring evidence to the contrary, I cannot see a just resolution in sight. The concerted actions of both the SFA and the SPFL then and now re NFA will almost certainly lead to some kind of review. The results of which will be; “Lessons have been learned”.

See this “all the other club stuff” they hate Celtic as much as the cheats, for the “neutrals” the status quo suits as they probably hate Celtic more if not as equal as the cheats, stuff the other clubs just apply the rules

Peter Lawell “we don’t make the rules we have to abide by them” the other clubs don’t care

Improper registrations 0-3 every game just stick to the rules, we don’t make the rules :-)
