Two significant goals

729

Nir Bitton’s goal was special but two goals last night were more significant.  Leigh Griffiths header for the first belied the player’s height and stature.  His scoring record with his head in recent months has been spectacular, whether darting into space to nick the ball goal-wards, as he did away to Dundee and Dundee United, or when he uses his salmon-leap to get up and stay up.

When he was at Livingston Leigh was the next hot young thing.  For whatever reason his path to the top wasn’t straight, but he’s now first choice striker at Scotland’s top club and making the most of it.

James Forrest’s goal was also full of what we want to see from him.  One-on-one with a defender, with space to run into, he did what he needed to do.  His pace took him past the defender and turned an opportunity into great chance.

Several players are finishing the season strongly.

here one for all the fans out there on this great day

10 in a row is on the agenda

Oh Willie Maley was his name,

He brought some great names to the game,

When he was the boss at Celtic Park.

Taught them how to play football,

He made the greatest of them all,

Gallagher and Quinn have left their mark.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay,

They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay,

And most of the football greats,

    Have passed through Parkhead’s gates,

All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

In ’38 there was a show,

And Glasgow was the place to go,

A model of the Tower was football’s prize.

England sent four of the best,

They didn’t meet with much success,

Because the trophy ended up in Paradise.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay,

They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay,

And most of the football greats,

    Have passed through Parkhead’s gates,

All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

    Well Coronation time was here,

Fifty three, that was the year,

Another four from England met their doom.

They said we’ll have to try again,

But like before it was in vain,

Because the Cup is in the Parkhead trophy room.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay,

They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay,

And most of the football greats,

    Have passed through Parkhead’s gates,

All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

Well fourteen years had gone and so,

To Portugal we had to go,

To play the team that Italy adored.

    Celtic went out to attack,

They won the Big Cup and they brought it back,

The first time it had been on British shores.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay,

They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay,

And most of the football greats,

    Have passed through Parkhead’s gates,

All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

Now 21 years to that day,

    With pride, it’s our Centenary,

And we’re among the honours once again.

Six million pounds the huns did spend,

But Souness found it was in vain,

Because the Celtic are the Champions again.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay,

They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay,

And most of the football greats,

    Have passed through Parkhead’s gates,

All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

    And now in 1995,

It feels good to be alive,

And we’re about to celebrate again.

The fans all cry out for Pierre,

He rises up into the air,

And brings the Scottish Cup to Paradise.

And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay,

They gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay,

And most of the football greats,

    Have passed through Parkhead’s gates,

All to play football the Glasgow Celtic way.

On a weekend break with Mrs MB and my grandson just heard that the sheep dropped points well done to Ronnie and the Bhoys, a couple of sherbets to celebrate in the crazy world of caravan parks.

  16. Congratulations to the Champions, Ronnie and the bhoys. Now let’s build for the Champions League so that there will be many more great nights at Celtic Park. But enough for now to just savour this moment of four -in-a -row.

Take care out there in the town as you celebrate tonight bhoys and ghirls.Others are not so happy as you tonight. But who cares. Hail, hail, the Champions are here.

  17. just a quick nip back on to say

  18. There is a time and place to do and say things….for me Hugh Keevins is seriously mis-guided in providing any comment on Ronny , at 4.50pm…. the very second the title is secured.

    A congratulations would of sufficed

  19. GLASGOW CELTIC CHAMPIONS…..

    Well done Everyone @ Celtic

    We do indeed stand alone.

Ronny Deila, is quite obviously the Manager of the Year. Only in this twisted World of Scottish fitba can alternatives be brought up.

Respect to Aiberdeen for putting in a Good challenge, I hope they get even better next season.
