Yesterday Uefa announced a series of revisions to the Champions League from the start of season 2018-19.
The headline initiative, which was trailed in the media for some weeks, is that the top four qualifying nations are guaranteed four entrants in the group stage. At the moment the top three nations are guaranteed three entrants each, with a fourth team entering the tournament at the play-off round. The fourth placed nation is guaranteed two in the groups, with one more team in the play-off round.
In effect, all this means is that Italy gets one more team in the tournament, while the likes of Tottenham don’t need to go through the anxiety of a play of qualifying, even if the outcome is pretty much inevitable.
How teams earn coefficient points, and how they earn money are both changing, with Celtic standing to gain more than any other team in Europe. At the moment part of each teams’ coefficient is made up of an average of their nations’ entrants over the previous five years.
This penalises Celtic more than any other team in Europe. No other country has one team in the Champions League group stage, while all other teams failed to qualify for all group stages over the previous five years. From 2018 coefficients will no longer be dependent on the performance of other teams from your national association.
There’s also a Lisbon Lions Dividend. Teams who have won the European Cup will earn four monetary coefficient points. If they have won the Champions League within the previous five years, the bonus will be 12 points, and if they were European champions earlier in the Champions League era, the bonus will be 8 points.
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Lisbon, it is astonishing that the achievement of those men is still bringing benefits to Celtic in ways no one could have dreamt of back then. I’ve said it before, but it’s impossible to overestimate what they did for Celtic. Without them, we would have been as relevant to Scottish football as Hibs.

Gap between first and second = 22 points.
Gap between second and third = 37 points
Repeat second and third — there is a mistake above in the previous post
Gap between third and fourth = 30 points.
17 from the two groups where the 4th placed team did not win a point.
Too many mis-matches.
Too many dead rubbers.

Heard stories about how difficult it is to get tickets for away games.
Everybody you talk too suggests a good contact in the ticket office is the first step.
Seemingly the same faces turn up for all the games — or nearly always the same faces.
Then suddenly on Friday night we get all the close ups of the young, young, young team down the front and the question for me is how come — how are they managing it?
Fair enough it is not a school night and they do not have to study for their upcoming St Al’s entrance exam but how are they getting tickets?
Surely PT would rather have the full money than give out all these discounted Fiver tickets?
Goooooood afternooon CQN
Now, as only Fan-a-tic, and I wanted to talk abooot potential players we could afford to lose in January, let see talk about Paul 67 article :-)
Now it’s simple for me – leave these 4 super nations that have 3 non champion teams playing in the Champions league
Europe has somewhere between 44 -51 nations dependant on how you look at it
Why don’t 32 of these nations form a real European Nations CHAMPIONS competition, whereby only champions of your leagues can compete ?????
Positive you would get interested sponsors and TV deals, again these 4 super nations wouldn’t split this revenue to keep them afloat and fund their debts
Simples :-)
Hail Hail
If Eufa were to split the current CL into two competitions who would want to play where?
1) Big Boys Money grabbing Cup —
“Big” 4 plus France / Russia / Portugal / Ukraine?
2) True European Cup — Champions only
Everyone else with 16 or 32 teams in the group stage?
My money would be on 16 so that we go straight to the QF’s in March.
Real Old School EC games and timings.
Players leaving in January, I will be gutted when KC leaves, but am afraid Brendan, as he pointed out, in his interview on Friday night … He makes the decisions
Kris Commons will always be remembered favourably in this household
By the way, I will be delighted if Kris becomes a Hibee……even if it’s just to get them back up to the Spl
Chelsea v West Brom.
Dull stoicism from WBA eventually broken by that rampaging beast Costa as he muscles his way to a thumping finish for what will be the winner.
Bewilderingly, bouffanted fanny Robbie Savage is in commentary, a thick egotist who yesterday declared Celtic no more than a championship side. We’d take 5 off that WBA collective of drones and half the EPL again.

Also watching the EPL dross, Sky must have the best marketing department in the world to make people believe the EPL is great (I realise BT are showing this game) but overall the EPL is mince (just my opinion others might differ :-)
GFTB
I have been saying the same for years. I only put Sky back on my package for LaLiga.
As they did not have El Clasico live I binned it again.
Man U and Liverpool are on today but I could not care less. Utter mince, as you say unlike my smoked haddock pancetta and peas risotto topped with a lovely poached egg. Delicious.

In Brendan we have a manager who will sign players to improve the first 11, we have plenty of players (& hopefully a few of the development squad) to fill in when needed ……
I think Scott Sinclair has been a brilliant signing…..yet after the Barca assault, Scott hasn’t been missed, (I thought he would be) a great credit has to go to Brendan for getting the players to enjoy their work and to the players for taking this opportunity, it still annoys me a lot of the same players under performed last season, but onwards and upwards
Bailly, Ambrose, Boyata, O’Connell, Bitton, Commons and Ciftci can all go in January. Add Allan and Janko of those out on loan. Get Ajer, Henderson and Christies out on loan for second half of season.
Sign one quality midfielder.
new article posted.

Your food posts are a highlight for me on here :-)
Sirloin steak (well done) in a Diane sauce with baked potato cooked in olive oil with an assortment of vegetables is the Sunday dinner here, not too extravagant just Tesco stuff, need to shop there to keep the Mrs in a job ….. I noticed your Eibar drew 0-0, I have started avoiding them since you posted you quite liked them :-)
Gary67
I think if Ciftci was to go it leaves us with on Leigh & Moussa, I think we need a 3rd – even though we have a few decent midfielders who could potentially fit in plus some youth ?
Look at young Ryan at end of last season, done exceptionally well leading the front line
I could have added Bitton to the list, although he is still in 1st team squad, the Ines I named are not
Hail Hail
I am surprised that young Scott Allen is on these lists I really think he could be a real player for us playing alongside Armstrong in due course

Not in the slightest, hence the wee smiley at the end of the post.
Like you, I’d like the Club to come out and fully support Res 12 and call them a Dead Club with only a 4 year history. I’m sure it will happen, but only when the time is right. Hopefully that will be pretty soon!
Don’t stop complaining or we will end up with a boring Blog!
