Uefa-Res 12, Craig Thomson, take a look at yourself

1052

The document from Uefa to the Resolution 12 team, which emerged online over the weekend, is genuine. The headline part of this correspondence was always going to be Uefa confirming that whatever errors or omissions on the part of Old Rangers and the SFA’s Uefa vetting process, no further action was possible as New Rangers are a “new club/new company”.

Priceless, I know, but a delightful wee surprise, though it was, the status of Newco Rangers wasn’t the purpose of Resolution 12. Res 12 was about SFA process and accountability.

There was a great deal of correspondence with media figures since the letter was produced. It’s probably worthwhile noting the chronology of correspondence:

Uefa wrote to the Res 12 team on 6 June, copying the SFA and Celtic. After this date Grant Russell at STV asked Uefa for an update and received pretty much the same information that was sent to the Res 12 guys, without the supporting “new club/new company” line.

You may be of the view that after receiving the 6 June letter, the SFA could have asked Uefa not to offer such information in future (the layers of this story are endless). We’ll never know, but the horse had already bolted.

As correspondence on Res 12 continues, the team decided not to attempt private conversations with Uefa while making correspondence public, which is why this leak didn’t come from the Res 12 team. But I’m glad it’s out. It’s the definitive and irrefutable reference point on the status of Newco Rangers, and it’s on Uefa headed notepaper.

I don’t expect I’ll be goaded about Res 12 online as often going forward.

While we’re on the subject of the SFA: Craig Thomson, take a look at yourself. You know this is not good enough.  Your decision-making this season has been atrocious. James Forrest booking, for staying several yards away from the crowd after scoring a goal, was ludicrous, capping a multitude of errors this month.

If only people at the SFA were accountable. Which brings us back to the point above.

Getting nervous about tomorrow.  So much on the line……

Definitely finishing up for the night. Had hoped the blog might have gone at least marginally more on the game tomorrow and less on the previous week. At my age even looking back a week instead of a day forward is just a waste of time…. Will engage tomorrow in my usual happy clappy style :)

  5. No need for Celtic to make any comment, they make it quite plain where their priorities are,as lifted from their social mission statement

Our key priority areas are to:

    1. Improve Health

    2. Promote Equality

    3. Encourage Learning

    4. Tackle Poverty

Our priority focus will support areas based on the need surrounding our home within the city of Glasgow in the first instance.

Thereafter, our main geographical areas of support, in order of priority are:

The North and East of Glasgow

Greater Glasgow, Inverclyde and North Lanarkshire

Scotland, Ireland and the rest of the UK

Rest of the World, with an emphasis on Asia and Africa

However, each project will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and we will always focus our attention where our efforts are best served, primarily supporting the geographical areas listed above

It’s been a successful weekend for you eh ?

Saturday defaming Celtic supporters for having an opinion; Sunday proving yourself to be a liar; Monday shamed as a bigot.

Can’t wait for tomorrow’s revelation,……….you’re not Chris Graham perchance :-)

  10. Still to find anything regarding Celtic showing Solidarity with any particular group……

Celtic will act as a medium for promoting health and well-being. Celtic will support initiatives that offer hope to those affected by the scourge of drug misuse.

Celtic will encourage positive links between the education sector and the Club through our Match Day Visit programme.

Celtic will act to expand links with Scottish schools to support learning in the areas of sport, health, social issues and personal and social development.

Celtic will act to promote positive social integration in partnership with others in schemes that bring people together to share positive values associated with the best in football.

Celtic will support schemes that seek to create bridges between different cultures and sectors of society within Ireland and Scotland.

Celtic aims to support schemes in Northern Ireland that have as their aim the building of bridges between different communities.

A very admirable sum raised indeed but when are you expecting the other 48,0000 that were at Celtic Park the the other night to watch a football match

  13. Looking forward to tomorrow’s game. Feeling nervous. Will probably increase throughout tomorrow in the build up to kick off. I’m desperate for us to qualify for the group stages and really hope we can see the tie through. I’ll leave the team selection to Brendan and hope that everyone plays to their capabilities. Read comments from Kolo’s Toure earlier on Facebook and he seemed positive, talking about how all of the players were determined to fight to win through. Fingers crossed.

I hope all of our players are fit for the game and that we can avoid injuries. I also hope that our travelling supporters enjoy themselves and don’t get caught up in any trouble with the locals.

Hail! Hail! and goodnight to all.

Are you implying that Celtic FC’s silence on the condemnation of the flag protest is indicative that they are somewhat unhappy the entire stadium didn’t join in?

That is a strange thought indeed, and one to ponder.

Thanks for the heads up on that one, it never occurred to me.

You could very well be correct and on the money here.

  18. Only a fool would be in denial to imagine that while Celtic Officials are in Israel that the matter will not be discussed with UEFA officials on what the Club can do to deal with certain groups of supporters who have consistently refused to abide with UEFA rules

    BCW…

Thank you…what impressed me was the fact that the author Amira Hass, tells the stories of ordinary people’s every-day lives…the other book that I love is Naji al-Ali’s ‘A Child in Palestine’…

A series of political cartoons featuring Hanthala, a small destitute boy, always with his back to the viewer, observing Israeli cruelty and Arab hypocrisy…very endearing. His image is on walls all over Palestine…

  21. the glorious balance sheet on

By my reckoning assuming we see out the tie in Israel and go through, this would be the first time we have qualified for the CL through a decisive qualifier where the 2nd leg was away from home.

Qualified and All 2nd legs at Celtic park-

    Ajax 2001

    Mtk Hungaria 2003

    Spartak Moscow 2007

    Helsingborg 2012

    Shakhter Karagandy 2013

    Automatically qualified for CL-

    2004

    2006

    2008

    Did not qualify-

    2002 (Basel, 2nd leg away)

    2005 (artmedia, 2nd leg home)

    2009 (arsenal, 2nd leg away)

    2010 (Braga, 2nd leg home)

2011 did not enter CL qualifiers or groups

    2014 (Maribor, 2nd leg home)

    2015 (Malmo, 2nd leg away)

It’ll be breaking new ground for Celtic to confirm CL qualification on another team’s turf in Europe. Bring it on!

  22. I’m hitting my kip. Before I go however, can I make a request of the good ghuys.Let’s keep it to the game tomorrow night and nothing else.I sense a malevolant force at work and by ignoring it and relentlessly reaffirming what we’re on the cusp of in Israel it will wither.Play smart fholks.

Coming to think of it i believe you are correct, how could all those flags have been smuggled into the ground? Especially that huge flag on the pole at the front of the Tifo?

    Underground tunnel?

Maybe it was the mythical Unseen Fenian Hand doing it sterling work again?

  25. MACJAY1 @ 11:27 PM

Well, just because an issue is complex doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be discussed, as long as it can be done in an informative and civil manner. Yet as far as your wider point regarding using a Football match as a platform for this I wouldn’t disagree with your stance

Interestingly enufff I noticed the dangers you warn off in regard to Complex issues, manifest itselt on CQN t’uther day… a quality CQNer used some WWII turmoil in the Balkans to undermine the Palestinians.

He suggested the Palestinian Leadership of the time, acted as recruiting Sargents for the SS. For me it looked like he got sucked in by Lazy propaganda. It disapointed in two ways…

Firstly it failed the put the background and the Complex Balkan/Palestinian Muslim issues in any meaningful context.

Secondly it failed to state that the unit in question was a Division of the Waffen SS

By distorted implication, it associated the Palestinian Leadership and by extension the Baltic Muslims with the worse excesses of Nazi Germany.

A case of misrepresenting a Complex issue to put your agenda forward IMO…

    Hail Hail

I imagine that you see the clubs silence as a sign of support
