Likely summer signing number two, Virgil van Dijk, arrived in Glasgow this morning for a medical after terms were agreed with the player and his club, Groningen. The 6’4” player, who will be 22 next month, is a Dutch under-21 international.
Virgil is two weeks younger than Victor Wanyama and emerged into the Groningen team around the same time Victor pitched up in Glasgow, they have made almost exactly the same number of appearances for their respective clubs, 62 top flight games in total, in the case of Virgil.
62 games is an interesting figure. Enough to bed in, catch local scouts’ eyes and have well-travelled men from Glasgow watch several times before making a recommendation. Not enough to catch the eyes of less well-organised, but no less resourceful, scouts in the bottom half of the English Premier League, who Celtic now seem to compete for talent with.
If Virgil is the real deal, another couple of dozen games might have changed the competition for his signature.
Is there a 50-80 game window which can deliver sufficient evidence of a player’s talent, but not too much evidence, which evaporates the value gap? This hypothesis would be easy to test and if it holds would provide an interesting filter on the hundreds of names pushed to the club each year.

I have considered this, but getting the pins in a row is no easy, the last time I was there I got up to take a place at the mic. And before I could get near it I noted two racing me, now here’s the trick prior to me getting up the seats next to the mic had been empty for a few minutes as soon as I stood up and made my way to take a place it got ver busy very suddenly, my paranoia telles me plant, their insignificant questions told me plant, my old man told me plant expect it son.
Raising a resolution to have concerns aired looks like the best strategy, having a couple of follow up plants is a great idea to cover a were that dismiss the questions but I do actually have a wee inkling that the board want these questions raised so they are “forced” to respond to their concerned shareholders, at least I hope that’s the case.

The bit I’m forgetting is that issuing a resolution like this, gives the board time to prepare their answers, I do not want to ambush them, I want to give them as much time as possible to prepare their responses, nor do I want to hear, “we will look into that” I want prepared answers, obviously they will instil as much ambiguity as they can to protect their strategy, that is when follow up questioners will clear up issues.
I am now a seriously worried punter. Initially I found myself agreeing with some of Kojo’s posts but lately I find myself agreeing with the vast majority of them. Has Kojo got sensible or have I lost my marbles.

I both admire and support what you are doing. As I am not a shareholder I cannot give you effective support but you certainly have my support in what you are doing ( a lot of “supports” there but that is no bad thing!).
Also, forget about your perceived “unpopularity”. I am sure that the vast majority are behind you on this one whether or not they generally agree/disagree with you. Disagreement does not equal dislike.

Fair doos, but I think you’ll have a job getting a resolution together in the prescribed format with the requisite shareholder support submitted prior to the deadline. If the board don’t like your res, they’ll bounce it at the last minute and you won’t have the time to fix it. Ask the guys at the Trust how hard they had to work to get last year’s res on the agenda – took them 2 years!
In terms of AGM questions, they tend to run the Q&A until all questions have been asked. When things are good there are fewer Qs and things are pretty good atm (euro qual results notwithstanding!). I’d give it some thought.
