van Dijk signs four year deal

1571

Absolutely delighted at the arrival of Dutch under-21 international central defender, Virgil van Dijk, on a four year deal.  A central defender was one of three priorities for this summer and we have secured our first choice target.

The signing will also give a boost to the squad, and a timely reminder to all that amidst talk of player potentially leaving ‘at the right price’, the Celtic Story is one of progress.

Celtic had the tallest team in the Champions League last season.  They were also top scorers from headed goals in the competition until Bayern Munich caught them in the semi-finals.  With the addition of two 6’4” players (van Dijk and Balde) we look to be consolidating our strengths.

Welcome to Celtic, Virgil.

So if the stories are true and celtic have accepted a bid of £12.5m for victor. .. heres my tuppence worth

Must be a clause in his contract with that value in it.

Victor will talk to them to decide if its a good move for him. Playing for them in the EPL will improve him as a player and also raise his profile if he does well in a poor team ( with thg … hoiveldt .. and davis)

He may see them as another stepping stone to a major epl club or he may decide to wait for that move.

Celtic can only wait on victors decision imho

    Valentines day

Should there be a direct correlation between a players transfer fee and his wages.

If so… I think vic could expect £50k weekly

Do Celtic NEED to sell players?

Do we need to sell players NOW?

I think the answer to both these questions is NO.

We need to get through the euro- qualies and then take stock.

The money being talked about for Vic is only what we’ll make if we reach the ole group stages, the chances of which must be higher if Vic is still charging around the ole midfield.

Ive been twice. … one of the days the sun came out as I stood there

You might remember that day ;)

  6. This one will run for a wee bit yet……….

VICTOR Wanyama’s proposed move to Southampton collapsed last night after the midfielder failed to agree personal terms.

The Premiership club were given permission to open talks with the 21-year-old Kenyan after Celtic accepted a fee close to £12million.

MailSport can reveal Wanyama’s representatives were far from impressed by the deal on offer and Saints know and Saints know they will have to significantly increase the personal terms to have any hope of signing him.

We can also reveal Wanyama has a positive feeling about interest from Cardiff and hopes the Welsh club also have a bid accepted.

Malky Mackay is desperate to sign the Celtic star but his club may see a fee of around £11m as their limit. Wanyama is in no rush to leave Parkhead and won’t be forced to go unless the deal suits him.

  7. If any player is to leave this summer, whether it be Wanyama, Hooper or anyone else, then it is best for the club that they go asap once buying teams have matched the club’s valuation. Keeping players for CL qualifiers could be counter productive.

Get the money in and give the manager time to spend it on replacements. We don’t need anymore last minute deadline day panic buys/loans like Miku, Lassad, Brozek etc.

  8. Morning,

Some pathetic stuff from the msm this morning, apparently Wanyama in no rush to go and won’t be forced out the door.

He has Two years of his contract to run, I don’t think anyone at Celtic is pushing him to leave.

  9. valentinesday on

I don’t care where big Vic or anyone else

goes, no harm to them……..as long as the

club get’s the best deal possible.

  10. Morning all. Breezy down here at the moment.

    kayal33,

I doubt we could buy the equivalent of Foster, Hooper or Wanyama in time for the qualifiers. It would cost us much more to replace them with anyone with their experience.

  11. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Kayal33 – with respect the CL group stages represent a huge part of the club’ s potential income for the season, to compensate for the paltry sums raised from domestic football.

So ideally you would get both; say 15 mill from Europe + 15 mill from sale of players, as opposed to sale of players having to balance out loss of euro money.

Celtic are not strapped for cash; the timing of this will be the key.

  12. victor will be leaving we will get a good return for initial investment. he has my thanks and appreciation for what he has given us on and potentially off the field, same goes for hooper. can see fraser being about for another year

we have already invested in three young players i.e. rogic, balde, dijk, this year and a few more will surely come in as more players leave the club.

for all the board haters, get a life, before the plc the families running our club were unaccountable and our money was used to make individuals very wealthy before the ran our club into the ground

I look forward to seeing our club move forward with plans to transform our stadium and stadium envois while signing a couple of other players and telling us all what is going where etc…

    hail hail

  14. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

If we have accepted a bid of 12.5m then I dont think we will get much more for Victor. So 12.5m + more than Southampton offered in wages should see him leave and before the qaulifiers. It will be our banker should we fail to qaulify.

Continual CL participation and selling our best players is our ceiling. Some would call it our successful strategie.

While I am happy with it as it gives us a shot at the CL with realistic financial stability. I think the playing and management stuff will feel they have to move on if that ceiling does not meet their expectations.

Youth development might help keep players longer but I doubt it.

Wanyama wants to move to Liverpool apparently. Will meet other clubs as a courtesy but that’s his goal.

Eddie on CU saying this came from members of the first team squad. He originally was wanting Arsenal but they’re in for Fellaini.
