Watching players on the edge

1018

I like watching a professional perform on the edge. We watched Anthony Stokes do just that at the Cup Final, where despite two superb goals from Gary Hooper, he was clearly head and shoulders above everyone else on the field. This has not always been the way for Anthony, so has too often failed to command a starting place, and live up to the form he promised all those years ago at Falkirk.

Celtic have put a contract in front of him but it will be considerably lighter than the contract Hooper has no intentions of signing. It’s very much up to Anthony now. Deliver and the riches will follow. Don’t bet against him.

Only just catching up on the somewhat demeaning promotion of a football club hiring a new team bus. Every time I see the coach/manager at that club, buses, or to be more precise, Blakey, from On the Buses comes to mind. These people lend themselves to parody so unselfishly.

Coach/Manager

Inspector Blakey

The fascinating part is, only one of the two above was trying to be ridiculous. You enjoy another day of being a Celtic fan.

  1. A quick summary of some of the lillian published about the mighty Hoops this morning. Marks out of 10 for truth, honesty and integrity:

Hull don’t want Gary Hooper anymore and have turned their attention to Charlie Austin-0-came up with the names in the pub…

Cardiff re-enter talks with Celtic over a ‘new package’ for Victor-2-might be true but where the hell are the big boys?

Paddy wasn’t fit when he came to Celtic and couldn’t break into the team-no mark as this has been regurgitated so often a blue bottle wouldn’t be interested in it…

Kelvin Wilson was lonely when he moved to Celtic-1- seems to be true but what’s the point? poor Kelvin move your family up then big man, we’re paying you a fortune…is there any positivity out there?

Virgil’s looking forward to his first game-10- get in there big mhan!

    If only we’d bought a bus……..

  2. A bit disappointed to read how Kelvin Wilson suffered from loneliness after moving to Glasgow. Did the club learn nothing from the well documented problems endured by Stan Petrov in a similar situation?

  3. Tom

some massive differences between the two. Kelvin was 26 when he signed; spoke the language and was aware of the culture; knew some players and wasn’t too far from his family in Nottingham. I’d bet his poor start contributed greatly to the way he was feeling and not the other way around.

This was in total contrast to Stan in every regard except the way he started. Wouldn’t blame the club on this one.

I think the vast majority of CQN ignore the lilian on Celtic from the MSM, we are in the MSM silly season at the moment hence the increased level of negativity lilian for Celtic in the SMSM……..i have just wasted a post commentating on it

I think when Paddy performed it was a joy to watch, the kind of player you get excited when he gets the ball. Hope he gets regular first team football when he moves on.

  7. Top of the morning to you all from a bright and breezy Fife.

Councillor Ceffington’s car miles expenses reminds me of a Chief Constable we had in Fife.

Michael Hamilton’s mileage claims were scrutinised and it worked out that he would have had to have been on the Soyuz space station to have had as many air miles.

He had to resign, with full pension pot of course. He was from Northern Ireland.

    Wonder what happened to him?

  10. CQN Cylists Advice Please

in the building I work the companies are having a charity cycle from Oban to Glasgow Braehead, next weekend.

However, a wee thing has been missed at the planning stage – how to get the bikes to Oban in the first place.

Any of our well travelled and experienced bike riders give any recommendations ? specialist van hire ? its for 19 bikes.

    help appreciated, ta.

Blindlemonchitlin pure loves the Daily Record.

The video was good right enough.

  12. Brilliant story and video of young busker Murdo Mitchell and Donovan in Buchanan Street.

    HH!!

  13. @Blindlemonchitlin

interesting.. but why was the young bloke busking on his own but with 2 microphone stands set up?

… then Donovan walks by – and he’s got his guitar with him…

    Incredible (i.e. not credible).

  14. I had a wee trip to the darkside there and saw this intriguing headline:

    ‘Traynor grills McCoist’

dearie me, can you imagine the pool of fat left after that?

Obviously, Murdo has a spare mic and stand for the Karaoke market. Smart thinking from that lad. As for Donovan’s guitar, well, obviously again, he had been sleeping with it under his pillow and carries it with him at all times like every good itinerant minstrel will. How else can they make a living in the era of MP3?

Any way, how must young Murdo feel today? Music, you can’t beat it for moving mountains.

    Tallybhoy.

I didn’t know that, but not surprised. Roy Harper and, God bless him, John Martyn lived in the Free State too. I understand it’s to do with the encouraging of artists by not making them pay any tax. Kind of Google with better tunes, if you will.

    John Martyn?

Mrs Tally – before I met her – was his next door neighbour in deepest Lanarkshire for a couple of years in the 1980s.

They never got on – but that’s another story!

BMCUW knows the story – if we ever meet I will recount it.

Blindlemonchitilin- I got the HQ CD recently from Roy Harper’s record label[ Science Friction], which is based in Ireland.

I principally bought it for ‘When the Old Cricketer Leaves the Crease’, featuring the peerless Grimethorpe Collliery Band, but some of the other tracks are O.K.
