Week with a sting in the tail

781

The narrative was set for Aberdeen.  After six consecutive league wins without losing a goal, their bubble was burst when they drew with Dundee and St Johnstone, but it hasn’t turned out that way.  They have scored 10 and not conceded in the three league games since.  Out of the Scottish and League Cups, their entire focus is on beating teams less resourceful than them in the league, which is everyone apart from Celtic.

Despite Celtic’s impressive ability to collect points dating back several months, Aberdeen are hanging in there, a remarkable achievement.   The only thing which separates the teams are Celtic’s two 2-1 wins in their previous meetings this season.  From Saturday afternoon Aberdeen’s complete focus will be on their visit to Celtic Park on Sunday.

By contrast, Celtic will return to Glasgow early Friday morning after their trip to Milan.  They will face Aberdeen pretty much as that trip leaves them.

If I was offered a win and a defeat this week, I’d take the win in Milan, but we will need enough in te tank for Sunday’s game.

Thanks to everyone who booked a ticket over the weekend for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner on Friday on 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Anyone still to catch up, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

You must be really stinky if even the stickies smelt you. On Twitter as well!

Good. A traditional soap dodging Weedgie like myself. Must confess though I felt a tad self conscious when I arrived @ CQN Corner on Sunday to see such a big turnout of the CQN Salt n Sauce Brigade from the East in the Celtic tweeds and deerstalkers. Had Livibhoy made it there too it would have been ‘you’ll have had yer tea-tastic!’

  2. A great few weeks of football coming up for all us hoops fans…

After attending the game on Thursday I watched it again twice! I thought we dominated the second half completely and should with a little luck run out winners. Inter are playing tonight and the game is on ESPN..this may give us an advantage as they have to fly. So I am going for 1-3 and us progressing.

Re Sunday I think we will beat Aberdeen comfortably 2-0…however be mindful of the ref.

The 3 games againf united will be a real test and I expect us to win all 3..

    So there you go…5 games 5 wins…simples..

Ha! Aye. I’m a Glesga bhoy myself. I like to think I’m reasonably well groomed but it was the ‘middle class’ insult that hurt the most. :-)

My daughter tells me I shouldn’t ‘engage’ with them but it doesn’t take too long for them to lose the plot even when I’m being reasonable. Asking them if they’re in their jammies might not help though.

  8. Ex-News of the World editor Coulson faces perjury trial in Scotland

Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson has appeared in court in Scotland charged with perjury.

The former Downing Street communications director Andy Coulson will stand trial in Scotland on a charge of perjury on April 21.

The date was set following a hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday.

I liked sipsini’s response when someone stuck ‘Fenian barsteward’ on his locker at work back in the day.

He said he stuck ‘proud’ in front of it!

Takes cajones and a sense of humour to respond like that!

  13. Does anyone else think the Commons/Guidetti 4th goal celebration on Sunday was an expression of their belief that the game was like a training session?

The revived hun song book is entirely down to their participation in the Old Firm semi at hampden and tbe subsequent lack of action by the SPFL. I see the SPFL are delighted and breathing a huge sigh of relief that Lurdie choose not to mention the racist chanting

  24. Couple of (personal) thoughts on recent events.

    1. The Tricolout/ Soldiers Song comments from Clyde and Keevins were atrocious. Sycophantic pandering to the hordes. I have heard sectarian add-ons in place of ” Dublin Belfast Cork and Donegal line of ” on the one road”. But not for a long time. A plea though….if you are going to sing it FFS please make sure you know the words…been embarrassed at times.

    2. Let the people sing etc are fantastic expressions of freedom. Whilst I will argue from now till doomsday that they are not sectarian, personally I’d prefer not to hear ” go on home” ” roll of honour” etc in that arena. I think the Celtic songbook is extensive enough to ensure that all our support feel included, without them.

    3. Didn’t like the Guidetti / Commons celebration. IMHO guidetti has an over inflated ego and has a support in excess of his commitment to Celtic. He’ll be gone before long and I for one don’t like being patronised. Also, this is the club that gave wee Jay such a special day, so no need for that.
