Week with a sting in the tail

781

The narrative was set for Aberdeen.  After six consecutive league wins without losing a goal, their bubble was burst when they drew with Dundee and St Johnstone, but it hasn’t turned out that way.  They have scored 10 and not conceded in the three league games since.  Out of the Scottish and League Cups, their entire focus is on beating teams less resourceful than them in the league, which is everyone apart from Celtic.

Despite Celtic’s impressive ability to collect points dating back several months, Aberdeen are hanging in there, a remarkable achievement.   The only thing which separates the teams are Celtic’s two 2-1 wins in their previous meetings this season.  From Saturday afternoon Aberdeen’s complete focus will be on their visit to Celtic Park on Sunday.

By contrast, Celtic will return to Glasgow early Friday morning after their trip to Milan.  They will face Aberdeen pretty much as that trip leaves them.

If I was offered a win and a defeat this week, I’d take the win in Milan, but we will need enough in te tank for Sunday’s game.

Thanks to everyone who booked a ticket over the weekend for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner on Friday on 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Anyone still to catch up, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

  5. The barman in Innishannon is not bad. Bright Blue Rose is an absolutely lovely song written by another Corkman, called Jimmy McCarthy. That guy is some songwriter, wrote Ride On, No Frontiers, The Contender and a whole heap of other stuff.

Pity you can’t make it, Jamesgang would have danced you off your feet…he keeps it quiet but he’s a professional ballroom dancer.

It must cost you a fortune travelling over, cap doffed to all the supporters that make such a grand effort to watch the hoops.

I won’t make Sunday again by the looks of it, working :(

my son and daughter will be there though.

My Ghirl starts her first job on Monday, trainee accountant, chuffed to bits for her as she worked really hard at college, so no Brazen Head after the game for her :)

Watching Scott Brown play a deeper more disciplined role yesterday had me thinking he was getting ready for the task of watching Shaqiri.

Folli follow probably have a thread suggesting Kris Commons and Guidetti row the boat celebration was part 1 of a send up of Struth and his mate?

  14. Sorry to hear of the death of Pam Brighton, the English-born theatre director who was involved in giving voice to many in the north of Ireland who Britain would rather turn a deaf ear to.

Her 1996 Radio 4 drama The Sons of Molly, about the Molly Maguires, was one of the best things I’ve ever heard on the radio.

    A real loss

    James,

Fair enough, but you ought to know that songs referencing “the IRA” can be held to be unlawful under both the Terrorism Act 2000 (Proscribed Organisations) and the OBAFTC Act 2010.

    I make no further comment.

Cagliari v Inter 0-0 at half time. Inter have dominated the match and created a lot of scoring chances in first half but have been very profligate in front if goal. Should be 3 or 4 goals up. Podolski is the worst offender and has missed 3 great chances. Two headers and an amazing dribble across the 6 yard line when he could have put the ball in the net 3 times but insisted in beating two defenders and the goalie before losing possession. I’ve noticed that Guarin has had three decent efforts from about 30 yards out which he may be going to attempt on Thursday. Maybe thet think Craig Hordon is our weak link after our home tie. Vukavic who is highly rated but not trusted by Mancini is playing.

Here’s a prediction for the headlines in the sports sections of the Scottish MSM on friday. “Celtic in the dock again after fans breach UEFA rules”, or similar.

Reporters will make a point of contacting UEFA if any flares are set off, any songs sung about anything that can remotely be associated with polital expression etc.

Then over the next week or so the phone ins and sports hacks will have a field day telling this country how Celtic fans shamed the nation.
