Week with a sting in the tail

781

The narrative was set for Aberdeen.  After six consecutive league wins without losing a goal, their bubble was burst when they drew with Dundee and St Johnstone, but it hasn’t turned out that way.  They have scored 10 and not conceded in the three league games since.  Out of the Scottish and League Cups, their entire focus is on beating teams less resourceful than them in the league, which is everyone apart from Celtic.

Despite Celtic’s impressive ability to collect points dating back several months, Aberdeen are hanging in there, a remarkable achievement.   The only thing which separates the teams are Celtic’s two 2-1 wins in their previous meetings this season.  From Saturday afternoon Aberdeen’s complete focus will be on their visit to Celtic Park on Sunday.

By contrast, Celtic will return to Glasgow early Friday morning after their trip to Milan.  They will face Aberdeen pretty much as that trip leaves them.

If I was offered a win and a defeat this week, I’d take the win in Milan, but we will need enough in te tank for Sunday’s game.

Thanks to everyone who booked a ticket over the weekend for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner on Friday on 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Anyone still to catch up, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

    Tee hee.

Not just the Unseen Fenian Hand

But the old delaying banner routine. There I was thinking that thus’ display by the GB was sequential. But was one of these sneaky Timmy delayed banners!

And how to you ban a song before you get in the ground?

Actually knowing JEdgarHouse that may not be so far fetched!

Agree we cannot afford to give away cheap goals. Inter have good players. As geordie munro pointed out above, Shaqiri was missing tonight and he’s a real threat. I thought Guarin was their most effective player. Neither Campagnaro or Vidic impressed me but their defence held out against a Cagliari attack that created a lot of chances. It will be very hard. If our defence is reliable then we can win through. Going forward I think we can run the legs off Inter in the later stages of the game as someone pointed out also but it won’t be easy.

  4. Aberdeen are to be commended on how they’ve hung onto our coat tails thus far. Despite a bad loss to Dundee in the cup they’ve maintained their excellent league form to the extent that even though we’ve continued winning, we’re still not out of sight.

Nothing suggests, to me at least, that they’ll falter anytime soon, unless of course it’s against us.

For that reason I think it’s more important to win on Suday than Thursday.

Yes I know that we can afford not to win on Sunday but still clinch the title with relative ease but as the clock ticks down I think it’s imperative that we keep ourselves ahead in the race for the championship.

But by golly would I love for us to win both!!!

  5. Inter spent the early part of the 2nd half weathering the storm – breakaway and Icardi scored their second.

From then in – they were penned in and conceded on the 74th minute. Inter spent the last 15 minutes (+4) defending/ time-wasting/ running down the clock with subs.

    First time they’ve clocked-up 3 league wins in a row since 2012.

No great shakes – Cagliari had chances but couldn’t put the ball in the net.

Keevins is acting to an agenda and being paid handsomely to. Nothing inadvertent about it. He is play acting to earn a wage. He used to belt out the rebel songs in Clydebank pubs and clubs with the rest of us. He cannot enter those establishments anymore for fear of ridicule. Selling your soul is a free will choice. So sad.

If McManaman said, for example, ” Chelsea should be beating teams like this (Inter).” .We would be criticising his arrogance that he overrated the EPL team. When he says it about Celtic, we think he is belittling our achievement in only getting a draw. Why can`t we see it as him rating Celtic highly?

I didn`t see the programme where he said whatever he said and accept that his tone might have made a big difference to his intention. Is that the way it was?

What Keevins has managed to achieve, probably inadvertently, is to distract the Celtic support from the original target, those spouting racism and sectarianism on Friday night in Kircaldy.

We have the occasional daftie singing ditties which should be left in the past that could be ‘deemed’ sectarian but for a long time now our song book has thankfully been sectarian free.

You may not agree with some of those songs, you personally may even find them offensive, but that doesn’t mean any of them are sectarian.

Let’s keep the real, intended target in focus and not allow ourselves to be side tracked by devious forces.

    Let the Celtic supporters sing.

I think Shug is trying to distract others mate but I don’t think his intention was to get the Celtic support debating amongst ourselves regarding it.

I have mentioned on numerous occassions on here, and at CP when we have met, these early KO’s do ma nut in. The amount of work I have to get through before I set off is incredible. Please remember, I’m not getting any younger.lol. I hope to be there this Saturday, again, a friggin even earlier KO. Wtf are CFC trying to do, chase “normal” supporters away.

Anyhoos, I hope you are well and really looking forward to our big meet again, whether it is this week, or back to out normal 3.00 pm KO after the EL games are out of the way. 13. Pleased that Inter won tonight

It’s about this round, and the next that teams from the so called big leagues often decide they don’t want to be in this cup, and concentrate resources on the domestic front.

With a difficult game vs Fiorentina on Sunday, and a tough but realistic chance of finishing in a CL qualifier position, let’s hope Inter decide to focus on domestics.

Guys, need some help for Sunday. Heading down to the racing @ Kelso on Saturday with mrs PC67 and mini me, we are staying overnight and due to the noon kick off, gonnae miss the game!!!!!

The question is, does anyone know any Celtic friendly establishments that the three of us could catch the game in and around Kelso / Melrose / Galashiels etc?

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers in advance.

You are correct in that. Shug knows the Celtic support don’t listen to him (his own family don’t). He was delivered a few truths on the train from Dalmuir on the morning of the LCSF. He was on the air on the Monday complaining of delinquent behaviour of Celtic fans from Clydebank. Surprised he didn’t say they were high on altar wine after mass at St Stephen’s.

Can’t believe Inter have a Serie A game tonight, 3 days before s crucial Europa Cup tie.

    ..

Tom l posted a Article last week about English teams and How the Europa League gets in the Way of the Real Prize..The EPL and EPL Points and Champions League qualification..

For Example if you drop down One place in the EPL it can be worth Circa 1.4M..in Prizemoney..

Most managers and Player said they would prefer to Play Thursday-Monday..as they see the EPL game as the Crucial Fixture and want the 4 Days rest before..

The Inter CEO said as much just last week..That Qualification for The Champions League is still their main Goal..

Watched the game with the Inter mad old codger from down the valley. His view – same old / same old – do the work to take control / take the lead and then do their best to throw it away .He thinks their defence is lousy.I think he has a point.
