Week with a sting in the tail

781

The narrative was set for Aberdeen.  After six consecutive league wins without losing a goal, their bubble was burst when they drew with Dundee and St Johnstone, but it hasn’t turned out that way.  They have scored 10 and not conceded in the three league games since.  Out of the Scottish and League Cups, their entire focus is on beating teams less resourceful than them in the league, which is everyone apart from Celtic.

Despite Celtic’s impressive ability to collect points dating back several months, Aberdeen are hanging in there, a remarkable achievement.   The only thing which separates the teams are Celtic’s two 2-1 wins in their previous meetings this season.  From Saturday afternoon Aberdeen’s complete focus will be on their visit to Celtic Park on Sunday.

By contrast, Celtic will return to Glasgow early Friday morning after their trip to Milan.  They will face Aberdeen pretty much as that trip leaves them.

If I was offered a win and a defeat this week, I’d take the win in Milan, but we will need enough in te tank for Sunday’s game.

Thanks to everyone who booked a ticket over the weekend for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner on Friday on 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Anyone still to catch up, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

More to be pitied than scorned :-)

A few years ago we were traveling back from a game at Inverness and got stuck in road works around Cumbernauld. I looked out the side window and there was Andy Walker in the car beside us; he’d been covering the game for SKY.

He looked up at the bus and waved. I shook my head and turned away.

I hope that got to him more than me making some childish hand gesture :-)

I used to meet rat face novo often, when he lived in Knightswood.

Asked him once if he enjoyed playing for Diablo’s11.

He laughed nervously, looked away and said Aye.

I shook my head and tutted at him any time I saw him after that.

I think the figures these days include season books.

I’d rather have another euro tie at CP if I’m honest.

But If I had my way I’d get the europa on a Tues or weds on different weeks from the champions league.

I knew Pam very well having helped out on some of her productions as a set builder.

She always liked the fact that I had listened to many of the plays she directed for BBC radio4 in her early days

She and Maire Jones had a quite acrimonious parting of the ways when in my view MJ under the infjuence of her husband Ian Mc Elhinney returned to mainstream theatre

There was also legal action over ” artististic ownership of some of Pam’s and MJ’s joint ventures

Anyway she’s in a better place now and I will miss her effin and blinding at me

    Feck could she swear! :-)

  23. HT

Cheers for that. Now the big question, wit is wrong with her? Why the swelling and pain on both sides of her face and neck? She is due back at Hairmyres next month to hopefully get some kind of diagnoses. KTF my friend.

Haven’t been on the blog since this afternoon and I missed your reply. Did a quick check and there’s more than one verse but traditionally your hear only the chorus, and yes you’re correct we rarely hear that fully.

I think one of the most recent versions I had heard was 1 verse, then chorus, hence my 2 halves.

That’s probably as clear as mud.

Anyway everytime I read your blog name I’m reminded of the Dead Kennedy’s song: California Uberalles.

I’m away to listen to that tune before bed. I think it might be sacrilege to post a tune on a Monday night and I’d never hear the end if it from thomthethim

  26. Reply from Irish consulate

    Good morning

Thank you for your message through our website.

I did not hear the ‘Super Scoreboard’ show live at the time but I have listened to the recording on the Radio Clyde website archive.

Needles to say, I would not consider it appropriate that the Irish National Anthem should be characterised as a sectarian song or the singing of it associated with sectarian behaviour.

Thank you for getting in touch on this issue.

Very good reply from the consulate, according to Winning Captains ,Keevins was ordered onto tonight’s show by the bosses to sort out his mess. He was certainly backtracking at breakneck speed, so it appears the complaints had the desired affect.

Good that they took the time to listen to it. I would hope that they made a call to the station concerned.
