Week with a sting in the tail

781

The narrative was set for Aberdeen.  After six consecutive league wins without losing a goal, their bubble was burst when they drew with Dundee and St Johnstone, but it hasn’t turned out that way.  They have scored 10 and not conceded in the three league games since.  Out of the Scottish and League Cups, their entire focus is on beating teams less resourceful than them in the league, which is everyone apart from Celtic.

Despite Celtic’s impressive ability to collect points dating back several months, Aberdeen are hanging in there, a remarkable achievement.   The only thing which separates the teams are Celtic’s two 2-1 wins in their previous meetings this season.  From Saturday afternoon Aberdeen’s complete focus will be on their visit to Celtic Park on Sunday.

By contrast, Celtic will return to Glasgow early Friday morning after their trip to Milan.  They will face Aberdeen pretty much as that trip leaves them.

If I was offered a win and a defeat this week, I’d take the win in Milan, but we will need enough in te tank for Sunday’s game.

Thanks to everyone who booked a ticket over the weekend for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner on Friday on 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Anyone still to catch up, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

  1. Canamalar,

I mentioned previous that the decision by Raith to sell away tickets themselves might come back to scupper any charges.

  2. I don’t know what people are expecting here.

This is the same media and supporters who do not recognise The Rangers as a new club.

There is no danger they will take the blame for this or any responsibility.

It will be a society, west of Scotland issue. Schools will be brought into it. Orange Order won;t be mentioned. Celtic do it as well. Bla bla bla.

    Not worth listening to.

  5. Who cares what anybody sings it’s only words, every song at football will offend someone somewhere it’s only a matter of time before you won’t be allowed to sing anything at games

  6. Geordie..,

Raith are forced to and payed for police Scotland to attend the game, mass criminal activity is not a job for club security but the SFA will try and make a case.

Yeah its not easy but at least a month on the sectarian singing at Hampden is finally being talked about. For a few weeks I thought I must have imagined hearing the full repetoire of banned songs being belted out.

  8. Kevj…,

Yer wee pal is a hun, there was no taking for mugs, he said what he believes and has chosen his allegiance carefully, your pathetic defence is the soup takers meat, hang your head in shame.

  10. Canamalar,

    Indeed.

I just wished they had no wriggle room so they could have the booked thrown at them long before one of us let’s out a sectarian sneeze and the focus passed on to us

    Friday February 27

    Falkirk v Rangers (19.45), Scottish Championship, BT Sport 1 VM 547 / 549 HD, 19.30

Our weekly chance to check on what chaotic nonsense has befallen Rangers and what havoc Mike Ashley has managed to wreak north of the border in the last seven days carries us to a Friday night in Falkirk. Inevitably all the coverage, and most of the crowd, will be interested in the UK’s most farcical club (settle down fans of Leeds and QPR, you’ve got nothing on these guys) but spare a thought for Falkirk who used to yo-yo up and down out of this league quite a bit before they suddenly found Hearts, Hibs and Billy Smart’s Travelling Circus joining them at the second tier.

Currently fifth, Falkirk have a great chance to claim a famous win here given how abysmally Rangers are playing football, conducting their business, treating their wives, tending to their gardens, behaving on the way home from the pub and everything else besides.

  13. Hun Skelper,

That’s bullshit and you should know better, incitement to hatred invariably leads to violence, you can tell the relatives of those murdered and maimed that the incitement was only words.

They have no wriggle room that’s why they are concentrating on making some no matter how long it takes.

Oh and sneezing has not been made sectarian yet, only coughing so far

  16. These arranged ‘debates’ on Radio Scotland are boring and predictable.Amazingly enough ,they crop up after the huns songbook makes it to the papers.Just remember ‘one’s as bad as each other….’, will always be the object of the exercise.

  17. TTT,

When I first came out here I had similar views on the Qatari labour conditions and still hold those, however what I’ve found is that Qatari’s rarely set the conditions, they are set by expats and mainly Indian expats control the conditions for their countrymen, their total disrespect for human life and class system is the main reason so many are badly treated.

I’ve also come to the conclusion it’s a bit rich for anyone in the UK to have a pop at Qatari’s corruption when the Westminster Paedophile ring is being ignored by those casting the first stone so to speak. Not that you are in the UK but hopefully you get my drift.

  18. Richie #TeamOscarForever on

Last night Keevins did not apologize, or anywhere near it.

He said he had no problem with the Irish national anthem as he is a part of the Irish diaspora. He thinks, however, the Europa Cup game against Inter was not an appropriate time or place to sing it.

He did not, however, qualify this assertion, because it was clearly the result of a damage limitation debate with others, and is in fact, made up shite.

I’ve never sang a song and thought I’m going to batter someone, it’s more about the person than the song if that’s the sort of thing they do

Between you you have managed to articulate what I have in my own ham fisted way been trying to say.

People take ‘offence’ far too easily. What a substantial clump Rangers fans sing and their whole general demeanour is not merely offensive but threatening and bigoted. It has been known to get a lot more than threatening.

  21. The SPFL will do nothing. They are absolutely loathe to do anything that would cause further harm to them. So, no fine cause it would cause them financial harm. No points deduction cause it would damage their march to world domination. Ditto no ban.

On the subject of songs, we give them the opportunity to play the whataboutery card every time ‘orange b@stards’ is sung. Whether Hun is sectarian or not is debatable. Songs of our Irish heritage have been found not to be. Not matter how much they piss them and the Board off. But ‘orange b@stards’ is pretty unequivocal in my view.

  22. I take it the “discussion” on Radio Scotland about sectarianism in football petered out. Couldn’t listen in but I don’t imagine that it would even dream of allowing criticism of the undead without us being brought into it. Did any “journalist” on the programme speak up for Stan Collymore, an Englishman doing the work most Scots journalists wouldn’t dare to even mention.

  23. hun skelper,

You just moved up in my estimation however that was nor is the point, songs of hatred incite violence, your childish argument of denial is simply moving away from the point.

Agreed. As I said about 2am,he was wheeled out to apologise and did so. In a manner which made it plain that he didn’t mean a word of the apology.

In other words,he was only saying what he needed to say in order to remain in his job.

  25. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

    Canamalar,

Nope, sorry. I don’t get your “drift”.

The article was focussed on Barcelona’s celebrated ethos and has it been tarnished.

The plight of migrant workers is another story.

As many migrant workers have discovered over the years, it is generally their “own people” who exploit them on jobs.

The contractor who employs the subbies and pays them in the pub, was and perhaps still is, a feature of many lads who went out to America, undocumented.

Though only delayed for a week…

  27. Livibhoy,

And every time a cross is burned in the south they are celebrating their heritage, the yanks had the balls to confront it, because the Scots don’t does not make it ok, it is an illegal organisation being allowed to operate. The laws of the land are being broken every time they meet or march. Racist and sectarian laws that should be enforced are being ignored to make allowances for sectarian racists because the law is institutionally sectarian and racist, the laws are only there to make the pretence that Scotland is a modern democratic country.

  28. TTT,

Without the connection to the Qatari labour problems there would be no article it’s the reason the clubs image is blemished, it’s not really a hard connection to make.
