Week with a sting in the tail

781

The narrative was set for Aberdeen.  After six consecutive league wins without losing a goal, their bubble was burst when they drew with Dundee and St Johnstone, but it hasn’t turned out that way.  They have scored 10 and not conceded in the three league games since.  Out of the Scottish and League Cups, their entire focus is on beating teams less resourceful than them in the league, which is everyone apart from Celtic.

Despite Celtic’s impressive ability to collect points dating back several months, Aberdeen are hanging in there, a remarkable achievement.   The only thing which separates the teams are Celtic’s two 2-1 wins in their previous meetings this season.  From Saturday afternoon Aberdeen’s complete focus will be on their visit to Celtic Park on Sunday.

By contrast, Celtic will return to Glasgow early Friday morning after their trip to Milan.  They will face Aberdeen pretty much as that trip leaves them.

If I was offered a win and a defeat this week, I’d take the win in Milan, but we will need enough in te tank for Sunday’s game.

Thanks to everyone who booked a ticket over the weekend for the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner on Friday on 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Anyone still to catch up, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

  1. Oh boo hoo….they don’t like to be called huns, they reckon its sectarian.

That has got to be the craziest thing ive ever heard.

They are so far gone…its mental.

So if a protestant calls somebody …..an orange ba****d………..that is against the law ??……….if so …the law is an ass

  3. It’s really a bit pointless declaring a word like ‘hun’ to be sectarian because if everyone stops using it and uses ‘orc’ instead, then that too would have to be banned as it would be deemed offensive or referring to Protestants etc etc. It would just go on and on.

  6. Agree with Ernie, particularly regards Mac users.

They are establishment stooges who need everything spoon-fed to them.

They have discussion forums where they build up lists of PC users, name them and shame them, and troll the internet trying to make everyone else conform with them simply because they themselves could never take the time to engage with other operating systems, and so believe everyone else should be the same.

  9. What makes me laugh is the appeasers on here that don’t use the term Hun just in case it might offend some copulating Hun. They are solely to blame for the confusion every time the back the Huns

  10. Hun means “Rangers fan”as Tim means Celtic fan.I have to say that even on Monkey Media there are loads on this subject saying,GTF.Will not sign any petition, saying it is ridiculous.

This is the next step for the “State Aid”mob.Cretins to a man.

  11. I think using the word hun to describe shocking bigots….is rather restrained, they could be called a lot worse.

Poor wee lambs upset…because they get called huns…..awwww.

‘Robin McKie would like to be thought of as merely a Hun.

He is, in fact, a bigot’

I’ll take your word for it.

He is however correct about the meaning of the word hun.

  13. One of the funniest aspects of the huns objecting to being called ‘huns’ is the fact that they usually declare their feelings with a statement like:

‘Those f***ing fenians are always calling us huns…..’

The ‘huns’ have a vast array of terms they use to describe Catholics, especially those of an Irish heritage.

Ironically, most of them don’t cause any offence to (Irish) Catholics.

Fenians, taigs, papes, bead rattlers… the list goes on and on.

Perhaps we just have a thicker skin.

I suspect, the fact that these terms don’t really get us worked up probably frustrates them even more.

The name calling is not the issue really.

With the BB song, the offence is the fact that they are joyously celebrating the slaughtering/murder of Irish Catholics.

As I recall, they (the huns) objected vociferously at even the slightest hint of anyone saying one word, even inadvertently, about those who had died in the Ibrox disaster.

  14. Hun (hʌn)

    n.

    1. a member of a pastoral people of the Eurasian steppes, who in the late 4th century a.d. began a course of alternating conflict and alliance with their Iranian and Germanic neighbors and the Roman Empire: they reached the height of their power in Europe under Attila in the 5th century, and then disappeared from history. They then re-emerged in 2012 playing in the bottom tier of Scottish football.

  15. Mea Culpa

Isn’t it strange? Catholics celebrate the fact that Jesus Christ died….

Stranger still, Protestants, which the Sevconians claim to be, also celebrate the same event.

Your email is about comments made by one of our pundits Hugh Keevins regarding singing and sectarianism at football matches in Scotland.

I can tell you that at no time did Hugh say the Irish national anthem is sectarian and nor did he mean that.

He was merely asking the relevance of singing a country’s national anthem at a European football match.

He has clarified his comments in his weekly column for Clyde1.com and you can find that column here”

  20. The irony is aff the scale

    What a fecking laugh.

  21. Hun to me has always meant a fan of the now dead club. I’m happy for the new club to take ownership of the term.

A hun is a hun regardless of sex, race, religion or whatever. It’s not a bigoted term, it refers equally to those of all religions and of none.

Similarly I have no problem with being called a tim as a Celtic fan.

  22. The hun mindset:

After about 20 of them kick the sh*t out of some poor sod, they justify their actions by claiming the poor sod had called them ‘huns’.

‘Neanderthals’ might be a more appropriate description.

  23. I have lost count of the number of times the word Protestant has appeared in comments on this blog in the last few days. What is meant by that word in this country? Perhaps the following story might help to underline the confusion in the minds of a vast majority of our fellow Scots.

I know of a situation where a priest preparing a couple for marriage asked them what religion they were. The girl said Catholic and her future spouse replied that he was a Protestant. On being asked which form of Protestantism he had been baptised into, the young man was confused. To help the priest asked him if he was a Presbyterian, Methodist, Episcopalian, etc. Again confusion, so the priest simply asked “Which Church were you baptised in?” The reply was simply, “Ah wisnae baptised anywhere.”

Therein lies the problem in this country. People with no religion claim to be protestant. In fact what they are saying whether disdainfully or otherwise is, “Am no a Catholic”.

I see the huns are starting a petition to have the word ‘hun’ described as sectarian or something. I always felt the word meant ‘a rangers supporter who hates catholics’ but I will be willing to abide by any legal judgement.

    ——————————

I agree with the Huns. We need to stop calling them that. Let’s drop all the pretence and get more honest; let’s just start calling them what they are – See You Next Tuesdays; every one of the hate-fuelled, bile-filled, filthy bigoted orange bastards.

Some on CQN take offence at the Rangers fans singing up to there knees in Fenian blood and want the football authorities to do something about it which is fine by me.Others on CQN seem to feel it is fine to take the Lords name in vain well I find that much more offensive than the Rangers fans singing up to there knees in fenian blood and I would ask those taking the Lords name to please stop.
