What is tolerated in Scotland

250

Even when Celtic are no longer involved in a cup competition, I usually have a commercial concern for the tournament and the game in general.  If we are not at a final (and Newco seldom are), who will buy the all tickets?  Even Aberdeen could not sell their allocation of tickets against Celtic in recent finals.

In this respect, it is a good time for the Scottish Cup semis and final to be behind closed doors.  The SFA will lose no more money than if Celtic were there for a fifth successive triumph.

You have to feel for St Johnstone fans, already denied attendance at their second major trophy win, they could also miss their third.  They were dragged into a sectarian scandal when their players were abused at the behind closed doors quarterfinal.  Carried out on the SFA’s watch by staff permitted to be pitch side, how the Association deal with the matter will tell you lots about how our game/country/media is run.

If only the abuser was from a different club, or better still, if he was Czech, the frenzy would ensure such attitudes were not tolerated in Scotland in 2021.  But you know there are.  Feeling a bit less interested in the SFA’s financial well-being, to be honest.

  1. So why aren’t St Johnstone highlighting this and identifying the individual?

You can scatter gun the blame to everyone in Scotland if you wish but if the people it was perpetrated against don’t want to complain why on earth would an already conflicted SFA take up the charge?

The SFA would have to take action if the abuser was identified by the victim.

  2. Watch the guy, who seems to be an SFA official, turn his head round to his right to look when the offensive abuse is shouted.

Indeed – part of the problem (IMHO) is that people are too scared – or just don’t want the hassle – of being the face of the fight against this sort of thing.

If an individual complains, he / she becomes a target.

As you say, it is down to the club (St Johnstone) to do this as a corporate body.

    Sorry lads but I disagree.

The onus of establishing culpability is on neither the individual victim nor St Johnstone.

In an ideal world the victim shouldn’t have to pursue their justice.

This is the SFA’s match, under their supervision and under their disciplinary processes. It’s their problem to deal with 100%

I agree with P67 to the extent that I fear we are unlikely to be surprised with the attitude of the Media, Huns and SFA to this episode compared to recent events.

  7. St Johnstone shouldn’t have to make a complaint. The powers that be should be crucifying SEVCO asking that they find the individual concerned, followed by him being banned sine die and a full apology from SEVCO to both St Johnstone and the individual concerned.

Only in Scotland is this considered acceptable behaviour.

“The SFA would have to take action…” etc

I have watched this movie and most clubs (incl ours) patently tolerate abuses of the rules and their staff.

The SFA will do SFA as and when it suits them; and the broader ‘interests’ of this loaded game they peddle.

P67 is right to condemn the stinking double standards.

BTW; not that it’ll ever happen but CFC should sign a Japanese RB called Tomoki Imai currently playing in Oz. Super strong, huge ticker, quick and brave. Mr Reliable – it’ll never happen tho. HH

  9. I felt for Glen Kamara. First he was probably verbally racially abused. Then he was used by his employer to deflect from what was a night of on and off field thuggery by their employees (kamara being one of them and that is where my sympathy ends)

The cynical use of alleged racism against one of their players is among the most hypocritical and cynical things I’ve witnessed in football.

Both ibrox clubs have shown themselves in practice to be institutionally racist and bigoted. OK, they’ve signed a low profile Irish guy or two now, they stopped banning players from blessing themselves. However they remain shockingly quiet on the fan base returning, after a very brief interlude, to singing the Billy boys, ftp, the famine song etc They have had sections of the ground closed for racist behaviour. They have an employee shouting anti Irish abuse at opponents. They play a song with the same tune as the famine song on match days. A director got the heave ho for islamaphobic behaviour because he was caught and on and on and on

Not to mention the fascist salutes, the well known affinity of many British amd European fascists to their club(s) over the years. I first remember it being referenced in a book called The Old Firm in the 80s – pictures of BNP papers being sold outside ibrox.

We need to put them back in their supremacist box.

  10. The Star above The Crest on

Now would be the perfect time for the Sevco hierarchy & indeed management team to demonstrate that they are serious about fighting all forms of discrimination and that their Everyone, Anyone campaign isn’t a cynical PR stunt to try and stave off future punishment because of their fans abhorrent behaviour.

I’ll be astonished if anything happens though.

  11. Henke – apologies, I meant is it possible the guy the 4th official was looking round to see was GMcA? Saw the guy you referenced – 4th Official I think?

I believe this discussion re: Hun anti-Irish racism is a classic example of what is called a social media echo chamber.

Like minded people talking to and amongst similarly minded people.

It’s all well and good but the square root of hee haw will come of it until our club and/or others put pressure on the SFA, or more likely we as ‘Customers’, which I believe is what we’re now regarded as, put pressure on the clubs.

Financial threats by other SPL supporters to their respective clubs was all that stopped Sevco being parachuted into the top flight in 2012.

Celtic’s day of financial reckoning for their Hun rehabilitation programme isn’t far away now.

  16. Scotland are happy enough to turn a blind eye or deaf ear when it’s Tims that are on the end of the stick…………….

If the huns are to be stopped they need to recognise why they have defined themselves by hunnish behaviour……..

I’ve said it from the start, until Scotland has something akin to a Truth and Reconciliation process a la Sith Efrika then we hunned-up nuggets like that wan will be allowed to go abooot thur business as usual.

” Rangers have been issued with a second Uefa charge of racist behaviour for sectarian singing, this time in relation to the conduct of supporters in last week’s Europa League play-off round first leg against Legia Warsaw.

The club had already been ordered by Europe’s governing body to close part of Ibrox for tonight’s second leg. With Uefa threatening to order a total closure in the event of further offences, Rangers have informed its control, ethics and disciplinary body that they would not request tickets for their next away match in Europe.”
