What is tolerated in Scotland

250

Even when Celtic are no longer involved in a cup competition, I usually have a commercial concern for the tournament and the game in general.  If we are not at a final (and Newco seldom are), who will buy the all tickets?  Even Aberdeen could not sell their allocation of tickets against Celtic in recent finals.

In this respect, it is a good time for the Scottish Cup semis and final to be behind closed doors.  The SFA will lose no more money than if Celtic were there for a fifth successive triumph.

You have to feel for St Johnstone fans, already denied attendance at their second major trophy win, they could also miss their third.  They were dragged into a sectarian scandal when their players were abused at the behind closed doors quarterfinal.  Carried out on the SFA’s watch by staff permitted to be pitch side, how the Association deal with the matter will tell you lots about how our game/country/media is run.

If only the abuser was from a different club, or better still, if he was Czech, the frenzy would ensure such attitudes were not tolerated in Scotland in 2021.  But you know there are.  Feeling a bit less interested in the SFA’s financial well-being, to be honest.

Completely agree with your general point and the Defoe pen was the perfect example. Commentator waxing (pish) lyrically about how there was no saving it, when it wasn’t too far away from being so!

What determines whether or not most penalties are good/bad is whether the keeper goes the right way! Only a very few are unsaveable.

St J had one the other night, which was all the more satisfying as McGregor had been trying to out-psyche the lad.

Penalties of a different nature …. are we offended by the F word, the C word, or their use in tandem?

I’d expect that if this story gets any oxygen, it’ll be quickly doused by a big dose of ‘one side’s as bad as the other’ and yet another campaign to outlaw the use of the word hun.

Whereas you only get disrespectful penalties in Scotland? when its an Eddy Panenka, are we the same ole Celtic always cheating putting the ball where the keeper can’t get it? ….Who knows.

Think Paul67 (or anybody else) is tilting at windmills with the toleration story. One chorus of ‘sad orange b..tard’ around Celtic Park lingers long in the memory of any judge, and of course perpetuates the one’s as bad as the other myth you describe.

Could I suggest it was because Ramsay Macdonald, not being the seventh son of a seventh son, did not have the gift of foresight and therefore did not know that Mosley was going to go on to form the BUF eight years later?

Mosley of course had started out in the Conservative Party but left over disagreements over Ireland, in particular over the behaviour of the Black and Tans, then joined the ILP before moving on to the Labour Party.

What part of that political progression are you suggesting should have debarred him from membership of the Labour Party?

The phrase – ‘ like a bulldog chewing a wasp ‘ – was devised after the person who coined the phrase spied a picture of the young damsel herself – Ms Foster – out ‘on the pull’ at the annual Shankill Protestant Boys sociable in the 1990’s.

Not a lot of people know that.

This isn’t a lecture big man. You are free to do what you obviously want to do. But read this first. The Yanks are finding that a heavy bevvy sesh can affect how beneficial the vaccination is for you.

And hear this- their definition of heavy drinking is, ….. wait for it…..5 beers or more!🤔

“Some experts warn that heavy drinking right after the vaccine could affect its efficacy. Christoper Thompson, PhD, an associate professor at Loyola University Maryland’s Department of Biology, told Healthline that “most of the available data on how alcohol impacts the immune system and vaccine responses suggest that, in general, people should avoid binge drinking and heavy drinking around the time of the vaccination.”

While none of the clinical trials for U.S.-authorized coronavirus vaccines looked at whether or not alcohol impacts the vaccines’ efficacy, Thompson said that heavy alcohol consumption causes the immune system to work less efficiently—which can mess with how effective the vaccine is. “We see functional dysregulation of many immune cells while also seeing an increase in inflammation and pro-inflammatory molecules throughout the whole body,” he explained. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), heavy drinking is defined as more than four drinks in one day for men and more than three drinks in one day for women.

  16. Isn’t more than likely that organisations such as the Orange Order & their vast number of ‘camp followers’ will look to underpin & protect their ‘culture’ by entering the political arena in Scotland, in the same way they do in Ulster. If they do, they will be much bigger fish in a smaller pool.

    ————————–

Orange Order membership is now estimated at less than 40,000.

If all their family members are the followers, there might be truelly 200,000 anti catholic haters in the country.

I think they have zero political influence in scotland, they dont affect the vote at all.

The majority of scots that I know that are Nationalist are now against me or my religion, they are apathetic to it.

Many many many Rangers followers are in mixed marriages, many have kids brought up if not as catholics at least supporting Celtic.

I truelly think your Orangemen under the bed ready to pounce is desperate nonsense.

In real life, does anyone really know any oranginans ?

  17. Back in the 70s when I was but a bhoy, my mothers family had 15 members of the lodge, her grandfather one of the titled ones, an ex foreman in the yards, and herself in the flute band playing an accordian. Her childhoods were back and forward to belfast and farms in the north.

But that was 50 years ago.

Through mixed marriages, migration, the passing of the elders, there is not one person in that side of the family that is either Orange or a Rangers supporter. None, nada.

Like wee Lulu, there are many in my family that dont even know their granny was an orangewoman.

I guess I am like many many people in Scotland.

    ###

The Iraq war would have gone ahead whether the UK was involved or not and in all likelihood just as many people would have died (though obviously none of them would have been British squaddies, a detail which I doubt would concern you over much).

So if you think about it (big if, I know) the chances are the SNP caused more additional deaths through their handing of the Pandemic than were caused by the UK’s involvement in the Iraq war.
