When an asset becomes a daunting liability

1665

With Ukio Bankas bankrupt there is an acceptance that Hearts, who owe the bank in the region of £15m, will go into administration shortly after the end of the season.  This might not be the case.

Hearts major problem is their major asset, Tynecastle Stadium, which occupies a valuable patch of land in Edinburgh.  If administrators acting on behalf of Ukio have free access to the stadium they may shut it and look to recoup their loans by selling the land.  There is a possibility Hearts could be a football club without a stadium, but that does not necessarily mean they will go into administration.  Without a stadium to use the club would be liquidated but there is a possibility they would be able ground-share.

Hearts tested the land value before the property crash and received an offer of £22m from a house builder.

Alternatively the bank’s administrators could use their considerable influence over how the club is managed to sell their shares or come to some other arrangement (Ticketus, anyone?). When the major creditor has this much control of the company without administration, going through the formal process could actually harm their chances of getting their money back.

  7. Longmuir and Sevco, Donald Ducked?

Under fire SFL chief David Longmuir

has branded rebel First Division clubs

    as desperate.

    Yesterday news emerged the 11

leading SFL clubs were about to

    tender their resignation and open

talks with the SPL to have a new

structure in place for the 2013/14

    season.

    Longmuir’s reluctance to support

    reconstruction has left First Division

clubs frustrated with fears that full-

time football could be under threat at

    a number of clubs.

Rather than attempt to find common

    ground with those clubs Longmuir

has gone on the attack against his

    most influential members.

The SFL chief told The Daily Record:

    “This is desperate men with

    desperation hanging all around them.

It is a sideshow but one which is

    causing division.

“I am not going to allow desperate

men, who are all over the place, to

dictate what the SFL strategy should

be. My duty is to Scottish football

and to all 30 of our league clubs.

He added: “I have every confidence

the SFL have played a key role in

trying to bring about change for next

    year.

“What I don’t have confidence in is

for these clubs to open a door which

    is actually closed.”

    Responding to yesterday’s

    announcement an SPL statement

read: “We can confirm we have

    received a letter from the

    overwhelming majority of those clubs

which would be in the SFL Division 1

next season expressing a desire to be

admitted to the SPL for 2013–14.

“This letter will be put in front of all

SPL clubs at their all club meeting

this Tuesday when we look forward

to discussing how best to take

forward the game in this country.”

Barry is probably the only journalist to have recorded the cross examination of the Scene of Crime officers. It was hilarious. I just loved this bit.

…….Under cross-examination from prosecution counsel, Philip Henry BL, Ms Johnston agreed that she had only lowered one section of the rear seat of the car and that it had not in fact impacted on the matchsticks.

However when Mr Shivers’ defence counsel then produced photographs of the car to show that Ms Johnston had indeed lowered both sections of the back seat, she conceded: “I apologise, my Lord, I have mis-remembered, the other side of the seat was also down.”………

I fully intend to mis-remember the next time I speak to a copper.

  10. On any plans to redevelop the land on which the old school building stands:

I was thinking that maybe a wee quiet room could be set aside as a non denom chapel for supporters to go in troubled personal times or to give thanks to the family members responsible for taking them to and turning them into supporters of one of the world’s most charitable of clubs in every sense of the word.

Anyone who has ever visited the wee shrine at Schoenstaat in Campsie Glen and felt the silence will know that peace.

Nothing ostentatious just a wee room for quiet reflection…..

  11. Auldheid “I was thinking that maybe a wee quiet room could be set aside as a non denom chapel ” – I think that is a great idea.

I see there is a bit in the record about Celtic bailing the The rangers out financially with a claim that Bayern did the same for BVB. Bayern did support BVB and this has been common knowledge but they also supported St Pauli and probably others. Uli Hoeness is well respected in Germany, despite currently being in trouble for tax evastion, and he has been behind some of these moves. I think St Pauli even presented him with a strip.

Funny that 2 years after the cheif writer at the record refused to acknowledge Chico’s assertion that a rangers director nodded when asked if the club could go out of business, and 1 year after it actually happened, we have the record now outlining a scenario where our post-tax income is presented to our rivals in order to stop them going out of business….

Jabba worked so hard to keep the L word from being mentioned or printed, announced the corpse dead and now seems to be constantly defining some intangible entity called the club which cannot die.

Is L-day 2.0 on the way or is this story not worthy of further comment?

Big mistake to get rid of Mick McCarthy last year. Wouln’t have kept them in the PL, but would have been challenging to go back up this season.
