Who stole Jason?

931

Delighted for Wales last night but what’s happened to Jason Denayer? Since ending his loan period at Celtic a year ago he’s made 15 starts for Galatasaray. He was hooked on four of those occasions, which is a high percentage substituted for a defender. Gala won their first four league games with Jason in the team but won only once in his final 10 appearances. The point was made to me last night that he looked overweight.

In his 12 months at Celtic he polished his rough edges and established himself as a top performer in the most effective defence we’ve had in years. Manchester City were not prepared to let him return to Celtic as the reckoned he simply wasn’t being stretched.

He signed a new contract at Man City before heading for Turkey, but their new management team are unlikely to promote him to their first team squad. He’s unlikely to have impressed anyone at the Euros and Galatasaray won’t be as keen as Celtic were to have him back.

Is it possible we’re the only ones who know what he’s capable of? I’d have him back tomorrow.

That handball – anyone care to hazard a guess at the decision had that been a Scottish ref and a Celtic player?

    Ralston is a tank,

is this a good or bad point? he is a young raw footballer who looks like he is on the small side and not very athletic.

Ron67…do you have something against Celtic right-backs? Yesterday it was Janko, now today young Ralston.

Give the young guys a chance…(oh I know, it’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it).

Denayer was good in a rank rotten Scottish league. Luxembourg team almost took Aberdeen during the week. We still bombed in Europe with him in defence. I don’t think Denayer is anything other than a third rate defender. Good distribution but not much else.

maybe our manager has the same opinion and thats why he is allegedly looking at bringing someone else in.

  8. Hat’s off to Iceland – beaten but NOT disgraced – so much more than the sum of their parts – same applies to Wales.

Ralston is only a bhoy. Solid unit and raw. He will get there.

  10. I think the criticism being thrown at Deneyer is way over the top.

It cant have been easy for him not being natural Centre Half, (in terms of size at least) coming into a team at relatively short notice following injuries to the two usual central defenders without any time to build a partnership or any kind of understanding and playin in probably the biggest game in his country’s history, in a game they were expected to win.

    Cut the guy some slack

  11. A win against the 4th placed team in the Austrian league in our 2nd game, a league which is a level above its Scottish counterpart is not too shabby.

Christie seems the player we all hoped he would be.

Brendan bound to be impressed with Allen, movement and dare I say it- athleticism too, over and above his quality playing with the ole heid up.

Doctor Ajer being talked through the game by his captain, Suave Erik looked not out of place. That single tackle showed what he is capable of.

Even Nadir looks a promising player again, who can offer something up front on his own versus the hammer throwers.

Probably the one who has pleasantly surprised Brendan the most of all, however, is young Saidy Janko. Having been injured for so long, he will have slipped under the radar somewhat, but has already made right back his own. A few tweaks in his defensive awareness and we have an exciting player on our hands.

    Happy days.

Ron67…you may well be right but I just think young up-and-coming players should be given a proper chance before any criticism of them from fans. However, we are not always very patient…

  13. Congratulations to Iceland, the team and especially their fans. You should be proud.

The new benchmark in upsetting and beating the big teams.

Hope to see them back for the World Cup.

Their success shines a light particularly on the shambolic failure that is the SFA. A self serving, corrupt gravy train intent only on their own self-preservation on the free junket circuit.

The 2nd pre-season game against a decent team in which there were no failures amongst the kids.

  16. It’s a goodnight from me….had a good day. Shame about the Iceland saga ending but it looks like Germany v Portrugal and my last coupon limps on?

Had a decent couple of pints in The Lab , just off Buchanan St today, Draught Budvar at £ 3.50 a pint was very good value .

    From BBC,

‘Summer priority: Rangers were vulnerable at times in central defence last season and manager Mark Warburton has recruited Clint Hill after the 37-year-old’s release by Queens Park Rangers to add extra steel, if not pace, to that department.’

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

This tournament has completely changed my mind about Gareth Bale.

Perhaps he will always be inflated value given his price tag, but being the humble leader and hard worker for the cause he is is inspiring, and puts Ronaldo’s ego to shame.

Ralston is young and i don’t agree he is not athletic.

He is raw but has tenacity so there is something there.

Janko and Lustig are both ahead of him but he has time on his side.

    Bitton?:))

I am not a fan as all on this site know.

He has not shown anything yet but we have yet to field a full strength side.

I can’t see him fitting in Brendans high tempo style.

Ajer looks a far better candidate for that role.

He plays with his head up and read the game well and is strong in the tackle.

Still early but i think Bitton and Forrest will go.

But Brendan will have a strategy and decide so no real clue.
