Why Celtic have to make a success of Iwata

208

Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi were our original players from the east, recruited during Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge.  Kyogo was transformational, a truly special player.  Despite injury midway through that season, his influence over Scottish football was profound.

Like Kyogo, Daizen made a blistering start, scoring four minutes into his debut against Hibs.  A few weeks after arriving, Reo demolished Newco, scoring twice and assisting with a third.

Yosuke had the opposite introduction to Scotland.  He was assaulted during a brutal Cup game at Alloa, the resultant injury saw him used sparingly on his return.  The 28 minutes he got in the final league game of the season, against Motherwell, was more than the sum of all bit parts he played in other games following injury.  This season has been a wipe-out.

If asked to give your view on the player, you would struggle.  An alarm bell may have chimed for Yosuke when he discovered he was cover for captain, Callum McGregor.  Across football, captains and central defenders are seldom shuffled.  Callum has the added attribute of being almost indestructible, although he was a fellow assault-ee that night in Alloa.  If the captain is never rested, his understudy is not going to see action.

The world moved on in January and Tomoki Iwata, our sixth Japanese player, after the recent addition of Yuki Kobayashi, joined the most profound Japanese influence on western culture since the Plastic Ono Band co-opted John Lennon and Eric Clapton (don’t bother troubling your streaming service for that lot).

Tomoki was crowned Player of the Year in Japan in December, he is a talent who should be given the opportunity to flourish.  Can you see Ange resting Callum, even home to St Mirren on Saturday?  Me neither.  A reputation for improving and propelling players has to be a part of the story.  If we ‘waste’ them, supply of the good ones will dry up.

Coneybhoy…I’m not saying he’s a bad guy but as an ex-employee of Lazarus fc the welcome mat will be laid out for his return to the aforementioned radio stations…and to be honest, he’s not the worst pundit on the air…

Lafferty doesn’t look too happy! Probably has to claim working credit in that job😎

Same as Billy Dodds who seems to have a show up at BBC Scotland every time he’s sacked by a club.

IMHO Sportscene get it wrong by constantly mixing up their panel.

Makes for an inconsistent viewer experience.

They’d do better to pick a panel and stick with it – a bit like the gong show … although perhaps not as high brow (!).

Steven Thompson hosts with McCann, Foster, Miller and Dodds.

Very equitable spread of ex players who’ve turned out for Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Dundee, Dundee United, St Mirren, Partick Thistle & St Johnstone.

Only a paranoid bigot with a chip on their shoulder would complain about the composition surely?

    🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

  5. McCann is the only one that irks me.

    Classic Dunning Kruger

Got the gig at Dundee, copied EPL managers with jumper and jacket and thought he was a manager

Good luck to our Celtic B bhoys tonight, a big game in their league campaign.

It would’ve been a blast to have the chance to buy a viewing of this one during a week when the first team is idle

Last season at Excelsior, a couple were row in front of me a few seats along. It was obvious they were family to one of ours, following him ahead of the game. Well done, Bruno Davidson on the new contract.

    Put the work in.

Celtic Women have amazed me to be in the mix for the league title. I’ll be following every game they play from now to season’s end – win, lose or draw.

Thanks re info for Stirling univ ground. It should be a cracker. Hopefully our B team can beat the weather and the excellent Stirling team and keep the pressure on Tranent and the rangers.

Winning SPFL and Lowland and the ladies plus the big team cup and league cup would be pretty cool.

Neil Lennon is interested in the Aberdeen job but he couldn’t take it until April (for tax purposes), not sure if Aberdeen want him but if they do then I’d imagine Barry Robson would remain in charge until the new financial year at the earliest, which would be five more games.

Agree. It would have been good on tv on a night like this.

Hence making the trip. Horrendous evening but £7 of value to attend.

The treble of SPFL Lowland and Ladies would be really special.

7⃣,7⃣2⃣3⃣ in attendance at Easter Road tonight for an Under-19 fixture.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Academy boys this evening – and safe trip home to the 100

  11. I asked one of the bhoys on regarding me having shares in CELTIC, maybe a bit unfair in asking him ,so I’ll will apologize to him ,but I’m still seeking answers to my original question.

  12. St Stivs

That makes sense in terms of tax but i’d be surprised if he is on the list

Not a cheap flight to Dublin for him midweek either

  13. Timbhiy163

Celtic shares don’t trade often. If you want to buy there are brokers in Glasgow or you can set up trading accounts online. Not a simple process in my experience

  14. I wondered if after lockddowns people would flock to the football or not return as habits have changed and the fear of further outbreaks.

Workplaces are suffering as people dont return citing travel, commute, cost, life balance, new priorities, yada yada yada,

but they will go out, go to restraunts, go to pubs, cinema, and indeed fitba.

some grounds are at peak average attendnace in 30-40-50 years.

others are maxxed out, the huns and us,

others the only other revenue they can make is let more of us in, but they wont (the most bizarre business decision) they have decided they dont need anyomer old-firm supporters in town.

2022-23 Scottish #Premiership is on course to be the highest attended since the 12 team 38 game League format was formed in 2000-01.

    • Highest attended League Per Capita in World Football

    • Highest average att: since 1999-2000

    • 11/12 clubs posting increase on last season

I dont want to torment you bud, but if you have to ask people on here how to go about buying shares, then the actual process itself is going to be hard work, it is not easy.

better ask a younger relative for help, you need to have a shares account with a broker.

  16. I buy Celtic shares for my private pension every month via Fidelity. I buy a few every month also as part of of a shares account I have with barclays. Its simple enough. And if you set up a monthly order to buy, it keeps the dealing costs down.

Certificate dealing is much less common now and a lot of brokers simply don’t offer it. So if you want a shares certificate for the wall, computershare may be your best bet, I think they still offer certified dealing.

Going by the last couple of weeks, Nicola Sturgeon.

  20. I always support the union; I have never been convinced that breaking away is good for Scotland, especially as Ireland has the advantage on the industries and infrastructure that separatists have in their strategy

Om Sturgeon; the last thing she wants is a referendum as she loses her crown either way
