Why Celtic have to make a success of Iwata

208

Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi were our original players from the east, recruited during Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge.  Kyogo was transformational, a truly special player.  Despite injury midway through that season, his influence over Scottish football was profound.

Like Kyogo, Daizen made a blistering start, scoring four minutes into his debut against Hibs.  A few weeks after arriving, Reo demolished Newco, scoring twice and assisting with a third.

Yosuke had the opposite introduction to Scotland.  He was assaulted during a brutal Cup game at Alloa, the resultant injury saw him used sparingly on his return.  The 28 minutes he got in the final league game of the season, against Motherwell, was more than the sum of all bit parts he played in other games following injury.  This season has been a wipe-out.

If asked to give your view on the player, you would struggle.  An alarm bell may have chimed for Yosuke when he discovered he was cover for captain, Callum McGregor.  Across football, captains and central defenders are seldom shuffled.  Callum has the added attribute of being almost indestructible, although he was a fellow assault-ee that night in Alloa.  If the captain is never rested, his understudy is not going to see action.

The world moved on in January and Tomoki Iwata, our sixth Japanese player, after the recent addition of Yuki Kobayashi, joined the most profound Japanese influence on western culture since the Plastic Ono Band co-opted John Lennon and Eric Clapton (don’t bother troubling your streaming service for that lot).

Tomoki was crowned Player of the Year in Japan in December, he is a talent who should be given the opportunity to flourish.  Can you see Ange resting Callum, even home to St Mirren on Saturday?  Me neither.  A reputation for improving and propelling players has to be a part of the story.  If we ‘waste’ them, supply of the good ones will dry up.

    :-)

Not my scene, never smoked in my life, more of a “clubber” as for jellies … was partial to midget gems & sports mixtures that was my limit :-)

Best of luck to big Gia, I liked him, man of many clubs, 40 appearances 19 goals and a couple of medals for us, hopefully his replacement Oh also becomes a fans favourite … going to be difficult to displace our Japanese Bhoy Kyogo as number one though

  2. Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson is enjoying the burgeoning rivalry between Ibrox manager Michael Beale and his opposite number at Celtic, Ange Postecoglou, as well as the “little bit of needle that is creeping into the relationship”. (Daily Record)

    _____________________________________________________________________________________

Above from the BBC Scotland Sports website.

Apart from there’s no ‘burgeoning rivalry’ (there’s no way Bazza used that word!) The only ‘needle that’s creeping into the relationship’ might be one belonging to El Buffalo, alledgy.

How to make up a story and then comment on a story and then convince the hard of thinking that it’s true. I’m sure all of the above is news to Ange.

  3. Just seeking the opinion of the Scots on this one

Woke up this morning, watching BBC 1, there was a 72 Yr old Dunfermline cameraman on – Doug Allan – on, and he referred to killer whales as ‘catholic’ ie particular, ie ones from different areas strongly prefer certain prey, is that considered fair ‘banter’ over there cause I was a little surprised when the hosts offered no comment / apology on it….

Music was the high for me , didn’t even need a drink to have a great time , as I said, they were the days.

BIG JIMMY…re the old days and clothing .

I remember coming in from school and putting my mother’s washing through the mangle (wringer) and “hingin it on the pulley ” in the kitchen.

Getting up in the morning and going out to the close for coal (it used be in the kitchen cupboard ) and getting the fire started .

Putting the shovel across the fire with a newspaper across it to draw the flames ….also rolling up newspaper and putting knots in them for the fire ……

Thanks for bringing back those memories …….by the way my wee ma bought me crimpolene trousers for school !! washed and dried in no time and kept their shape 🙈🤣

  5. garygillespieshamstring on

Someone could be referred to as having “catholic tastes’ in music meaning they listened to a variety of genres, based upon the meaning of the word “catholic’ being “universal”.

If he was saying the killer whales were eating a variety of prey species then his usage would be correct.

However he could just as easily be a hun trying to be a smart arse.

  6. Tom McLaughlin on

Still can’t believe Ernie has been banned for life. Wouldn’t wish that on him or anyone else. He’s been on CQN since its inception.

Twas a relatively innocuous exchange between us but as he has been banned for an email to Moderator1888 I’ll have to leave it at that anf hope his forced exile is lifted.

    Memory trigger !

    Straight up true story

Years ago I was asked to look at a commercial proposition for a multi year contract

(It was a big deal – £ hundreds of millions – so you’d assume they’d make a proper job of it)

I wasn’t leading the charge on it BTW – was just asked to have a look.

Usual stuff – 100 pages of blah with occasional charts and graphs.

Quality Assurance section contained this absolute gem ….

“Prior to publication and sharing, all documentation will be subject to PIER REVUE”

    (Capitals are mine for emphasis)

    🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦

    Back to Basics….,

Maybe you were the first line of Pier Revue, did the boat come in?

    Was it a naval/maritime contract?

This morning a friend sent me an image from the interweb which, IMHO, sums up the SMSM perfectly.

Against a background image of Ange saluting the faithful are the words

    “They mocked his arrival”

    “They pray for his departure”

    👏👏👏👏👏👏

    Canamalar – Lol.

I immediately had images of a dance troupe doing their thing in Brighton

  12. pity Ernie is not here, we are missing the chance to say that the PIER REVUE was why Fergusons got the contract

  13. Just no-one mention the Inland Revue, we’ll be accused of being obsessed with them’uns again….

    Very good Mate.

    SO TRUE !

  15. I missed all the fun, so can’t comment, just wondering do we go with our normal first eleven against St.Mirren.

Would it be a chance to give a start to one or more of the likes of Iwata, Kobayashi or Oh.

It’s not that I devalue the Cup but it’s not a game you need to build up your goal difference , any win will do, we should have enough to win whether we play our more established players from the start or hold them in reserve on the bench.

    Corkcelt,

Don’t think we should be changing much on potential banana skin that could kill the treble

  18. Corkcelt, Canamalar,

Of course it’s time to see what we actually have in a competitive game. Domestic cup competition is the perfect opportunity for that.

    If not now, when ?

We say we are not half of anything, but fear of what we are not half off seems to dominate our thought process.

    HH.

  19. Corkcelt

I see no reason why Kobayashi can’t play the 90/120.

If we are comfortable, I’d let Iwata have 30 instead of McGregor (rest).

That leaves 4 forward/midfield sub options if the plan backfires or to bag a few more goals

  20. Did ERNIE LYNCH ever consider becoming a ” BOND VILLIAN” ?

That was often the impression that he left on me.

    LOL

As for CANAMALAR and TOM Mc…………They are just ” VILLIANS” !

    LOL…Only Joking Gents.

Would rather have a low scoring treble than high scoring double, no fear, its I just like trebles better.

  22. Prestonpans bhoys on

    Welcome back the banned two!

Don’t know the mod but he obviously plays by a set of rules which has certain levels of tolerance, a lot of bhoys may consider them to be a bit high or intolerant.

If I was EL I would email back retracting his previous comments. He will be missed some of his one liners were amusing.

    ………….

Nothing we say on here will make up ANGEs mind for him……Its HIS Job, and he gets paid for it.

Big ANGE gets it RIGHT……MOST Times.

    HH.

  24. Too much at stake on Saturday. Home ‘fortress’ and counter-operation ‘treble my arse’ in full swing.

Minutes needed for Iwata, Kobyashi, Bernabei, Ralston, Forrest, O’Riley, Haksa and Oh.

Possible mini-rests for McGregor, Mooy, Kyogo, Hatate and Maeda.

I’m sure with both starting line-up changes and prioritising 5 subs Ange will get the balance right.

Start brightly, get a good lead and make use of the squad.
