Celtic will receive £1.65m from the Uefa revenue distribution system for participating in the Champions League play-off round against Helsingborgs. Add to that around £1m gate money and the guarantee of at least three Europa League games, with Uefa distribution money, you can calculate the value of Wednesday’s win over HJK Helsinki as no less than £6m (all figures are net of vat). Quite a prize for one game.
Compare this to the projected income from newco The Rangers, who claimed to have sold 25,000 season tickets. If all sales were at full adult prices (£258 in vat), net income would be £5.375m.
Should Celtic overcome Helsingborgs and reach the Champions League group stage, the club will return to a remarkably strong financial footing.

What ever money we made tonight will contribute to Lawells bonus.
Or is my head up my a*se.
I hope young Dylan has suffered no serious injury.
I hope lawell sleeps well tonight.
……………………………………………..
Quite possibly the most disgusting sentiment that I have seen on this blog.
I really do wonder sometimes………
MWD
I know the argument about this but I think in future we need to play these games before the season starts if at all possible (which I accept will be even harder next year with 3 CL qualifiers).
It is a good experience IF these young guys go on to become our first team regulars in future. If not then I don’t think it is that productive.
When the injury happened I just wanted the game done and I think that is what our players and manager wanted as well judging by the look on their faces.
Get well soon Dylan

Yeh, I’m afraid your head is up your eurse on this occasion, and your comment on PL sleeping ell tonight is pathetic……not your usual standard…

You have me confused.
With someone who gives a monkeys what you think.
Best wishes to young Dylan… hoping it’s only superficial damage.

Hope Dylan is ok that was a dull wan but could have happened in any game
The experience will do our boys good although like most on here Would prefer to play this type of game before our season starts

Fairly sure our lads will see the game in a positive way.

Pretty much good experience for first team regulars.

Mind you..Had we played Dundee Utd today, they would have been exhausted after their trip to Moscow…and a wee bit demoralised ?
And what’s the point of playing Murphy today….when we left Watt kicking his heels back home ? It would be typical if he gets injured in the U21 friendly against Belgium on Tuesday…and he would not have been called into the Scotland squad if he had travelled over to the US…
Hope Dylan is OK ….. Looked really bad
Great boxing bout just finished.
fleagle1888,
never knew the naps comp had started,
is it too late to join?

Text me to say that it is cheaper at the Olympic Village for a pint than it is in BB
Thought we looked bereft of ideas in the final third tonight.
MWD
I thought you meant the youth team guys who came on, sorry pal.
Point taken and it should stand those players in good stead (especially the defenders who I thought had good games today) provided we make that CL of course.
Weeron
Sorry mate.
I’m upset about Dylans injury in a friendly we really didn’t need, imo.

Here are the goals from tonight if anyone missed them
Real Madrid 2-0 Celtic
I’d still demolish the London Road school tomorrow.

International squads have first call on players
Are we that concerned about the destination of the SPL title this season? worried about Dundee Utd?
Celtic have the best team and the biggest squad in the SPL by a considerable distance
Invaluable experiences for any sportsman are when you play top players
Im away to watch Wallender theres some wallopers on here tonight

Snake…fair point. However, when we play the big boys in pre-season, it doesn’t help. We are looking for fitness at that point, not a hammering, which has happened.
Also, when we play these games in Oz, or USA or Canada, it is soul destroying for our fans over there/here to see our unfit players, blended with reserves, take a pumping.
This is the right time. We are fit enough to compete. We don’t need to go way down the bench, and as such can keep to (mostly) our first team.
I think this is the best of all the compromises. I believe it is the one that Neil prefers.
Real Madrid Info @RmadridInfo
Rmadrid Info hope @DMcGeouch (Celtic Player) to get well soon
We have improved in our defensive positioning and are more patient in holding shape.
We are still more of a reactive team so struggle with forward momentum.
When we have possession our players are static forcing ball carrier to only have sideways and backwards outlet.
If we want to go to a higher level we have to become more proactive in possession with players attacking more positive space
Hope young Dylan is OK.
damn refresh aint working on pc

This is pre-season for England and indeed RM. Did the SPL not bring our season forward last year? In addition, next year will be an earlier start as I believe we will be in CLQR2, assuming we win the league of course :-)

Point taken but then again I didn’t watch the Ajax match (which was embarrassing by all accounts).
It will be harder next year with the extra qualifier to play. The players will need to get back in training in the middle of June for those games.
Point is…Watt was only called into the Scotland squad yesterday …as a late replacement..
Right ?
Thought Kelvin Wilson played well tonight. We may need him over next 2 weeks given our lack of numbers at CB.
Theweegreenman ….. I thought we did very well when you consider the journey, the opponents, missing first team regulars, temperature etc…….thought McGeoch was MOTM, and I’m not just saying that because of his injury …… He gave Real no respect, and is a great prospect…..he needs regular games this season ……very exciting player
MWD – as you know, I was against this game in the States.
For me, our pre-season and start to the season is all about doing everything to maximise our chances of a long run in Europe, especially qualifying for the money-spinning CL group stages.
What’s the point of pocketing £1M if you potentially disrupt your chances of reaching the CL proper and the £10M to £15M that goes with it.
In addition, this young team obviously needs a mobile, powerful striker and an auld heid to lead the back line. PL needs to concentrate on those positions and if required, sell a player to fund those purchases. That’s more important than “glamour” friendlies.
Friendlies don’t raise our profile. Qualifying for the CL and beating some big clubs will greatly enhance our profile. That’s how we got the Nike sponsorship in the first place.
Phil – you apologised. Take it on the chin and move on.

Yes, we were bereft of ideas up front, but we were withouth Hooper, Samaras, Forrest and Stokes, so it’s maybe to be expected. I think we all know the answer to the problem though.
Sam Matterface, the commentator tonight. Or Sam Matteofix as we should call him as he pismronounced most Celtic players. Iza-guerro. McKeock. And he didn’t know Stokes wasn’t playing and Rogne was until about 40 minutes gone. Sign him up for Sportscene then.
Celtic can negotiate but they cannot decide. It is obviously an important concession to have obtained this from the SPL and me thinks this is why an Old Firm yearly match was mooted. To get the vote. If the negotiations fail then we cant afford to turn down that money.

Mo Farrah had the ribbon stolen from his gold medal. The culprit was a Sevco fan. Claimed he wanted the sash Mo Farrah wore.
I think it is dispicable the way Peter Lawell is constantly insulted and degraded on here. Now he is even getting the blame for breaking Dylan’s jaw !!
I don’t profess to know what he does for Celtic day to day, but I am very happy with where the club is right now. Better people than me, the major shareholder included, are clearly happy with him.
Would you rather have Ogilvie or Bain?
TTTT
Nail on head.
Get well soon Dylan!
