Win over HJK worth at least £6m to Celtic

1408

Celtic will receive £1.65m from the Uefa revenue distribution system for participating in the Champions League play-off round against Helsingborgs.  Add to that around £1m gate money and the guarantee of at least three Europa League games, with Uefa distribution money, you can calculate the value of Wednesday’s win over HJK Helsinki as no less than £6m (all figures are net of vat).  Quite a prize for one game.

Compare this to the projected income from newco The Rangers, who claimed to have sold 25,000 season tickets.  If all sales were at full adult prices (£258 in vat), net income would be £5.375m.

Should Celtic overcome Helsingborgs and reach the Champions League group stage, the club will return to a remarkably strong financial footing.

The MAdrid player had a clear sight of the ball and player.he chose the option of following through connectinging his shoulder with Dylans head.

If he was going for ball it would have been a clash of heads

    It was a cowardly challenge.

How many of these young players will be in the first team SQUAD in, say 5 years time? In your opinion of course.

    Seriously.

I agree! It was a shocking challenge……..which the referee, err, overlooked.

I agree, just a wee bit disappointed we didn’t have a go. Suppose Lenny was more interested in containment.

Young Dylan played well. Thought big Wilson had a good game as well. His speed was certainly an eye opener against the Real strikers.

I was pleased to see someone using Mohamed’s full name, till I realised the point you were making. Well, it’s a GREAT British name now, Alhamdillilah!! I’d be proud for it to be a great Scottish name; I hope you would be too.

Been one or Wilson’s biggest critics ,but have to admit,he done well tonight.

  13. In keeping with my blind faith and clapping whilst smiling broadly, can I just say that I am happy with the current Celtic FC squad.

I find it refreshing that we are playing youngsters instead of going into the ‘market’ to ‘strengthen the squad’.

Must be the only person on here that isn’t overly concerned about the lack of new signings.

The main priority for me was always to keep all our best footballers at the club,as i recognise that this wee Celtic team has a lot of quality in the ranks.

I hope that we don’t need to sell Ki.

IMO we will have to continue down the path of getting promising talent into the Celtic first team, giving them the best fitba education we can and hope we get some gems and good squad players

Spoke to a Scottish based football agent a few days ago, Celtic are having great difficulty even to get quality players to entertain thoughts of the SPL never mind having talks about coming to the SPL……….. IF we sign this transfer window it will be after players have exhausted all other major European countries leagues first, whether we like it or not the SPL is a backwater he also said Celtic will pay a premium to get experienced players to Scotland

To answer your question, it is notoriously difficult to predict how young players will progress, during tonights game it was mentioned even spending millions in the transfer market is no guarantee of success………… Kaka…………….?millions

Got some speed Kelvin and I think that’s why Neil wanted him I am always loathe to write players off before I have really seen them in the team properly..

The blame game does none of our players any good..

Met Big Paul Elliot a couple of times a Toff and no mistake, one of a kind..

  21. I thought we coped well with a nearly full strength RM team. We didn’t offer much in attack as was only to be expected given we started with big Murph up front. The defense looked solid enough in the 1st half and in the main we kept our shape. The only goal in that period of play was scored after an unfortunate deflection off of Tommy Rogne landed in the right sport for the Madrid forward. The 2nd period we seemed to tire and Madrid seemed to be able to bring on a seemingly never ending stream of top quality players. Madrids second goal too many of our players were caught out of position. My MOTM for Celtic was young Dylan McGeouch and i hope he recovers quickly from the injury. Also encouraged by Wilsons efforts in defense as well as Kayal and Joe Ledley in midfield, Izzy doesn’t look anything like the player of last season and we can only hope he finds his form again soon.

Did we learn anything – well IMO thats a big NO. Madrid are light years ahead of us – well we knew that already. Was the financial benefit worth the serious injury to young Dylan as well as Anto Stokes injury? It also looks like big Murph may have tweaked something also. We are down to the bare bone forward wise ?? Do we really need to play friendlies during a critical part of the season?

I just wish we could produce even ONE first team regular every season from our own set up.

It would somehow make it all worthwhile.

Unless we can guarantee CL football then we must look to our back yard, or we are sunk.

  24. Anyone who thinks that PL should not be criticised for us not having another striker in is imho nuts!

I agree game was great experience, young Dylans injury aside , and for our fans in USA to see them live

But we have cut £100k off our wage bill and taken in over £2 m in this summer yet we keep being told we cant afford a new player till we either qualify for CL or sell. Bollocks

We have sold at least 44,000 season tickets we had 53k at Helsinski game and sold TV rights to 2 TV stations and are now guaranteed another 4 home games at home Conservatively that alone is worth £7m So why cant we buy a striker ?

Have we produced 4 in the last four years?
