Win over HJK worth at least £6m to Celtic

1408

Celtic will receive £1.65m from the Uefa revenue distribution system for participating in the Champions League play-off round against Helsingborgs.  Add to that around £1m gate money and the guarantee of at least three Europa League games, with Uefa distribution money, you can calculate the value of Wednesday’s win over HJK Helsinki as no less than £6m (all figures are net of vat).  Quite a prize for one game.

Compare this to the projected income from newco The Rangers, who claimed to have sold 25,000 season tickets.  If all sales were at full adult prices (£258 in vat), net income would be £5.375m.

Should Celtic overcome Helsingborgs and reach the Champions League group stage, the club will return to a remarkably strong financial footing.

I was going to bed but…….

I agree we have a promising young team.

What we don’t have is serious money to strengthen that team.

My concern is that we have not brought through to first team level anyone from the academy/19’s/reserves in any great numbers in recent years.

Mcgeady, Forrest and err,…………..not Twarzic, Watt, McGeoch et al.

We have been here just about every year with promising youngsters, but they do not materialise in the numbers I think we should be seeing.

It’s not my fault, but i sure as hell think i am allowed to express my opinion on what has been abject failure on the part of those people who are paid huge salaries to provide first team players from the academy and such like.

  4. Yes I was also impressed with big Kelvin tonight against a truly class side. But unfortunately one good game for some players is often the exception and not the rule: Glen, big Dan – remember them?!

What I would give for a Paul Elliott type right now: ok when he first joined he was p#sh and was booked almost every 2nd game; but players’ player of the year

Gordon64 @22.31- for the Sydney Olympics every living Australian medallist was invited as a guest of honour to the Games, apart from Peter Norman. I think that his son has got a film out just now about the Carlos/Smith protests, and Norman’s role in them.

That kid who replaced the injured Glenda against Rennes at CP(and then went on to play a stormer) got a wee run out when Rogne went off injured earlier.

Peter Norman still holds the Australian record for the 200m

yet he was not allowed to compete in the 72 Olympics.

  17. If big Rogne is suspect, I would give Lustig and Wilson a run as centre of defence. I thought Lustig looked good as centre half and I would like to give Kelvin a wee run based on tonight’s performance.

At least give them a shot against Ross County surely?….

I had a look at the blog, but I don’t see what they were on about.

Is it something to do with the Nimmo Smith report?
