Win over HJK worth at least £6m to Celtic

1408

Celtic will receive £1.65m from the Uefa revenue distribution system for participating in the Champions League play-off round against Helsingborgs.  Add to that around £1m gate money and the guarantee of at least three Europa League games, with Uefa distribution money, you can calculate the value of Wednesday’s win over HJK Helsinki as no less than £6m (all figures are net of vat).  Quite a prize for one game.

Compare this to the projected income from newco The Rangers, who claimed to have sold 25,000 season tickets.  If all sales were at full adult prices (£258 in vat), net income would be £5.375m.

Should Celtic overcome Helsingborgs and reach the Champions League group stage, the club will return to a remarkably strong financial footing.

I think the fact that the dead club had international players they didn’t pay for whilst they avoided/evaded tax was more of a hinderance to us.

Since you are used to dealing with £300m deals, as opposed to P Lawell who only deals in the £5-7m deals, why don’t you apply for his position, as you are the obvious expert to replace him. AYE RIGHT. HH

He cant back up anything he says against Celtic’s accounts. It’s there in black and white. Income versus expenditure. It’s not rocket science but it’s a road too far for some. Sydney Tim bases his subjecture on the groundless suspicion.

As much as I try to respect his opinion, the tired old mantra that all Celtic directors are in it for themselves, without a care in the world for Celtic’s well being, wears thin after a while and I’m a newbie.

You’d have thought. Was once involved in a conversation with Brian Quinn when he was Chairman about European competition. You’d better believe he wanted CL participation each year.

  11. We were not quoted £6M for Rhodes….

Various figures have been bandied about but I believe it was an initial outlay of £2M,with add-ons which may reach £4M,depending on his success…

But we can sit back and watch Champions League qualification snatched from us again….with the loss of potential £20M it would earn us….

And be in a weaker position when we face an extra qualifying round in the CL

Salute the film you mentioned earlier

SALUTE THE MOVIE – a MATT NORMAN filmIt gives me great pleasure to introduce to you a film that gives for the first time in History the truth about what really happened in Mexico City 1968, during the Olympic Games. This film is not just about the Olympic race but more about the Human Race. Civil and Human Rights injustices were at it’s worst in the 60′s but one year in particular there was more happening than ever before. The Vietnam war, Assination of Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr, Mexico City Students slaughtered in the streets for their part in protests and then a proposed boycott of the 68 Olympics by black nations. If there was a symbol of that decade it would have to be the symbol of strength, unity and stance. It was the “Black Power Salute” that populated the World more than any other story.

What makes this story so important today is that most people forget the sacrifice made by the Australian Silver medalist Peter Norman… “The White Guy”. He wasn’t just a bystander of what Tommie Smith and John Carlos did but an equal participant. It has long been a mystery that Peter Norman actually went along with the stand Tommie and John made and did so knowing that this would put his life at risk. Australia had it’s own racial issues with the “White Australia Policy” in full swing, Aboriginals unable to vote and the typical “us and them” mentality. Why then did a white Australian stand up for Black America in such a strong way. For the first time ever, SALUTE brings together Tommie Smith, John Carlos and the late Peter Norman to find out what really happened and not what people “think happened”.

Salute the movie started out as a research film for Peter Norman’s nephew Matt Norman. Matt was writing the screenplay for a big budget feature called “1968″ and wanted to get the story straight. Over a period of several years Matt documented every possible opportunity to really find the truth of what happened in Mexico City that October night. What Matt found wasn’t what he expected. The history books tell something different, the history writers forgot to actually ask those involved.

In 2006, just before SALUTE was heading over to the United States, tragically Peter Norman died of a heart attack. Imagine making a film solely dedicated to your uncle only to be told your uncle will never see the film.

Matt said in an interview “I just wanted people to know what Peter Norman really stood for, what sort of person I know him to be that others don’t, and what injustice was done to him while he was still alive”. Sadly that couldn’t happen. What did happen was that the name Peter Norman would be set in stone in Australia’s history like never before. A Hero of the Human Race, a man of great honour and integrity. A man with a broken heart. This story doesn’t end well but yet it still ends on a positive. It shows how three men from across the oceans built a friendship that lasted a lifetime. It shows what three courageous men did to sacrifice their rightful place as athletes for a greater cause. Most of all, it shows there were three men on the dais that day not just two. Two black and one white. It shows that History needs to rethink the power of this image once again.

“Hopefully this film will encourage everyone to ALWAYS STAND AGAINST INJUSTICE

Gordon Strachan said as much tonight during post game analysis. He said that Lawwell would not go down the Rangers route of speculating to accumulate even if it cost us titles and trophies. Strachan insisted Lawwell had Celtic on a sound financial footing in accordance with long term plans and not hun mentality- short sightedness, dire consequences.

I prefer to think Sydney Tim types as simpletons as opposed to having a wanting disregard for Celtic’s financial stability/long term viability.

  18. ST

The European defeats were due to a new manager and a young team learning the ropes. The fact that Rangers cheated cost us millions in revenue.

  19. Sydney Tim, can I suggest a name change tae Sevco Tim?

Had a magic wee day on Loch Lomond today wi a speedboat that I hired. Well, when I say speedboat it was more Gary Holt than Usain Bolt but did the job. Highly recommend it! When Scotland is in sunshine it is truly magic. Especially when you get off the boat and hear the footy scores.

Hope wee Dylan is OK. Thought he did not look out of place on that pitch tonight. As ET says, totally OT challenge on him. Don’t like the way Real play under the Speshul One.

Charlie mulgrew IMO was at faullt (and bad bounce/break acknowleded from Rogne) not tracking the scoring in, but, I think he was thinking LMer tonight not CHhead. Tonight proved for me his best position for him and Celtic as a team in CH, he is our best CH and produces as well as defends. Lets put him there, give him the armband and watch a star grow and grow.

    Decent performance.

Worrried about our injuries and our continued lack of a forward focal point(s).

Not a clue about out history never mind current players/squad, slagged SPL all night and did not have a clue who his audience that he was paid to comment for was tonight. not many spaniards booking ITV4 tonight, nor EPL punters I suspect(acknowleding Olympics)) tit.

  21. Sydney,

No quotes in there… please be specific. This is an extremely important issue which needs back up with dates, figures, and a whole lot more.

If you really think that Peter Lawell is a liar, then perhaps you should be backing this up with hard evidence. All I see is conjecture, bordering on slander.

    Def of:Internet Bampot

A person who uses the internet to unmask lies and deception that are portrayed as truth by the main stream media. And Celtic FC. They then post the findings, with checkable references, on blogs and the likes of Twitter to bring attention to underhand dealings and lies – that have been “glossed over” or ignored by the main stream media and Happy Clappers ( Internet Sycophants ) to the attention of everyone.

The term is widely used by journalists of the main stream media in Scotland to refer to those unearthing wrong doing in Scottish football, it is used by the main stream media as a form of insult but has been taken up by the so called “internet bampots” as a badge of honour reflecting their ability to dig out the hidden facts ans show the main stream media up for the corrupt, fawning poodles that they have become.

ie, Scottish Ex Pat Sydney blogger: SydneyTim is just an blogger writing internet bampot.

Rangers tax case is written by an internet bampot.

I write facts about Scottish footballs underhand dealings and expose corrupt CEO’s and the main stream media call me an internet bampot – I’m proud of my badge! :SydneyTim

The Term “Internet Bampot” is thought to be first coined after SydneyTim unearthed what is now famously called: The Willow Window after he Single handily exposed Celtic FC CEO Peter Lawell of just spending 50k in the January transfer window. He to this day refuses to reveal his source but still mentions “The Willow Window” from time to time in his posts.

Are you also now saying that Brian Quinn did not say that Neil Lennon was the clubs only candidate , are you calling him a liar?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2100433/Celtic-reduce-debts.html

  26. Peter, you could never spend enough money for some people.

Imagine you are a new up and coming team in say the third div struggling to bring in players like Craig Beattie for example. After a disappointing result fans would say saying spend more money so we can finish ahead of Elgin and Queens Park. So they find £2m from some high class businessman and invest in new players.

Now if that team were to get promotion eventually to the main league the fans will want the team bankrolled until they get the title. £5m or £10m whatever it takes.

Then they progress to Europe and spend say £10-£20m to get to the group stages. Now the internet fans want more. If they club spend another £20m we could get to the last 16 or last 8.

And this will satisfy them for a while but the internet fan that maybe doesn’t get to many matches and maybe doesn’t contribute by buying match tickets wants a Euro semi or even final. But unfortunately the club can’t afford to spend another £30m fulfilling everyones dream then it’s time to say get rid of that cheapskate chairman we want an Arab king with real big money to waste on prima donna footballers.

Hell why don’t we just spend £130m that we don’t have and see where that gets us.

Why is it ok for the CEO to lie to Celtic fans?

  30. SydneyTim

You haven’t been duped by a right-wing newspaper have you? They quote ‘every penny’ but only then quote him saying it would be ‘reinvested’, not specifically on transfer fees (take into account wages and bonuses and sundry other expenses that someone like you and I know are involved in a player signing). You could also take into account that it would be based on other factors as Europe, and that maybe the Russian side didn’t pay all up front, but you choose to take the word of a Daily Mail article. Oh well.

And the second article? Brian Quinn was a banker, but have you got him mixed up with our Chairman Ian Bankier?
