Words are easy, so are actions

After yesterday’s discussion on values, what we’re all about and where we’re going, today’s announcement by the Foundation that they will have a badge day at the Dundee United game on 11 May is something that requires us to step forward and do something about.

“Volunteers will be in place at all turnstile areas and supporters will be asked to make a donation of minimum £1 in return for a badge, which illustrates the new Celtic FC Foundation crest.  All monies raised on the day will support our work challenging homelessness in the Glasgow area.”

I’m going to volunteer.  You should too.  It will mean getting to the game a wee bit earlier but it will also mean you can look those values we all preach in the eye.  Words are easy but on this occasion, so are actions.  Let’s do it.

I’ll find out how you volunteer and report back soon.

I hoped by asking the question the answer given would be encouraging to a lot of folk who want to, but are unsure how to, get involved in making change happen, myself included.

From last blog. You may be absolutely right about the outcome of the Indyref but as I have said I am still undecided. I know both sides have made claims that they can’t substantiate but I have managed to ignore most of it thus far on TV and in the papers. Nearer the time I will become very focused and vote accordingly. What I dislike intensely, is the way that CQN has been hijacked to promote a political viewpoint by one poster in particular. Since billy bhoy 05 has come onto the blog in recent months the Indyref has started to dominate the blog when most of us recognise it as CQN and come on here to talk about Celtic or matters affecting Celtic fully recognising that from time to time we will get entertained and sidetracked for dhort periods by a myriad of debates on skwerr sausages, Stornoway black pudding and a variety of other topics as well as entertaining wedding videos like Jobo’s from this morning which add value to the blog.

However, billy bhoy 05 posted the following to me this morning,

“Also your claims that we turn voters against Independence is erroneous: according to the feedback we get.

Off oot…Have a nice day and you and cohorts try not to be so aggressive and bullying in a concerted manner.

Which has been noted by many”

He is actually pointing out that he and others ‘get feedback’ presumably on their progress in invading blogs and promoting their pro Independence views. I think he is part of an orchestrated campaign. I don’t want any part of his approach. I don’t welcome politicians into my house who knock my door and canvass and I don’t want to be hectored when I come onto CQN to read about Celtic related matters as I have been doing for the last 8 years or so. Others have also made political points about the Indyref on here. How come they manage to do it in an inoffensive way without trying to browbeat other posters for the stance they hold.

Yup the enormity of reality always having final say can make acceptance that a new reality has dawned very difficult to comprehend.

Reality turned up at the weekend in Raith Rovers jerseys. It might hammer it’s presence home in tangerine orange this weekend.

Two things have suspended reality over Ibrox way.

Denial, manifesting itself in good ST sales in season 1, less in season 2. Denial and defiance that reality has turned up.

Football success. Guaranteed by overspending but no longer guaranteed in a higher league.

The latter more than any other factor, including an SFA clear out will bring reality to their breakfast table.

On crowd size I have still to listen to the David Low podcast on tsfm but I understand he says the days of 55k ST sales was an aberration.

Just like the high first season number at Ibrox at half the previous years price is an aberration.

TRFC will hike up prices and attendances will drop but income will increase so the business will not care.

Focusing on crowd size without looking at the wider impact on income is a stick to beat a well run and successful club with.

A club by the way who take Resolution 12 very seriously and are not going to let the issues raised go away.

I have listened to the David Low podcast and what stood out for me was when he said, and I paraphrase . . .

I want the Rangers back in the top division, and let’s make no mistake here, so do the Celtic board of directors. We need their competition and their money.

I have always enjoyed your contributions to CQN and I never miss what you have to say, but with all due respect, you are letting yourself down with your constant villifying of one poster because he happens to have a different view to your own. Honestly mate, you have absolutely no right to demand that he stop posting on his chosen theme.

The independence vote will be the most momentous occasion in Scottish political history, so of course it will dominate cyberspace wherever people share opinions. It is not for you to call a halt to the debate, and you do yourself no favours by so doing. If you are bored with it, scroll on by and leave it to others.

That you pursue BB05 so diligently suggests that he is doing an excellent job, and you don’t like it and want to silence him.

As I have said. You are one of my favourite posters on CQN and I respect you greatly. Either debate the issue or leave it be. Don’t tell the guy to withdraw.

    ……………………………………………………………………..

I don’t want him to withdraw but I object to his approach. I don’t think he is on here because he is a Celtic supporter. I think he is on here because he is acting in concert with others to promote the Yes vote. I’m not interested in debating the issues with him or anyone else for that matter. In fact, I’m very rapidly reaching the conclusion that I should withdraw from the blog until after 18 September. One thing is for sure, i doubt we’ll hear from him when the Referendum is over whichever way the vote goes.

  14. justafan –

You are not in a minority of one.

    I found it extremely cringeworthy.

I feel he kinda stole the show from the bride and groom and to be honest, if I had been the groom, I would have been less than pleased.

It was their day, not his.

If he had cleared it with the bride and groom first, then fair enough, but I suspect he didn’t.

Just call me Mr Grumpy :-)

  15. I haven’t had a vote in scotland since 1997, so the indy thing means little to me personally, but my kids and grands kids are in scotland, and they will be affected one way or another.

But one thing I do know about politics and politicians, the more they try and browbeat you into voting their way, the more you are inclined to do the exact opposite.

    Take note both sides >}

    HH

  16. Auldheid if I am reading you right then what celtic are saying is that they don’t mind dwindling attendances??

  17. Post 323 in a long running series of advice to the, let’s be precise in terminology, NAT dominated campaign for a Yes vote.

See when you keep stating the message:-

” I can’t understand why Celtic fans or supporters of Irish Independence, will vote Unionist (sic)”

What I hear is ” You’re weird- Vote Yes”

It is hardly the most compelling argument I have ever heard and is certainly, not persuasive. In fact, I fear it may have hardened my view even further. I do not care to live in a land ruled by McGlashans who don’t understand me.

Thankfully, there are still a few good Yes voters on the blog who can understand the complexity of the situation. That minority give me a bit of hope.

Nonetheless, I see remarkable echoes of 1979 in the whole discourse.

    The same cries of :-

“we are not being given the facts”

“the experts are giving conflicting views on the same issues”

‘Both sides calling the other’s campaign for all the negative values of the day”

    The same events too:-

Heavyweight “outsider” politicians failing spectacularly to capture the mood.

Scottish based politicians being remarkably inept in managing a debate (e.g. Sturgeon vs Lamont)

And a remarkable durability in the voting intentions and bookies odds over the duration of both campaigns, despite the claims of either side about momentum shifts.

Mind you, the 79 vote may have been a lot different if the World Cup of 78 had not knocked flat a lot of national sentiment.

Now, it’s back to football posting for me.

  20. In the close season after stopping the 10 I had the opportunity to speak to David Low at the Columba Club in Coatbridge.

He made it clear that Rangers could not continue to spend money as they were without facing horrible consequences. He said this primarily in response to questions about Fergus’s apparent parsimony.

He did not predict that they would actually go bust but he did make clear Rangers had no viable business model and if Celtic held its nerve there could only be one winner unless RFC changed direction. He was confident they would not.

I recall that meeting having read GCTs quote from DLs podcast and to highlight the worth of his comments. From a purely business perspective he must be correct in assessing the earnings benefit of a return of the current version of Rangers to the top flight. Sponsors, media etc WILL pay up.

The question is what will our response be? How many fans would actually protest about their ‘return’? Would our ST sales increase?

Would it be much of a surprise if STs went up?

    Just asking!

I can categorically assure you that BILLYBHOY 05 is indeed a Celtic supporter.

Though I have yet to meet him,he drinks with my uncle, and on occasion with my Dad.

He may be politically unsound-!-but his Celtic credentials aren’t.

Oh,btw,MICKTT can vouch for him too.

  23. Without going into the dynamics, make-up,

or to, forensically recite Resolution 12….

speaking purely as a lapsed Celtic fan since

the departure of Martin O’Neill….I can only, as

I did at the start, congratulate all Resolutioners

for their efforts in the pursuit of justice.

But, there has been this big doubt about all of

this since, a back seat was taken ? I may be wrong

but, anything that this Celtic ‘bored’ get their teeth into

    makes me feel rather queesy.

My thoughts on the gist of events since the ‘boreds’

involvement is that – the resolutioners have been headed

    off at the pass !

My feeling – despite all the folk being sworn to secrecy – is

that the ‘bored’ have made it clear that, to go ahead with this

will make UEFA spring a knee-jerk reaction and, act against

the SFA by banning the national team from the Euros and WCF’s

but, more importantly….probably ban Scottish teams from European

competition, resulting in Celtic in particular….being done over ‘twice’ ?

So, on conclusion…the Celtic ‘bored’ who sent a letter of complaint to the

BBC Scotland Sports dept back in 2010, during the

    MIB season….signed by – a source ?….

know more that they have been ‘pressured’)lol) to reveal. imho

I can’t shake the feeling that the ‘bored’ have known about all the money the

club or, being more specific…Celtic supporters / shareholders have been done

out of by being silent and, letting the huns get CL money to survive. imho

The ‘only’ way to deal with all of this cheating / corruption is by, putting

a financial gun to the ‘boreds’ heads and telling them to, get into the ring

and fight or, there will be no more money from the subserviant sheep.

Having said all of that…apathy will be the winner. imho

Hail Hail – Off oot – bye.

  24. justafan –

I have asked that very question on here at least 3 times and still await an answer.

If Sevco win the Championship next season they will be promoted to the Premiership. I have read many a poster on CQN promise that if they do make it to the top flight, they will give up on football and Celtic.

My question is, when Sevco were banished to the third division, I don’t recall any rule stipulating that they could not win promotion all the way to the top flight.

So at which point did these so-called Celtic supporters decide they would give up on Celtic if Sevco were to reach the Premiership?

Again I ask . . . what are you all feart of?

  25. Snake Plissken on

I would be amazed if there were not people on this and other sites trying to get people to vote one way or another.

Some are doing it because they care and I would hazard a guess that others are doing it because they are paid to.

The problem is knowing who is who on the internet.

If you’re wondering I am a Scottish nationalist in the sense that I want an Independent Scotland running its own affairs. I don’t live in Scotland at present but will return if we vote YES. If a No is returned I’m getting Slovak citizenship as I am now eligible.

I want dearly to return to Scotland one day in the near future but I don’t want to be a part of Britain and I see no real future for Scotland, the Scottish people and my own family if we vote no.

You must make your own mind up but if you vote no make sure you don’t regret it because I think all the intelligent people who vote no will regret it by the end of this decade.

I knew about that reference from a discussion with someone who had heard it.

It was that which prompted me to post as I did. I think Low and Celtic, if they still share Low ‘ s view are wrong.

I want to hear the podcast before I post on TSFM but from what I have heard he thinks only Celtic and Rangers are interdependent and dismisses the contributions of or indeed dependence on other clubs.

Because football is interdependent I can understand Celtic not wanting TRFC to disappear from the face of the earth but unless the game is fixed, the swift return to the top tier is not a given on the evidence of the weekend.

So we better have a plan B that depends on nothing but our own endeavours.

I am beginning to suspect that with the relegation of Hearts and maybe Hibs, plan B is we get relegated in 2015/16 to play in a competitive league :)
